I. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Banago is like the other places in the Philippines that has a historical
beginning. Only few people are telling the stories about the beginning of the
name of this barangay, and they said that this place is full of trees that looks
like a mini forest. Those trees were called “Banago”.

The first group people who lived here were led by person called “CABESA”.
Years have passed and the number of people who lived in this place are
multiplied. The trees were cut off to build houses. One day, there are some
Spaniards who came across in this place and were asking for the name of this
place. The cabesa did not understood what have been said by the Spaniards
and thought that they were asking for the name of the trees, and said that it
was “Banago”. From that time, this place is already called as “Banago”.
II. GEOGRAPHICAL AREA/LAND AREA/LAND USE

Nagcarlan is a municipality in the landlocked province of Laguna. The

municipality has a land area of 78.10 square kilometers or 30.15 square miles
which constitutes 4.07% of Laguna's total area. Banago is a barangay in the
municipality of Nagcarlan, in the province of Laguna. Its population as
determined by the 2015 Census was 2,611. This represented 4.14% of the total
population of Nagcarlan.

 IV. INFRASTRUCTURES AND UTILITIES

a. Drainage and sewerage – No details given by the local government.

b. Barangay hall – Our barangay hall, a two-story building, is located at Purok 2,
beside Plaridel Elementary School.
c. Church/Chapel – Our barangay has its own chapel found at Purok 1 near the
church of Jehova’s Witness.
d. Daycare – The Daycare Learning Center for locals, is merged with the barangay
hall of Banago.
e. Schools – The following schools are located with the perimeter of Banago:
Plaridel Elementary School, Plaridel Integrated National High School and
Laguna State Polytechnic University – Nagcarlan Campus.
f. Health Center – The Rural Health Center of our barangay is also located at the
barangay hall.
g. Other infrastructures:
- Legazia, a terrace resort, formerly Villa Sylvia Resort, is one of the famous
resorts found at Nagcarlan, Laguna. It is known for its unique structures
and environmental friendly surrounding which will offer costumers a
relaxing and positive place to stay.
