When a person old enough to be responsible for a crime? This question needs to be
investigated because the current law is not good enough
The law at present protects children aged between ten years and four years from being
punished for committing crimes. It is believed that children under fourteen years are too young to
realize the seriousness of their crimes. Mr. Stephen Scarlett, head of the NSW Children’s Court,
describes how clever young offenders use this defense, saying that they are too young to understand
that they have broken the law. Mr. Scarlett, an expert on this subject, states that the age should be
dropped from fourteen to twelve years. I agree with this.
Teenagers these days are far more sophisticated than those in the past. The law should
recognize this. In a recent survey some people suggested that the age for being responsible for a
crime should be dropped to eight years old. This, I feel, is too young. Fourteen, however, is too old.
Is there anyone who believes that a fourteen-year-old does not know that it is against the law to steal
or vandalize property? By the age of twelve, children are aware of what is legal and what is not.
Public pressure creates change. It is now up to the public to put pressure on the government
to change the age at which a person may be held responsible for a crime from fourteen years to
twelve years. Out of date laws have no place in a modern society, especially one that needs people
to be responsible for their actions.

25. What does the text above talk about?

A. When a person is old enough to be responsible for a crime
B. When a person is being punished for committing crimes
C. When children are too young to be responsible for a crime
D. When a person is too old to be responsible for a crime
E. When do teenagers realize the seriousness of their crimes

D. The writer Debate with Mr. Scarlett
E. The writer Agreement with the opinion of Mr. Scarlett

wealthy family and never had to work. He studied medicine and theology. In 1831 he graduated from
University of Cambridge with a degree of theology.
He began a career as a scientist quite by chance. On December 27,1831, 22 years old Charles Darwin
joined the crew of the HMS Beagle as a naturalist. The five years expedition collected hydrographic,
geologic, and meteorologic data from South America and many other regions around the world.
Darwin's own observation on this voyage led to his theory of natural selection.
Charles Darwin was greatly influenced by the geologist Adam Sedgwick and naturalist John Henslow
in his development of the theory of natural selection, which was to become the foundation concept
supporting the theory of evolution. Darwin's theory holds that environmental effects lead to varying
degrees of reproductive success in individuals and groups of organisms. Natural selection tends to
promote adaptation in organisms when necessary for survival. This revolutionary theory was

Tablets vs Books
Fast development of modern technologies such as computer, cell phone and tablets bring many
advantages in human life. Almost every sector such as work, entertainment, and education are now
depending on technology. In educational sector, for example, there is a policy to use tablets to replace
textbooks. This policy makes a major debate among society. Some people agree that tablets will make
teaching-learning process better but some other thinks not.
Among those who agree, tablets bring some benefits. First, tablets help students learn more material
faster. Technology-based instruction can reduce the time students take to reach a learning objective by 30-
80%, according to the US Department of Education and studies by the National Training and Simulation
Association. Second, tablets can hold hundreds of textbooks on one device, plus homework, quizzes, and
other files, eliminating the need for physical storage of books and classroom materials. The average tablet
contains anywhere from 8 to 64 gigabytes (GB) of storage space. Third, tablets contain many technological
features that cannot be found in print textbooks. Tablets give users the ability to highlight and edit text and
write notes without ruining a textbook for the next user. Tablets have a search function, a backlighting option
to read in low light, and a built-in dictionary. Interactive diagrams, games and videos increase student
creativity, motivation, attentiveness, and engagement with classroom activities.
On the other hand, people who disagree with the use of tablets point out several reasons. First,
handheld technological devices including tablets are associated with a range of health problems. Handhelds
contribute to Computer Vision Syndrome, which causes eyestrain, headaches, blurred vision, and dry eyes,
according to the American Optometric Association. Second, using tablets is more expensive than using print
textbooks. School will require purchasing hardware (the tablet) and software (the textbooks), building new
wi-fi infrastructure, and training teachers and administrators how to use the technology. A broken tablet also
requires an experienced technician to fix, which can be costly and time-consuming.
Plus, tablets constantly need charging, increasing electricity demands on schools and the need for new
electrical outlets.
Third, tablets have too many distractions for classroom use. Students may pay attention to apps, email,
games, and websites instead of their teachers. Tablets also enable students to cheat on schoolwork. Students
can easily avoid reading and analyzing texts on their own because they can quickly look up passages in an e-
textbook and search for answers on the internet.
In conclusion, tablets indeed bring so many advantages in education especially in teaching learning
process. However, we must see the other factors whether tablets are suitable to be used in educational
institution now or later. We cannot deny that tablets are so expensive with its entire means of support. It is
not fair if we allocate the entire budget to tablets while there are so many schools which need more important
facilities such as school buildings, classrooms, libraries, clean toilets, and so forth.
31. The following are some benefit of using Tablet, EXCEPT………
A. tablets help students learn more material faster
B. tablets can hold hundreds of textbooks on one device, plus homework, quizzes, and other files
C. tablets contain many technological features that cannot be found in print textbooks
D. Tablets give users the ability to highlight and edit text and write notes without ruining a
textbook for the next user
E. Tablet make videos increase student creativity, motivation andplay game while classroom
activities

32. What does the writer infer about using tablet in teaching and learning process?
A. Using Tablet is more expensive than book
B. Tablet has many distractions for classroom use
C. Tablet contain many technological features than book
D. Tablet actually bring many advantages in teaching and learning process
E. Tablet make students cheat on schoolwork

Wonder Woman Movie Review

Story: Diana, princess of the Amazons, is raised on a sheltered island paradise and trained to be an
unconquerable warrior. When an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict
raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat as she discovers
her full powers as ‘Wonder Woman’.

Review: After decades of being lost in Hollywood developmental hell with a number of false starts and a
host of A-list actresses slated to play the coveted role, this is the first bona fide, massive budget, female-
led superhero movie to hit the big screen. By this definition itself, ‘Wonder Woman’ already had colossal
expectations to meet, but with the added pressure of lifting the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) out of the
murk of its dreary sub-par films, Gal Gadot had a lot of weight to carry on her shoulders. Fortunately, her
first appearance in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ was well received, especially as Diana Prince
a.k.a. Wonder Woman managed to stand her ground alongside two comic book behemoths. She
continues to ride the wave in her own solo film, adding some much-needed confidence to the DCEU but
more importantly doing justice (pun obviously intended) to the iconic female superhero.
This is largely credited to director Patty Jenkins whose familiarity with constructing strong female
characters, as seen in the Oscar-winning ‘Monster’, pays off here. Jenkins’ vision for this film is a blend of
an uplifting and humorous outlook that has been sorely lacking in the DCEU till this point, infused with a
strong sense of morale. Most importantly, it takes a distinctive stance on feminism – one that doesn’t
resort to male bashing to get its point across, as highlighted in the relationship shared by Diana Prince
and Steve Trevor, played by the charismatic Chris Pine. Diana is far from the damsel in distress in need of
a knight in shining armour to rescue her, and Trevor is well aware of that. As a result, their connection is
built out of mutual respect that plays very well on screen. Speaking of which, if there were any lingering
questions about Gadot’s ability to embody the Amazon warrior princess, this film certainly erases them
all beyond any shadow of a doubt. She is convincing as the naive yet steadfast fish-out-of-water, harking
back to Christopher Reeve in the very first Superman film.
But, the movie is hardly perfect – there are flaws in pacing and unevenly written secondary characters
that resort to some stereotyping. Weak and shallow villains – the plague of superhero films – also infect
‘Wonder Woman’, and become a particularly sore point in the third act. These issues tend to take you
out of the film’s experience and while they don’t negate the positives listed so far, lessen its potential to
reach new heights as a great comic book movie. That said – this is undoubtedly the strongest DCEU
outing till now, one that will add a new world of (female) fans to the franchise, and for all the right
reasons.
