INTRODUCTION
• Spur gears are a type of cylindrical gear, with shafts that are
parallel and coplanar, and teeth that are straight and oriented
parallel to the shafts. They’re arguably the simplest and most
common type of gear – easy to manufacture and suitable for a
wide range of applications.

• Metal cutting machines, power plants, marine engines,

mechanical clocks and watches, fuel pumps are some of the
many applications of spur gears

LITERATURE GAP
• It was observed that even though a thorough analysis was
done on the material properties as well as the subsequent
parameters that determine the life of the gear, such as stress
and wear off rate, a final optimised design was never
obtained.
METHODOLOGY
• Our project attempts to achieve the most suitable design in
terms of functioning and weight reduction, following the
GENETIC ALGORITHM.

• We first plan to compare various material types and choose

the best among them. After that, Genetic algorithm shall be
applied on that material to obtain the most optimum design.
