GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY

ID

This kind of personality according to Sigmund Freud is the basic. It represents urges or instant
desire for food as well as for sex. Babies only has this kind of personality. Other personalities are not
present to them until they grow up. It is more of a want that if not met, a person can become tense or
anxious. I’ve experienced so many kind of this. I will tell you an example for this personality for you to
better understand this one. I was riding a jeepney on the way to my work place when suddenly I felt like
I need to use a comfort room. Instead of continuing my travel and have it done in the office, I went off
the jeepney and find the nearest fastfood chain where I could pee. In this act, I felt relieved and
satisfied. I chose the urge to pee rather than going to work so that I couldn’t be late to satisfy my need.

EGO

Ego is the type of personality that deals with reality. Unlike in Id, to satisfy your need you need
to think of a way instantly. But this kind is different you delay and help get rid of the tension that the id
feels if the desire is not met right away. The ego recognizes that other people have needs and want too
and being selfish is not good. It uses reasoning that is acceptable. It also serves as the mediator between
the Id and Superego. One of my experiences of this ind of personality is when I wanted to buy a new
phone. I was at the mall that time and the phone that I wanted was on sale. I have the money with me
but that money was supposed to pay internet, electric and motorcycle fee. If I wouldn’t be able to pay
all those bills, our electric and internet will be cut and for possible foreclosure of our motorclycle. I
chose not to buy the cellphone even though something inside of me is telling me to purchase that one. I
delayed my gratification and saved money in order to buy that. My ego works with me.

SUPEREGO

The Superego is the third type of human personality. It is closely related to ego but it adds
morals to every reasoning and decision making. Decisions are based on moral values unlike in ego
wherein decisions are based on the consequences of an action. As a manager, I am in control of
everything in the office. I coul d do whatever I want. There were lots of supplies in the office like bond
papers. My son needs plenty of it. I could got as much as I want but my superego works with me. I know
that even though I am in full control of office supplies, still it will be a form of stealing. We all know that
stealing is not an accepatable manner. Though I will get only few papers, I did not do it. Instead I went to
a bookstore and bought bond papers for my son. Big or small once you steal is against morality.
