Against: Cell phones should not be allowed in schools as they will cause

distraction for both students and teachers. Even the classes might get
disturbed if any student is found fiddling with their phone. The student will
be at a loss as they will not be able to keep up with the class.
Students might start browsing irrelevant, inappropriate websites and waste
their time which can be utilised for studies. Also, they will be negatively
influenced by the content of badly chosen sites which will hamper their
overall growth, mindset, and personality.

Cell phones can be used for cheating during tests as many cases have been
reported. Moreover, schools have their own telephones which students can
use if needed. Phone cameras can be used for malicious purposes like for
clicking inappropriate pictures or making videos that are not in a good
taste.

Allowing cell phones in schools will give rise to an unhealthy, unwanted

competition as students with expensive and latest model phones will
overwhelm those who have got low-cost or old model phones. Not only
would there be disparity within a single group but parents would be under
constant pressure to get new expensive phones for their children. It is for
the same reason that school students are assigned uniforms which they are
required to wear everyday to school so that all students look the same
without any prejudice.

Should the Cell Phones Be Allowed in Schools

No because...

No, because students will be distracted

Cell phones should not be allowed in schools because if the students get bored, they might use them
to play games or do other activities that distract their attention from learning.
In case of family emergency, the teachers have a cell phone and the parents could call them.
Yes because...
Sometimes teachers, parents or students are part of the problem. Parents with teacher cell numbers
can include fathers/mothers/students who want to have an affair with a teacher(or vice versa) thus
harass the teacher in question(or vice versa) with a multitude of text messages and after-hours phone
calls, obsessive paranoid parents who want teachers to hop at their command, and students who
think a teacher is their friend and should be updated on and invited to their every social venture.
Conversely, teachers may harass parents/students.

"Last month, WBOY reported on an incident at WFMS where a fight in the bathroom was recorded on
a cellphone and posted on Facebook. Everyone involved in the fight was tagged, including the boy
who was beaten up." -[[http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43104529/ns/local_news-

their counterparts. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvXqywwV7cw]] "Over a quarter (26%) of teen

and the sense of empowerment perpetrators of these crimes have; there is an understanding that
most of them are not caught, even after evidencing their crime and using videos and pictures to
spread more fear. "Many schools in London have banned mobile phones because of fears of bullying
and robbery. A number of violent attacks on schoolchildren have been filmed on mobile phones

Yes because...
It is not the knowledge/reporting of these crimes that needs to be drawn to a halt but their
perpetration. Kids will be raped, bullied and harassed with or without cell phones. At least with
cellphone evidence the police or ultimately the law can't shrug the incident off.

cases are dismissed and there are cases where rape victims are dubbed drunken/drugged seducers.

Happy slapping trend: Take away the camera phone = kill the fad
Many students, like biased media hubs are interested in shocking, horrifying and getting the attention
of a mass audience via cheap thrills. A camera phone is the perfect mechanism by which young
people aim to derive their 60 minutes of fame. The more shocking the video, the greater the
attention/ratings/Youtube-views, take the camera away and the opportunity for fame(main motivation
for this sort of erratic behavior) is also removed. [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_slapping]]
"Happy Slapping is known to have started in the South London London Borough of Lewisham,[3][4] in
a format known as "Slap Happy TV", where a happy-slapping video would be recorded, and then
watched by dozens of people like a TV show. The first newspaper article to use the phrase "happy
slapping" was "Bullies film fights by phone", published in The Times Educational Supplement on 21
January 2005, in which reporter Michael Shaw described teachers' accounts of the craze in London
schools.
The Phrase Finder describes the phenomenon thus:
Meaning:
Unprovoked attacks on individuals made in order to record the event, and especially the victim's
shock and surprise, on video phones.
Origin: Happy slapping ... began as a youth craze in the UK in late 2004. Children or passers by are
slapped or otherwise mugged by one or more of a gang while others record the event on video and
then distribute it by phone or Internet.
Initially the attacks were, as the phrase would have us believe, fairly minor pranks ... As the craze
spread the attacks became more vicious – often serious assaults known in legal circles as grievous
bodily harm."
Should the Cell Phones Be Allowed in Schools
No because...

No, the schools have phones, the students can use those.
The students at school bring their phones in case of an "emergency". But realistically the only serious
emergencies that are happening at school are forgetting your gym clothes or lunch one day. In my school
perticularly, an elementary school, you shouldn't need a cellphone, there is a phone in every classroom, as long
as you ask the teacher, they'll probably let you use it, but with a personal cell phone, students can always get
distracted and be tempted to use them during class.

no cellphones should not be allowed in school

i think cellphones are a bad idea to bring to school because there is a probability that you phone might get lost,
and your going to tell your parents that you lost the phone. They would get really mad at you. The other bad
thing about bringing your cellphone to school is that someone might steal it and not give it back to you. They
also might call random people and talk to them. If your cell phone has an annoying ring tone it might ring in
class and the teacher might take it and not give it back to you. There are so many things that can go wrong so i
think that cellphones should not be allowed in school. If there is an emergency then you can use the office
phone or use your friends.KA

No because...

they can be used to cheat on tests

with all the new smartphones that have internet access, it is easy enough to simply google an
answer.
Even non smart phones can be used to text answers.

I agree because it will be too distracting, there will be cheating, talking loud on the phone, playing games and NOT
paying attention. Also you will be taking pictures and you will hear it say cheese and you will see the flash. Also you will
be texting and not participating in class activities. Also if you are listening to music you will be dancing singing and you
will hear it. So I would not have cell phones in school. So I say NO!

Students need to get their act together in class and pay full attention to the teacher that is there. Wasting their time by
using their phones distracts both the teachers and other students. These students are there for a reason and allowing
phones in school would take away from their education.

I would say yes but the only time they will be able to use their phone will be during lunch after school and free play. For
an emergency they can call their parents or guardians but the cell phones will have to be in their lockers and cell phones
did to be shut down. The teachers will have permission to go throw their lockers and see if their cell phones are off. If
there not off they will be taken away and their parents or guardians will have to come and pick them up and pay $15.00
dollars. If they get taken away the second time their parents or guardians will paying $15.00 dollars and spend one day in
school suspension for one day.

Cell phones should not be allowed in classrooms because they will cause distractions. Instead of listening to

the teacher, students would be on their phones and playing games or they would be on social media.

Students would be to distracted with their phones to do the work or to take notes for what ever class they

are in. With phones out of classrooms we could limit the distraction in the classrooms.

Con

Cell phones should be allowed on school campuses and classrooms as they can serve as a reliable source for

an emergency at the moment. A cellphone can also be a reliable source for information or research on a

topic or school assignment.

Report this Argument

Pro

Students can use the cellphones to cheat their way through the course they are taking. When students are

taking test they can google answers or text their friends for the answers. They can also use them to answer

a question instead of thinking like they are suppose to. Students can get in real trouble if they are caught

cheating. Some students can be expelled or suspended from school and that can hurt the students in the

long run.
Report this Argument

Con

When there is a research paper being worked on, a student can use his cellphone to look up research on the

topic and find sources to cite. Another way cellphones are useful and helpful in classrooms is that if there

were to be an emergency in the class like someone breaking in , someone getting hurt, or even the teacher

dying a student could use his or her cellphone to call for help.
Report this Argument
Pro

With students using their cell phones in class when there is an emergency on campus they could get hurt. If

students are not careful, the intruder can hear their cell phones if the volume is not turn down. With

research projects, how would you know if they are actually researching the topic or if they are on their social

media sites. Students can lie about what they do on their phones and they can make it look like they are

using their phones for education processes.

Report this Argument

Con

Yes there is a possibility of the phone's being dangerous during an emergency as they could sound off

during a break in but a solution for that is to have a rule in the class stating that when one enters

the classroom their cellphones need to be turned to silent. With the research projects , yes students might

goof off and go on their social media pages rather than researching for their assignment, but in the end

they'd be the ones hurting their grade. It's on them to do the work or goof off.

10 Reasons Why Cell Phones Shouldn’t Be Allowed In School

 Journalism
- December 5, 2018
1. Destraction

 While Cell phones are in your hands all day, notifications will constantly go off. You’re forced to
looked without even realizing. Students get distracted all throughout the day without even noticing
they are. All of the information from their teachers go in one ear out of the other, and forget
everything they were taught. Many time students will have games on their phones and think about
passing a level and try and try thinking they will get it done and then work, but without even
noticing by the time they finish a level the class is about to be done and you have no work done.

2. Grades Falling

 When kids are on their phones for most of their days, they don’t do work and grades drop
dramatically. When you look at your phone it usually takes about 5 minutes to focus again on
whatever they were doing before. Information is not being stored in your brain so work can’t be
done.

3. Can cause students to get upset

 With the rate of Cyberbullying going up many kids will get picked on over social media and
continue looking at different things throughout the day and get upset and not be able to concentrate
on their work. Also, say you and a friend or a boyfriend/Girlfriend get in an argument, you’re going
to be more worried about that than your school work.

4. Homework

 If kids are constantly on their phones at school, then what makes you think they’re not going to do
the same thing at home. If they’re distracted throughout the day and not doing work in school,
homework is less likely to get done at home. Grades constantly drop because of students doing
school work, but even more because of homework. If Cell phones weren’t allowed in school,
students may at least be able to get their work done in school and could reduce homework.

5. Escape route

 Many times when a student doesn’t get something or just doesn’t want to do it, they’ll go to
their phone instead of asking for help or explanation. By this point students don’t even care about
their work. So they just forget about it.

6. Disrespect

 When a teacher is talking and teaching a lesson to students, and many are on there phones while few
are trying to learn, these kids on the phone are distracting the other. Even without sound being on, if
you’re playing a game or watching a video on silent, most of the time someone else will catch a
glimpse and not be able to stop looking back. This is disrespecting your teacher who is taking time
out of their day to teach you and help you while you’re on your phone.

7. Preparing for life

 Nowadays you need to go to college and have an education to “succeed” in life. With the cost of
college and the requirements to get into a college it it so hard to get a scholarship to get into it. You
need good grades and to be there, and if students are on their phones throughout the school day,
they’re losing their education. Also if students are also on their phones all night their not getting
enough sleep and showing up late to school, then just going right back on your phone right when
they get to school. Cell phones are ruining students education, which is the only thing to really be
successful in life right now.

8. Cheating

 As said before, kids are getting distracted and not paying attention, so when it comes to taking a test
they have no idea what the answers are so many students will cheat and not even learn anything. If a
student is cheating they’re not learning anything and once again getting into a college becomes even
harder.

9. Cyber bullying

 With the amount of social media and the amount of kids using these apps, there is many people who
are immature and use it just to bully people. So if kids are getting picked on over social media, their
phone is constantly going off with people being rude to them, which is taking away their learning
time. Same with the people on the other side. Some students will be so immature where instead of
worrying about their school work their taking their time to go onto social media and make posts or
text another student just to bully them because of how someone is. This is probably one of the worst
distraction for a kid, it can cause depression, where you won’t even want to get out of bed to go to
school. From experience, getting bullied through social media definitely takes a tole on a student, it
is always there for the world to see, and then everyone talks. It can cause you to not even care about
your life anymore, which is just ruining a students education because of someone else’s immaturity.

10. Social life

 I believe a students social life is very important. It teaches kids to interact with people for when they
have a job later in life. Students being locked into their phones all day long, they don’t even realize
there is a real world out there. Social interaction isn’t just texting, it’s going out and verbally talking
to someone. Many times, without a real social life it can also cause depression, it can make
someone think they have no friends and no one likes them, but in reality it’s because they’re always
on their phones instead of going out and actually trying to connect with someone.
