The student conducted a calorimeter experiment burning 3 grams of ethanol and 3 grams of methanol. For ethanol, the initial water temperature was 14°C and final was 80°C, yielding a calculated energy of 487.08 joules. For methanol, the initial was 25°C and final was 89°C, yielding 489.6 joules. Both were short of the expected 4100 joules, due to experimental errors like vibrating the beaker or air currents in the room since a real calorimeter was not used.

I am going to burn 3 gram of ethanol in this experiment.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ Step 1-I take 10 gram distilled water and ı put into the calorimeter . Step 2-I take 3 gram ethanol and I put into the crucible. Step 3-I measured the distilled water. Step 4-The first temapture of water is measured 14 celcius. Step 5-After that I burned the ethanol. Step 6-I waited until the ethanol burns completly. Step 7-On the last phase I measured the water 80 celcius. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ Q=m.c.ΔT 14 celcius =287 kelvin 80 celcius =353 kelvin Q=3.2,46 j/g.K.66 Q=3.2,46.66 Q=487,08 joule --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ I found 487,08 joule but I need to find 4100 joule. There are some errors in my experiment. These are the causes of my errrors: 1-I might have vibrated the beaker. 2-We don’t have got a real calorimeter .So mine calculations can not be real. 3-Maybe while I was doing the experiment in the room there could have been wind. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ I am goning to burn 3 gram of methanol in this experiment. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ Step 1- I take 10 gram distilled water and ı put into the calorimeter .
