A SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE III

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to:


a. name plants; and
b. identify the parts of a plant.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


Topic: Naming Plants and Their Parts
References: Science 3 Teacher’s Guide pp. 83-85
Science 3 Learner’s Material pp. 82-84
Science 3 Curriculum Guuide

Materials: pictures of animals, pictures of different gardens, pictures of


different parts of the plant

III. PROCEDURE

A. Review
Show some pictures of anmils and let the pupils name them.

Ask: Are animals important to us? Why?

B. Motivation

Garden Show: Show pictures of different gardenss in school.

Ask the following questions:

 What do you see in the picture? (garden)


 What can we see in the garden? (plants, animals, and other things)
 What are some of the plants that grow in our school? (Answers
will depend on what plants are present in school.)
 What are some of the plants that grow in your home? (Answers
will vary.)

C. Presentation

Show a picture of a tomato plant.

Ask:

 What is the name of this plant?


 What are the different parts of the plant?

D. Lesson Proper

 Which part of the plant grows downward into the ground? (The root)

*The root is usually underground. There are other roots that can be seen
above the ground.

 What is the plant part where you see leaves and flowers grow from? Where
do you see it in a plant? (The stem. It is above the ground.)
*Stems of plants are extensions of the roots above the ground. They bear
the leaves and the flowers. Some plant stems are underground.

 What are the parts of the plant that grow from the stems? Will you describe
them? (The leaf. The leaves are flat and green.)

*Leaves of plants are grown from stems. They vary in size, shape, and
color.

 What is the plant part that develops into the tomato fruit? (The flower)

*Flowers are plant parts which develop into the fruits of the plant. Some
plants do not bear flowers. It is the most attractive part of the plant.

E. Application
Group the pupils into three. Each group will have their activity box. Each
activity box composes of a picture of a plant and its parts.

Direction: Label the parts of the plants. Paste them on the manila paper.

F. Generalization

Guide the pupils to make a generalization by asking the following:

 What are the different parts of the plants? (The root, stem, leaf, flower
and fruit.)
 Are there plants that are not easily observed? (Yes because they’re
either hidden or they are too small.)
 Do all plants bear fruits? (No, some plants might appear to have no
fruit or flower because the plant is too young or it is not yet the plant’s
floweing or fruiting season at the time the observation was made.
