A way to save Energy to your Outdoor Lighting

Outdoor lighting can serve many purposes. It can serve aesthetic purposes by making your home either
look warm and welcoming or regal and majestic, depending upon what type of lights you use and how
they’re set. It can also, of course, light the way for your family and visitors to safely navigate their way to
and from your house. And it can also serve as a deterrent to criminals, thereby safeguarding your family,
house and belongings.

But before you start buying lights, you might want to contemplate a few things.

It is smart to finish all your landscaping before you start installing energy saving light bulbs lights, so that
your lighting doesn't end up being hodgepodge. Also, if you have to do some digging to install any lights,
you will need to know where your water and sewer or septic lines are. If you need to run electrical lines
under a sidewalk or driveway, you will need to install a cable underneath them, which probably
necessitates hiring an electrician. You will probably also need an electrician for wiring an outdoor
receptacle or a switch to control the new lighting system.

You have a wide range of lights to select from, depending upon your needs.

Path lights are usually put along the sides of a walkway, path or driveway. They're probably the most
commonly used outdoor lights. You should place them low to the ground to spread the light down and
out so that people can see where they’re walking and not stray off the path. Avoid using too many, or
your driveway might end up looking like an airport.

Down lights are generally motion detector lights that are set high on the house or garage. They're
pointed downward and are oftentimes used for security purposes. Down lights are very bright and can
create glare, so if you want to use them to create natural low energy lighting, you may want to install
them in a tree or shield them to diffuse the light.

Uprights are set at ground level, aiming upward to draw attention to focal points in the landscape, such
as attractive trees, signs, or architectural features. They can also provide an extension of the interior
living spaces at night. These are oftentimes spot or flood lights or in-ground fixtures.

Backlight are used to enhance your landscape in artistic manner. For example, you can install a backlight
behind a plant in such a way as to cast a silhouette on a wall to draw attention to the plant. Backlight
create drama, but they need to be installed so the fixture is out of sight.

Specialty lights add accent to a space, particularly in the evening. Their aim is to create a particular
mood or atmosphere. Examples of specialty fairy lights include string lights in a gazebo, patio lights that
resemble patio torches or flickering flames, and lights used in underwater settings to feature a waterfall
or rock bank. It's also possible to create a mirrored effect on the surface of a water feature by casting
light on the area behind the reflecting surface of the water.

Deck lighting can not only create a dramatic effect but can also enhance your decks' safety. You can
showcase and spotlight any changes in elevations, drop-offs, or deck edges, while concealing the light
fixtures beneath railings, beneath benches, or on vertical posts.
