ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I would like to express my special thanks of gratitude to my Physical Geography teacher

‘‘Mr. Deyo Carlos L. Dela Cruz’’ for their able guidance and support in completing my Field

Inquiry Project.

I would also like to extend my deepest gratitude to the Barangay Captain ‘‘Mr. Jayson

Lagman’’ and his brother Barangay Counselor ‘‘Mr. John Lagman’’ for providing me with all the

facility that was required.

I am over helmed in all humbleness and gratefulness to acknowledge my depth to those

who have helped me to put these ideas, well above the level of simplicity and into something

concrete. I would like to express my special thanks of gratitude to my teacher as well as our

Barangay Captain and his Barangay Counselor who gave me a golden opportunity to do this

wonderful project on the topic ‘‘field inquiry’’ which also help me in doing a lot of research and I

came to know so many new things that we can discover in just a few days and that is to love

and care in our environment. I am really thankful to them.

I would like to thank my parents who helped me a lot in gathering different information,

collecting data and guiding me from time to time in making this project better, despite of their

busy schedules they gave me different ideas in making project unique.

Thank you

INTRODUCTION

The knowledge of a person is never ending in a way of knowing something that

is small but if we go and pursue it most, it is bigger that we think it smallest. Loving, caring and

helping our environment are simple to say but it is really hard to do. But if you go to the real

situation of our environment, of course we will going to make a decision that everybody can

gain.

Being a responsible a continuum and lifelong professional development. We should

know our importance and always be knowledgeable in terms of discussing proper waste

management. Because when we care love and help our environment we are the luckiest and

responsible individual that can gain with our own responsibilities.

This course is designed to assist prospects individual in gaining and understanding the real

situation in our environment in terms of improving our waste management in each houses in the

Barangay San Francisco Concepcion Tarlac. All the dimensions that affect the conduct of

managing waste are indicated here from waste segregation, waste disposal and waste

management. In personal and Historical events happen in the particular Barangay. San

Francisco Concepcion, Tarlac. They will be progressive and responsible to their actions ‘‘new

generation in the new environment’’.

Stage 1.
EMPATHIZE

“Wasting to desolate

Recycling for innovation

Innovating to developing”

To embrace the duty of being a world class developer . From beginning we embrace

The beauty and the ugliness of our nature and with those hidden beauty and ugliness, we

learned to put ourselves in a way that everyone for keeps the memory had is to follow and

pursue something. Follow the right thing. And pursue something that everyone can gain from it.

Mother Earth Foundation

Philippines emphasize that;

Improper solid waste management practices may also lead to disastrous events. Extreme

Rainfall caused by climate change can be endangered by uncollected malpractices as they can

lead to massive flooding and storm surge.

Among the 5 neighbor’s in the community they featured the worth of waste management

in 75% to 95% every day.

“The factors that affect participation of urban challenges “.

Roles can embrace everything in nature just to gain everyone.

According to the Design Thinking Process- a design methodology that provides a

solution based approach to solving stage of the Design Thinking Process is to gain empathetic

understanding of the problem you are trying to solve. With that this essay aims to provide

information and present different insights and perspectives regarding the challenges

encountered by Barangay San Francisco Concepcion, Tarlac Province. This essay will also

contain emphatic view and understanding on the role met by the community.

The community and its roles

Barangay San Francisco Concepcion, Tarlac is located at the western part of

Concepcion, Tarlac Province. This community consists of 5000 individuals based on the census

conducted last April 2019.

However, every individual have their own race and characteristics, but still of only one goal they

unite each other. The goal is to create and develop the waste management in their community.

According to Mr. Jayson Lagman (Barangay Captain) you can ever saw the worth of

something, unless you know that something is better if you wanted it to be better. Sometimes

you need and that was is to develop something that can everyone gain.

Mr. Samuel Hipolito (Brgy Councilor) support the argument that Mr. Lagman says. And

addsome additional information being a Barangay Councilor for almost 10 years I’ve been

experience everything and I know you everyone can also experience. And that was is to invent

and invest something that our Future generation gain. In addition, Mr. Alvaro Lansangan

(president in charge) stated that every family’s in their own proper waste management, They

segregate and recycled those materials that can still be used.

Why Emphatize with the School Community?

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, commuted citizens can change the world,

indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has. -Margaret Meed

In a general sense, emphaty is not just a process of experience and touch by experience but

it is a way of seeing, hearing and to feel that your part of a community that your living.

Toolkit as

“A deep understanding of the problem is to see the reality of your designed work’’. To do so

we need to have an understanding of the properties workplace, as well as their duty in their

community.

Based on abovementioned definition onwards of the best way to emphatize is to see the have a

seminar in the Barangay with the participation of family members in the society. To open up the

concerns and possible solutions for the waste management.

Stage 2.
DEFINE

Define is the state or set forth the meaning of a word, phrase to explain or identify the

nature or essential qualities of describe to fix or lay down clearly and definitely; specify distinctly

to determine or fix the boundaries or extent of to make clear the outline or form of:

According to Ralph Raven Soriano (2000), waste management are the activities and

action required to manage waste from it invention to its final disposal. So we have 5 different

types of waste management, the 1st one in the liquid waste that is commonly found in household

and industries the 2nd one is the solid waste rubbish include variety of items found in household

and industries, the 3rd one is the organic waste all food, waste garden waste manure and rotten

meat are classified as organic waste the 4th one is the recyclable rubbish all waste items that

can be converted into products tattoos can be used again and the laser one is the hazardous

waste includes all types of rubbish that are flammable, toxic, corrosive and reactive. Those

waste can be harm and distract our environment but the solid rubbish management for me is the

best thing to do deadlock those unnecessary things that you can see everywhere. According to

Jan Marion Mercado (2009) Water management is about being more efficient with raw materials

and making the most of each stage of the production process. Life cycle of a product, whether

you sell goods or service, everything you produce has a life-cycle. It begins with how you

manufacture, distribute, use and then reuse and recycle the product.

In this stage we will going to discuss the problem in Barangay San Francisco

Concepcion, Tarlac. Where we will going to solve those problems written below ;

•Improper waste segregation- Improper Waste Segregation is the contradictory of the 3R’s

(Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) in the idea of waste management. It is the improper human

activity of doing waste ladder that is reflected as one of the main causes of calamities in our

country. It is a negative action that leads to hazardous consequences for the environment.

SSM 102 – GEOGRAPHY 2: PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY.

MAY 2019.
A FIELD INQUIRY
Using the Design Thinking Process Method

•Improper waste disposal- Waste disposal can be defined as any method used to discard

unwanted substances or materials. Poor waste disposal activities engender severe

environmental problems on a location.

•Improper waste management- Negative effects of improper waste management not only ends

in a disgusting view but also affects the overall economy of a country. State has to spend a lot

of money to counter the effects of improper waste management. Moreover, animals depended

on the environment also face a great threat due to the oil spills and leaching of chemicals which

directly cause soil and water contamination. Burning of any disposed waste and plastic

materials results in air and environmental pollution.

•Irresponsible individuals- Those who are not liable to be called to account for actions, lacking

a sense of responsibility unreliable, shiftless and said or done as by an irresponsible person.

Improper disposal of waste can greatly affect the health of the population living nearby

the polluted area or landfills. Waste disposal workers and other employees in these landfill

facilities are at a greater risk. Exposure to improperly handled wastes can cause skin irritations,

blood infections, respiratory problems, growth problems, and even reproductive issues.

Stage 3.
IDEATE

According to Alline Wilson (2018, May 1) ideate means form an idea of imagine or

conceive due to improper waste disposal systems particularly by municipal waste management

teams waste heap up and become a problem. People clean their homes and place of work and

litter their surroundings which affects the environment and the commonly. Mismanagement of

can be directly linked to many life threatening disease like malaria, typhoid and other viral

infections. Landfill provides an out of sight out of mind rationally to the problem of waste

management.

Waste management can be done poorly. In a way that harms the environment, or it can be

care. In a manner that makes the earth cleaner and healthier. Waste emits these harmful

gasses, but waste recycling can reduce the impact. We should all be doing our part to keep our

world clean and free from dangerous pollutants, proper safety measures and waste disposal

methods make for a cleaner, safer world with less disease and lower potential harm to both

humans and animals.

To prevent diseases in our environment we should know how to manage our waste. By

simply separating to biodegradable to non-biodegradable and use it to recycled and to reuse it

again. By this prevention and managing waste we can prevent pollution and release of toxins on

our natural resources. By separating those waste we can prevent dengue and malaria which is

the one that caused by improper waste disposal and by this problem also we can less the

pollution by step burning plastic most specially Plastic Bottles that can harm our lungs and heart

to breath. So with the partnership and support of the Barangay Captain and Barangay

Councilors we write letter for the municipality office for the seminar that we will conducted for 3

days which is divided by the 3 sitio's of Barangay San Francisco Concepcion Tarlac the Sitio

Macabacle, Sitio Macangcong and Sitio Daue for the seminar contained ``No To Ratten

Rubbish, Yes to waste management “. This project contained of proper management plus the

5Rs-the Refuse, Reuse, Reduce, Recycle and Rot. This 5Rs, will help the Barangay to

completely and necessary solve those problems in the Barangay.

Even if you try your best to reduce, reuse, and recycle your household will generate some

waste. In today's world, its simply impossible to completely steer clear of garbage and waste.

Instead it is best to focus your efforts on making a legitimate difference in the world around you

by recycling your waste and following eco-friendly practices.

In this stage we will going to give and discuss the solution in the problem in the Define

stage.

•Proper waste segregation- The inclusion of other types of waste in recycling containers

causes several problems, all stemming from the fact that contamination reduces the quality of

recycled paper and plastic products. To prevent this, waste management firms need to spend

longer sorting improperly segregated waste, raising manpower costs. Contaminated recycled

products also sell for less, a loss that gets passed on to the customer.

•Proper waste disposal- Waste that is not properly disposed of can be hazardous to your

safety. Sharp object such as glass and rusty metals could cause serious injuries and infections,

especially for playing children that could put you in the hospital for a while. Pieces of plastic that

are not disposed properly end up choking animals in the environment and killing them. Some

kinds of environmental contaminants can also spread serious illness and disease if not disposed

of in the right way. Proper waste management and disposal removes all these hazardous

materials from the environment making it safer for both human beings and animals as well.

•Proper waste management- The most important reason for proper waste management is to

protect the environment and for the health and safety of the population. Certain types of waste

can be hazardous and can pollute the environment. Bad waste management practices can also

cause land and air pollution which can result in serious medical conditions in humans and

animals. Implementing good waste management practices not only helps to protect the

environment.

MAY 2019.
A FIELD INQUIRY
Using the Design Thinking Process Method

•Responsible Individuals- Every person has to make his or her own choices about protecting

the environment. If everyone in a democracy decided their vote didn't matter, nobody would

vote. If democracy can work, then so can environmental action. Think of it this way: all of us

have created this problem by neglecting the environment. That must mean that all of us can fix

the problem by protecting it. There are actions everyday people can take to protect the

environment.

First, we can recycle, reuse, and compost. Recycling involves cutting down on waste

and energy consumption by turning used items such as plastic bottles into new items. Reusing

involves cutting down on waste by reusing items such as grocery bags. Composting involving

using food waste to help create nutrient-rich soil rather than landfill waste. Much of that waste

ends up in landfills, where it produces greenhouse gases that make climate change worse.

Some of it ends up in the ocean, where it kills marine life. And creating new products

uses up a lot of energy. Yet, almost all of our waste can be recycled, reused, or composted.

Transport conservation is another thing we can do since one of the biggest sources of

greenhouses gases is transportation. Make better transport choices by choosing the least

damaging option.

Generally speaking, driving is more efficient than flying. Riding a bike is always better

than driving. Take a train, tram, or bus whenever one is available. Choose housing near to

where you go to school or work, and choose an efficient car. All of these things can reduce your

impact on the environment.

PROTOTYPE

Since my study is all about waste management we will going to make a pen holder that

is made from recyclable plastic bottles. With the help of the Barangay Captain and Barangay

Counselor we conduct a seminar for 3 days. Below are the materials needed in making pen

holder as well as their uses in this project.

Materials Definition
Recyclable Plastic Bottle A plastic bottle is a bottle constructed from

high density plastic. Plastic bottles are typically

used to store liquids such as water, soft drinks,

motor oil, cooking oil, medicine, shampoo,

milk, and ink. The size ranges from very small

sample bottles to large carboys. Consumer

blow molded containers often have integral

handles or are shaped to facilitate grasping.

Collected in the society.

Glue/Tape -A sticky substance that is used for joining

things together permanently, produced from

animal bones and skins or by a chemical

process.

-Refers to any one of a variety of

combinations of backing materials coated with

an adhesive. Different backing materials and

adhesives can be used depending on the

intended use.

Button a small fastener, now most commonly made of

plastic, but also frequently made of metal,

wood or seashell, which secures two pieces of

fabric together.

Magazines/ Construction paper -A magazine is a publication, usually a

periodical publication, which is printed or

electronically published (sometimes referred to

as an online magazine). Magazines are

generally published on a regular schedule and

contain a variety of content. They are

generally financed by advertising, by a

purchase price, by prepaid subscriptions, or a

combination of the three.

-(also called sugar paper) is a tough, coarse,

coloured paper. The texture is slightly rough,

and the surface is unfinished. Due to the

source material, mainly wood pulp, small

particles are visible on the paper's surface. It is

used for projects or crafts.

Cutter - a cutting implement a tool for cutting.

Scissors - Hand-operated shearing tools. A pair of

scissors consists of a pair of metal blades

pivoted so that the sharpened edges slide

against each other when the handles (bows)

opposite to the pivot are closed. Scissors are

used for cutting various thin materials, such as

paper, cardboard, metal foil, cloth, rope, and

wire.

This are the materials needed to create pen holder. It is easy to make pen holder as long

as you have a passion to help and save our environment and you love what you doing, there’s

nothing to worry about it. You can also sell it if you want to earn profit and share it also to

everyone so that they can earn money for their family as well.

CONCLUSION

To meaningfully compare and decide among processing options that produce different

waste forms, more information than is currently available is needed on viable disposition

pathways for waste streams and the requirements they impose on the waste forms, and

characterization of the calcine. Each of these inputs is needed to establish a credible basis for

an informed choice between different proposed processing technologies and different waste

forms (e.g., glass, cement, or a glass/ceramic).

In order to properly focus on where is to be sent, an overall waste management plan is

needed. To be truly comprehensive, such a plan would encompass all site inventories of

radioactive wastes and other nuclear materials. A key element of such a plan is a firm

knowledge of where the material is to go and what form it would be in to be acceptable. Until

those issues are resolved, the selection of any technical option is without a proper basis.

One purpose of a waste management plan is to treat uncertainties that prevent the full

resolution of the technical issues the regulatory issues, and the other program planning

considerations. The DOE planning approach in the past.

APPENDIX C
GLOSSARY
Waste- unwanted or unusable materials. Waste is any substance which is discarded after

primary use, or is worthless, defective and of no use.

Segregation- the act or practice of segregating; a setting apart or separation of people or things

from others or from the main body or group: gender segregation in some fundamentalist

religions.

Disposal- the power or authority to make use of as one chooses : the power or authority to

dispose of something.

Management- Management (or managing) is the administration of an organization, whether it is

a business, a not-for-profit organization, or government body. Management includes the

activities of setting the strategy of an organization and coordinating the efforts of its employees

(or of volunteers) to accomplish its objectives through the application of available resources,

such as financial, natural, technological, and human resources. The term "management" may

also refer to those people who manage an organization.

Responsibilities- A duty or obligation to satisfactorily perform or complete a task (assigned by

someone, or created by one's own promise or circumstances) that one must fulfill, and which has a

consequent penalty for failure.

Roles- is a set of connected behaviors, rights, obligations, beliefs, and norms as conceptualized

by people in a social situation. It is an expected or free or continuously changing behaviour and

may have a given individual social status or social position. It is vital to both functionalist and

interactionist understandings of society. Social role posits the following about social behavior.

Individuals- which exists as a distinct entity. Individuality (or selfhood) is the state or quality of

being an individual; particularly of being a person separate from other people and possessing

their own needs or goals, rights and responsibilities. The exact definition of an individual is

important in the fields of biology, law, and philosophy.
