ABSTRACT

The research is all about the effects of part time job in academic performances of an ICT
student in kasiglahan Village Senior High School in Kasiglahan village San Jose Rodriguez
Rizal, a lot of ideas and hypothesis goes on mind of the researcher. Part time Job is a kind of
work in which the worker should work for a short period of time. These kind of study many
challenges or problems that may experience including the seeking for a respondents that will
take serious of it. Past studies and Literatures said that most people that take part time job are
the one who have not time to work on a full time job maybe they are currently studying or they
have commitment on other activities sometimes the main reason of taking a part time is to gain
experiences that they can use someday and be able to be in advance especially students.
Another is to supply their needs. In this case they will also develop their time management.
Different strategies will be used by the researchers and they have their almost same results that
part time job does not always give a negative result but it gives positive result like it enhance
your skills to make advance, time management and it helps to meet their needs and these was
also our hypothesis from the result of these research. Focus on research, conducting of the
research at the same school especially ICT students during free hours Interviewing serious
students using Purposive/Judgmental Sampling as the research is fitted on Qualitative research.
Questionnaires that is related to the study and verified by teacher and the use of recording
application on mobile to collect data after that the analyzation and using of a coding style to
easily get the important word or ideas that can be put on our conclusion.

Keywords:

Hypothesis - A supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as

a starting point for further investigation.

CHAPTER 1

Introduction

Background of the Study

A part-time job simply involves working fewer hours in a week than a full-time job. Often,
part-time jobs involve working in shifts. These shifts are usually rotational with other part-time
workers, Woodhouse A. (2017)

Other people choose to work part-time jobs. The most common reasons
includes: Caring for children, Health or medical limitations, In-school or training, Other family or
personal obligations , In retirement, Team Local wise (2017)

Some of the issues raised in the literature concern matters such as the number of hours
worked, whether or not the students' jobs pertain to their majors, and the students' workloads.
As more students are employed, they face having to balance their academic requirements,
extracurricular activities, and employment responsibilities to maintain their lifestyles (Furr &
Elling, 2000).

Statement of the Problem

1. Why Students taking a Part Time Job?

2. What are the effects of taking a part time job in academic performance of ICT
students of KVSHS?

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of taking a part time job?
Significance of the study

The beneficiaries of this study are the students who are planning or having already a
part time job. They will know what are the consequences, advantages and disadvantages of
having a part time job. They will also know what are the things they can do about it, The
Teachers and the Parents of Students who is taking part time job because they will know how to
adjust if their student is taking a part time job, Last is the government, this study can help them
to implement projects and programs about part time job.

Scope and delimitation

This study covers ICT students of Kasiglahan Village Senior High School in Kasiglahan

Village San Jose Rodriguez, Rizal School year of 2018 up to 2019 who is taking part time job

and how it affects the academic performances to them its either bad or good. The potential

weakness of this study is how we can find student that is taking a part time job that will taking

serious of it.
CHAPTER 2

Review of the literature and studies

Related Literature

Less than 30 hours a week is considered to be part-time in most cases. There may be
others who don’t want, or can’t afford, the commitment a full-time job requires of their time. They
may be better suited to working multiple part-time jobs – to gain more experience benefits
you’re entitled to as a part-time employee are income support, You’re entitled to pension credit,
council tax support and housing benefit, You may be entitled to more benefits specific to your
company, Woodhouse (2017)

Assumed that a part-time job is fewer than 30 hours per week. majority of part-time jobs
are paid hourly. The most common reasons includes: Caring for children, Health or medical
limitations, In-school or training, Other family or personal obligations , In retirement, Team
Localwise (2017)

Taking on a part-time job while pursuing a degree is hard work, but the benefits are
typically greater than the amount of a paycheck. Students who work during their college careers
may develop better time-management skills than their counterparts because they have to apply
it to their daily lives. They earn money that can be used for fun or for tuition, while gaining
experience in the workplace that will be attractive to future employers after graduation, Cunha
(2018)
Related Studies

They randomly selected undergraduate students a number of 1,438 at the urban west

coast university they surveyed about their college employment experiences. They seen that the

results indicate that students employed in part‐time jobs congruent or in other say related to

each other with their career interests were more likely to be satisfied with their jobs. Implications

for practice and research are discussed, Kane S., et. Al, (1992)

They choose the most fitted respondents according to their. They use a questionnaire to

gather data and information. The content of their questionnaire is all about the impressions of

the benefits of par time working, their likes and dislikes in their part time employment

Students studying hospitality and tourism management were chosen due to the
vocational nature of their program and the part‐time opportunities available in the
hospitality industry. A questionnaire was developed to investigate the extent of part ‐time
employment amongst hospitality and tourism students. The questionnaire solicited
demographic information The questionnaire also explored students' impressions of the
benefits of part‐time working, their likes and dislikes in their part‐time employment and what
they felt might be done to develop the relationship between the parties invo lved in part‐time
work. Findings Evaluating responses from 150 students, the study found that almost two
thirds of this cohort were engaged in part‐time employment and had been with their current
employer for an average of 14 months. Focusing on aspects of gender and nationality the
study identified that females were more likely to have a part‐time job and students from
Eastern European countries worked significantly longer hours than their peers , Barron P,
Anastasiadou C. (2009)

They find that doing part‐time jobs exerts no effect on student academic performance
when it is treated as a homogeneous category. We find that incentives to work have most
effects on student academic performance, followed by whether the jobs provide opportunities for
students to develop skills and whether the jobs are related to their fields of study. We find that
doing part‐time jobs actually enriches students' school life and increases their social support
network as well, Wang H. (2010)
Conceptual Framework

Time
school and they can use it
Job after they graduated.

TIME MANAGEMENT

Because of taking a part time

job the time management of a
student will be develop and it
will help him for more hectic
schedule someday.

Research Hypothesis

According to some old and present Articles and Studies about taking a part time job of a
student. That we encountered taking a part time job especially of a student have no effects on
their academic performances instead it helps them a lot in terms of providing needs by earning
money through part time job it helps students to gain experience that they can use in school and
they will no longer be like newbie when they work for a full time job after they graduated and
another one is they will know how to managed time correctly.

METHODOLOGY

Research Design

Based on our topic, title or problem we will conduct the research in our school at
Kasiglahan Village Senior High School at kasiglahan Village San Jose Rodriguez Rizal. We will
search for respondents of our study when there is a vacant time like breaktime and after school.
The respondents will be the ICT Students of Kasiglahan Village Senior High School that have a
part time job. We will collect data by conducting interview with willing students.

The Sample

This kind of case is related to qualitative research. Qualitative research is a type of

research where the researcher collecting data by words in other say making an Interview from
their respondents. We will use a simple random sampling because there were only few students
in school especially in ICT Students who is having a part time job and this kind of sampling is
fitted on the situation.

Instrument

Directions: Answer questions honestly based on your thoughts and experiences.

1. What is your name?

2. What is your Section?
3. What kind of work do you have?
4. Is your workplace near to your house and school?
5. What are the factors that bring you to take a part time job?
6. What are the benefits of taking a part time job?
7. How taking part time job affects your academic performance?
8. If taking part time job affects your study what are your actions to resolve it?
9. After graduation, what are your plans?
10. In overall does taking a part time job gives you a positive result or it is negative?
Data Collection Procedure

We use a survey form to get data regarding our research these survey form compose of
questions that will allow our right respondents to answer it and we make sure that these
questions is related to our topic for it to give a good result to our study. These questions were
also inspected by our Teacher in Practical Research 1 Ms. Eloisa Iglesias. In collecting the
answer of our respondents in our questions we will use a recording application in our mobile
phones so we can easily remember these answers.

Plan For Data Analysis

For our research design is fitted on Qualitative research we will use it. Qualitative
research is more on interview or words unlike Quantitative research is more on statistics so we
use Qualitative research. We will use a Content analysis to categorized verbal data to classify
summarize and tabulate data after that encoding of data to using a table getting the important
words or ideas and using its initials as a mark of that particular word and because of that we will
easily identify the repeating word or word that have the same idea and we will easily identified
what does the study meant to say and write it down on a conclusion.
