AI is Transforming Mobile Technology

AI improves both hardware and software on mobile phones, with implications for
marketers and consumers.

Mobile AI helps you automate some of your 35,000 decisions per day
The average person sees their phones at 2.5 hours and makes 35,000 decisions in a
single day. The reality is that we often use one another to help. Our smartphones help us
with the choices we make. Even now, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a large part of how
you use your smartphone. And the support you get from your mobile phone will increase
exponentially. AI is turning your phone into the best wingman in the world.

Artificial intelligence is a way to help computers learn for example from large datasets.
AI allows computers to access information and rules the way humans do, without having
to program with specific rules for every possible event. In summary, computers can help
generalize what happens next based on the patterns seen in similar situations.

What does AI mean for marketers in mobile technology?

AI is the marketing of the Holy Grail. The purpose of every marketing manager is to
identify customer needs and deliver a product that fits those needs (even if it requires
developing a new one). Mobile technology, especially mobile phones, provides insights
that have never before been available on people’s true behaviors and reveal truths that
have never before been available. AI automates the separation of that data for insight.
The result is a clear understanding of customer needs and a clear goal against marketers.

Consider how the two concepts (AI and mobile) actually connect. Huawei’s Mate range,
Samsung Galaxy, Google’s Pixel phones and Apple’s iPhones now have specialized
hardware designed to make AI-based tasks more efficient. This capability was only 3% of
phones last year — but up to 35% of all handsets sold by 2020. (See chart.) Every
indication is what we think of the term. AI phones are synonymous with other terms,
such as a prepaid plan or mobile data.

AI is already a huge part of your phone experience, whether you realize it or not

Why invest more? The ultimate goal of each of these manufacturers is to improve your
experience as a consumer, on their device. Stakes. We’ve reached the maximum
smartphone (one where the global market is saturated and everyone who wants a
smartphone). Handset manufacturers are combining the best microprocessor hardware
and AI software to provide the best possible experience and attract customers from their
competitors.

The average smartphone has about a dozen sensors — accelerometers, GPS,

microphones, cameras, and so on. Over the years, phones have been collecting data on
us through several sensors on the phone. Now AI / ML is learning to use the information.

Already AI work is constantly happening on host phones.

AI on camera: AI is already on the camera for most high-end smartphones, more than
anywhere else. AI algorithms can help you determine if you are snoring a panorama or a

person — and adjust the type of filter used to give you the best results. AI can help you
find the right lens for mild conditions. There is also AI behind the facial recognition that
you use to get into your iPhone, which again uses images from onboard cameras. (In fact
— True Depth ’standardizes the 3D image of your face to Apple Pay and other payment
services.)

AI and Other Voice Assistants in Circle: Today’s smartphones have basic virtual
assistant capabilities, which are growing rapidly. Some speech recognition now provides
a better level of awareness than the human listener, even in a noisy environment. Virtual
assistants can become a very large part of our interface with our phone, over time and
the natural human language you provide is explained by AI.

Used to allow more human searches of images: Most phones already automatically
refine images (for example, removing where the red-eye was found) and help you sort
and store images in your gallery in a human way — by friend names, for example. Some
gallery software automatically slices the story of how your weekend went in the form of
pictures, animations, and music.

AI Key Provider to Improve Actuality Experiences: The aim AI processors often called
neural processing engines or similar found on these dedicated smartphone chips also use
on-device augmented reality experiences, for example, Apple’s Animoji.

Everyday Activities: More fundamentally, every time you search from your phone,
Google has AI behind Google’s main search engine and is compatible with backstage
work in applications such as battery life management and security.

Smartphones now have specialized microprocessors to perform AI tasks:

AI’s contribution to good experiences on the device, and the strategic importance of the
field to stay current in the smartphone market has seen every mobile manufacturer
accelerate its investment in the field of AI-based customer experience.

This has led to specially designed microprocessors that can perform the math involved in
AI calculations faster and more efficiently — two of the most critical requirements for
mobile, using less power

Huawei claims it was the first person to incorporate a neural engine into their
smartphones last year, which they called their Kirin processor / 970 chipset with ‘built-in
AI’. At the period, they appealed that their technology could develop up to 2000 images.
The computer is included in their companion lineup and will be part of their upcoming
Mate and Mate 10 product releases.

Notably, Apple is also launching its A12’s Bionic phone AI chip, which is one of these AI-
targeted microprocessors — designed to make AI work more efficient. Apple added its AI
chip to the iPhone 8, 8X and 8 Plus for the first time last year.

AI is also growing in smartphone software

AI is already a key part of Google’s apps at Pixel 3 this year: Playing now, for example,
Google will always be in music recognition. The Pixel 3 also has a Call Screener feature,
which answers your calls verbally, communicates with callers, and captures what they
say in a text format so you can see if you want to call them back. The photobook takes a
number of selfies but you’re only pulling stupid faces at your friends.

And Apple should not be overtaken. Access to the chip is also provided to Apple’s 3rd
party app development community. Third-party apps can, for the first time, use the
dedicated processors they want, to perform their AI tasks, which is exactly how Apple is
doubling down on this feature.

The mobile phone market is rebuilding around the concept of AI

It is no exaggeration to say that the smartphone industry is revolutionizing and building
on the promise of AI. The big opportunity, for now, in AI, is to help us get what we want
next. Often, when the AI is fine, we may not realize that it works, that things seem to be
running a little smoother. The user interface is so important to the success of phones,
that every major handset manufacturer is investing heavily in providing the best
experience they can, and using AI to advance the field.

We love our smartphones, even more, when we eliminate some of the 35,000 decisions
we make every day.

These mobile-compatible microprocessor chips that perform AI calculations become

cheaper over time and are the stuff of every connected device in the world, not just for
every phone, but through the 5G connected internet. (IoT)
