Based on our tests, these are the settings we recommend to give the best performance

boost:

 Ambient Occlusion: Off

 Ground Cover: Off
 Shader: Low
 Screenspace Reflections: Off
 Anti-Aliasing: Off

Initial Performance (graphics preset; Medium):

 60-67 FPS

Results after Recommended Settings:

 Over 90 FPS+ - Medium graphics preset plus all of the above changes.
 Slightly under 90FPS - Medium graphics preset plus all of the above changes,
Shader Detail on High

For reference, here was our PC build with which we tested each setting:

 GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060

 CPU: Intel Core i7 6700k, 4.0 GHz
 Version: Steam (using Oculus headset)

Depending on your hardware, PC build & peripherals, and their settings, performance
may differ so please experiment with these settings until you find what works best for
you.

Conclusions

These are what we consider high performance savers. Lowering these settings will
significantly increase performance (in order of impact):

 Shaders: Low
 Anti-Aliasing: Off/CMAA
 Crowds: Low/Off
 Ambient Occlusion off
 Trees, Bloom, Light Streaks, Godrays (These help a lot in areas dense with
trees)
 Shadows: Off (or as low as possible)
 Ground Cover: Off
 Screenspace Reflections: Off, lower overall reflections settings too will help.

We recommend not using Multisampling (or lower values), it is costly in VR.

Supersampling methods from SteamVR would be more beneficial if you can run them.

These are low performance savers and won't make much difference if you're using them
under Medium, but lowering them all may save a few frames:

 Vehicle Details (Note: Ultra Low removes drivers and other elements, so use it
if nothing else is working for you)
 Texture Detail
 Track
 Night Lighting
 Objects
 Chromatic Aberration, Lens Dust
 Anisotropic Filtering (performance gain is negligible compared to High)

With our Recommended Settings and some minor tweaks, performance on Steam
should be similar to that of Oculus.

We increased our framerate from 60-67 FPS up to 90 FPS+ with the Recommended
Settings, using the GTX 1060 in our reference build.

If you have a higher-end graphics card you may be able get similar performance with
Shader Details set to High and other settings on Low/Off.

So long as you don’t increase Multisampling, and ensure you play in Windowed Mode
on a reasonable resolution, you should see notable performance gains.

VR gameplay will sync to 45 FPS if it drops below 90 FPS, so it's important to keep it
the framerate high for a smooth experience.

Other Notes

On Steam DiRT Rally 2.0 will try to run normal setting configs, typically in fullscreen
on higher presets by default.

Fullscreen isn't recommended as it can cause issues with performance (upping

resolution) and stretch UI elements.
We're working on a fix for this in a future update; a workaround for now is to disable
fullscreen in the hardware settings:

 C:\Users\ YOUR NAME HERE \Documents\My Games\DiRT Rally

2.0\hardwaresettings\hardware_settings_config.xml
 ‘ fullscreen="0” ‘
 You can also change the resolution here; another quick way is to change these
settings in the flatscreen mode before going into VR.

Incase you didn't know, in the Gameplay settings (which can also be accessed via the
pause menu) there is a tab for VR Comfort.

This contains options for the following:

 Enable all Views

 Enable Right Stick Camera Control
 Enable Looking Back
 Enable Locked Orientation
 Enable Motion Blur
 Full View During Crashes

Known Issues

The following is a (non-exhaustive) list of known issues with VR:

 4x MSAA and higher, combined with Shader Detail set to Low, causing outline
effect on trees.
 Ambient Occlusion set to Low causing shadowy effects on nearby objects.
 DiRT Rally 2.0 automatically running in VR mode if you have any VR
peripherals (including sensors) connected while SteamVR is installed.
(This is set to be resolved in version 1.8)
 Vive HMD resets position slightly behind head.
 Text being hard to read in SteamVR Pause screens.

There are more known issues than this, however many are too minor to post here. As
always the team is actively reading the forums to see how you're all getting on with the
game.

reach the finish line in one piece. In contrast to races, where the tracks can be
memorized and the track barriers and sand waysides prevent the driver from crashing
the car after a mistake, in the rallies you only have a single chance for a good ride on a
narrow, unknown route. In the text you will find a comprehensive guide to the co-
drivers' commands describing the track, as well as practical advices on how to drive
a rally car.

From the guide to DiRT Rally 2.0 you will find out which cars to purchase at the
beginning and which should be avoided. We also included tips on the career mode and
the management of your team and the car between races. A separate section of the guide
is the description of the Rallycross and its rules, which differ severely from the classic
rallies. In the guide you will also find answers to frequently asked questions, tips on
controls and the hardware requirement for the PC version of the game.
DiRT Rally 2.0 is the next installment of the rally simulator from the British
Codemasters studio. You will find over 50 licensed cars here, from the most famous
brands and rally groups - ranging from the small Skoda, through the classic Lancia
Stratos, to the iconic group B monsters from the 80's. The game allows you to manage
your own team during the career mode and has an FIA license for the Rallycross
competition. In this installment, next to such locations as the USA, New Zealand,
Australia, Spain and Argentina, the Rally Poland has also appeared.

Starting tips

If you already have one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the handbrake and
your leg adds gas in anticipation for the signal to start the rally, at least take a look at
the handful of tips that will help you reach the finish line safely:

1. Always listen to the co-driver and memorize the sequences of subsequent

turns
2. Every car can be tested before the purchase
3. It is better to slow down and complete the turn with lower speed than to
crash and lose precious time to get back on track or for repairs
4. If you hear "Don't cut!", you must not cut the corner
5. Remember to repair your car
6. Remember to change tires
7. Take part in daily and weekly challenges for extra cash
8. Keep in mind that car damages during the challenges translate to the career
mode
9. At the beginning, do not touch the tuning sliders
10. Invest in your team to repair the car faster and cheaper
11. If you are not doing good in rallies, take part in the Rallycross competitions
- those are a bit easier

Basics of rally driving and steering

DiRT Rally 2.0 Video Game

 genre: Racing
 developer: Codemasters Software
 publisher: Codemasters Software
 platform: PC, PS4, XONE

DiRT Rally 2.0 is the next installment of the best-selling racing game series, which
allows you to take part in rallies. The game was prepared by the British studio
Codemasters, which has been developing the series since its inception.

DiRT Rally 2.0 is the next installment of the series that allows you to take part in virtual
rallies. The game is characterized by a very high level of realism. It is the responsibility
of experienced developers from Codemasters, who have been consistently developing
the cycle since its inception.

DiRT Rally 2.0 is a realistic rally simulator. The game gives us the opportunity to drive
one of the dozens of well-known off-road vehicles (e.g. VW Polo GTI R5, Mitsubishi
Lancer Evolution X, Citroen C3 R5, Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R) and compete for the
title of the best driver. The game also allows you to run your own team - including
hiring employees and developing your garage.

A demanding driving model takes into account factors such as road surface, weather and
even gravel, which accumulates on the tires, affecting their grip. Real-world support
systems such as traction control, track stabilization and ABS help players in their
efforts. Cars are also damaged while driving and may even refuse to obey altogether.
All vehicles can of course be tuned, adjusting the specific parameters to your
expectations. A high level of realism means that success or failure can be determined by
one mistake.

There are many special sections waiting to be covered, located in various corners of the
world: in Spain, Austria, Argentina, New Zealand, the United States and Poland. The
production of the Codemasters team is fully licensed by the FIA World Rallycross
Championship.
In DiRT Rally 2.0 we can play both alone and in company. There are several different
modes at the disposal of the players – we have the possibility to take part in the World
Rally Championship, play single rallies, and compete with other players thanks to the
extensive network functions.

Three-dimensional DiRT Rally 2.0 graphic design presents a very high level of quality.
Both locations and vehicles have been mapped with attention to detail. The lighting
system, realistic weather effects and mechanics responsible for vehicle damage and dirt
are also very impressive.

Best cars for the beginning in DiRT Rally

2.0 DiRT Rally 2.0 guide, tips
The following chapter is dedicated to cars in DiRT Rally 2.0. Here you will find
advice on choosing your first cars and what should you spend your earned cash on.
We also included information about vehicle classes and how to improve them.

A rally car and a rally car are not equal! You will find out about it not only through
driving them, but already in the game's menu, looking through the rich selection of
historical and modern cars in a large number of rally classes.

Classes group individual vehicles with regard to their power and the type of drive -
forward, rear or on both axles - and can be further divided into sub-classes. In DiRT
Rally 2.0 you will find rally cars, as well as those designed for Rallycross.
Lancia and Opel you start the game with have free repairs - you will appreciate it more
often than you think.

You start the game with the classic Lancia Fulvia HF for rally and Opel Corsa in
the RX Super 1600 Rallycross class. Those two are not the most exciting cars in the
game, but their repairs are always free. If you want to save some money for new cars
and you tend to waste too much putting your cars back to action after a crash, those two
will always be a good choice, allowing you to earn money without paying for your
mistakes.

You purchase cars from your garage. Each one of them can be tested before purchase
by going through a short track - go ahead and use this option as much as you like.
Not all cars will always be available for purchase - store contents change every 8
hours, marked by the counter located in the upper right corner of the screen. If the car
you wanted to purchase is not available, wait, instead of spending the money right
away. Many cars are available in a new or used version. Used cars are cheaper, but
you need to keep in mind that those cars will require several repairs soon after the
purchase.

The counter in the upper right corner of the screen informs you when the offer is going
to be refreshed. The cars marked with yellow are used - they are cheaper, but in most
cases damaged.

There are many representatives of each class of vehicles, which is why you can follow
your own taste to a certain extent, as cars of the same class will drive similarly.
Differences between classes, however, can be quite big, so it is generally a good idea to
be careful and not purchase a powerful B-class car, no matter how much you like the
iconic Audi Sport Quattro or Lancia Stratos.

Good cars to start with

Let us try to divide the best cars for the start according to their price ranges. If you
dream about something else than the default Fulvia, the second version of Gold -
Volkswagen Golf GTI 16V - for about 50k credits is a good choice. A small Mini
will also be a good choice, but its slow speed will not give you an exciting ride.

With about 150k credits, you can invest into Peugeot 208 R2. Maybe it is not as iconic
as the 205, but it will also not lead to frustration on the road.
About 100k more (250k) will give you access to the rally stars - you cannot play a rally
game and not have an EVO or Subaru in your collection. 250k will be enough for a
Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X or Subaru WRX STI NR4. Take advantage of the test
drive if you can afford either of them - the second can be purchased later! Four-wheel
drive and excellent handling, combined with good performance makes driving on even
the most demanding surface a pleasure. You can also try out the slightly more
expansive, earlier model - Subaru Impreza 1995 for 270k.

If you want to try out something more powerful, the best representative of group B will
be the MG Metro 6R4. It will certainly not be such a drag as, for instance, Ford RS200.
In the Rallycross competition, the default Corsa should be enough for the beginning.
Another recommendation worth mentioning is, again, Subaru WRX STI - but this type
in the RX class. As usual, it will drive like a dream.

Career mode in DiRT Rally 2.0

The career mode in DiRT Rally 2.0 looks similar to the first installment - that is, it
differs severely from those found in other racing games. Aside from daily and weekly
challenges, this is the only game mode in which you can earn credits to purchase
new cars, upgrades to them and pay for training for your crew. You can choose any car
in your garage, but you cannot set the difficulty level of the game. It is set in
accordance to your skills.

You start your first competition from the easiest level, "Open". If you take a place
in the top three, you will advance and be able to race in the higher level competition.
Each subsequent level is characterized by a better level of artificial intelligence and a
gradually increasing number of events to pass. The list of levels is as follows:

1. Open
2. Clubman
3. Professional
4. Elite
5. Masters

You can individually adjust the level of the artificial intelligence only in the free-play
mode, as well as personally defined competitions, but you will not develop your team
and earn credits in those modes.

You can check the difficulty level of a competition in the bottom left corner of the
screen.

Practical advice

While playing in the career mode, you not only fight for the best position, but you also
need to take care of your car and your team. The credits you earn will be used to:

1. Purchase engine mapping.

2. Purchase upgrade parts.
3. Train the crew.
4. Repair your cars.

With each kilometer you make, you will be developing the engine mapping. Subsequent
levels increase its performance, but at the same time accelerate wear. You can, however,
always go back to the previous, more durable version. On the other hand, improvements
to the clutch, brakes, shock absorbers and differential come with advantages only and
increase the protection against wear of those parts - you should always invest into them.
At the very beginning, however, you should focus on developing your crew. Their
higher level allows you to repair cars cheaper and quicker - and car damages will be
more of a problem for you than wearing off parts.

{ramkazielona}
Remember that by choosing the first free car in your garage -

Lancia Fulvia - all of the repairs will be done for free. This means that by playing
through the career mode with this car, you will always only earn credits for upgrades -
you will not be losing them for repairs and thus for participating in the competitions.
{/ramkazielona}

At the beginning you should focus on developing your crew.

Upgrading parts increases their durability to wear.

Remember about doing the necessary repairs and changing tires before venturing on the
track. Do not exceed the repair time, as it will translate into worse positions in the
classifications. You can always choose quick repair instead of the standard one and
change entire parts only between the competitions. You can also rely on the game
suggestions and select the automatic repairs. The crew will choose the most crucial
elements requiring repairs and its type.
The time required to perform repairs can be checked in the bottom right corner of the
screen. If it exceeds half an hour, you should choose another type of repair - quick
instead of the standard one.

Changing tires is a part of strategy that has a big impact on higher difficulty levels. The
softer the tires, the better the grip, but also faster wear, which will influence the
behavior of the car at the end of the race. Their selection depends largely on your
driving style - it is a good idea to leave the default set of medium mixture at the
beginning.

Remember to change tires before each race. The medium mixture is recommended at
the beginning.

Rallycross

The Rallycross competition is easier than the rally and the races are shorter here as well.
Play through them if you are in need of additional credits. At the beginning you take
part in four qualifying rounds, four laps each. Although there are only 5 cars on the
track, there are 20 participants. Unfortunately, even if you always finish in the first
place, your time might still not be enough to quality for the quarterfinals along
with the best twelve of participants.
There is no co-driver in the Rallycross, but you will still be hearing tips from your crew
through the radio.

You should remember about repairs in this mode as well. Try to take off well and
block the rivals' way, as they will also have no qualms to cut you off. Watch out for
changes on the surface - from gravel to asphalt - when the grip changes dramatically.

Each track has a designated Joker lap.

In every Rallycross competition you must complete a single Joker lap. This is an
alternative route through the lap, usually increasing its duration. In each competition
you need to complete the Joker lap once, but if you do a false start - twice. Designating
a lap as Joker is entirely up to you. It is worth playing through it at the beginning or at
most at the penultimate lap - this will allow you to replay it in case of losing position.

Look for specially marked boards so as not to miss the Joker lap entrance.

Commands of the co-driver in DiRT

Rally 2.0 DiRT Rally 2.0 guide, tips
At first the messages of the co-driver on the rally track might seem a bit difficult to
understand, especially when spoken one after another, in one swift sentence. From
the guide to DiRT Rally you will learn how to understand the commands of the co-
driver and quickly and efficiently pass the rally stage.

The key to a quick and crash-free drive through a rally track in DiRT Rally 2.0 -
especially during the first contact with the game and the available rallies - is to listen to
the co-driver's commands. What initially might seem like a strange cipher, thoroughly
describes the path ahead and how you should behave. The co-driver informs you at what
speed you should enter the corner, how tight the turn is, how long the straight ahead of
you is and whether there are any surprises, like rocks, potholes - awaiting you.

Listening to the co-driver during the rally is crucial, as the driver is a bit like a sapper -
one major mistake and the car will be turned into a wreck, incapable of further use. You
cannot memorize the track, you do not have a wide, asphalt track or plowed field in
front of you that you can safely fall out to in case of a mistake. Only narrow corridors,
full of trees and boulders, awaiting you on a rally track. It is crucial to be ready for
what lies behind the next corner - and you only have seconds to do so.
The list of commands is not overly complicated or long. The biggest difficulty,
however, is to memorize whole sequences of turns, happening one after another. Special
icons appearing on the screen help with the task - but you can also turn them off for
better immersion and realism. The co-driver tips can be divided into the main ones -
concerning turns - and all the rest.

Turns

Turns are dictated with the indication of the direction - "right" or "left" - and the
tightness level - ranging from 6 to 1. The higher the number, the softer the turn. In
addition, there are hairpins, i.e. change of direction by 180 degrees, 90 degree turns
(square) and the tightest versions called acute.

Each turn requires different preparations and, of course, a different technique to

overcome it. Here is how individual numbers translate into the way you will be driving.
Think of them as quite general outlines, not strict requirements, as each turn is slightly
different and might require different approach.

Driving basics, tips and controls in DiRT

Rally 2.0
In this section of the DiRT Rally 2.0 guide, we have included information about car
control using different controllers, as well as info about help and assists available
in the game. You will also learn the basics of the rally driving and how it differs
from races. We advise how to pass rally stages quickly and without accidents.

Driving a rally car on a loose, gravel surface differs significantly from asphalt races.
While in the latter you absolutely do not want to drift sideways in the corners, in rallies
light drifts and counter-steering are essential to quickly complete tracks. You
cannot learn the track by heart, you will not remember all of the brake points and you
will not have wide curbs to use on the sides.

Rally driving is more like crossing through a narrow tunnel with great speed, with traps
on both sides of the track. It requires maximum focus all the time, not only on what
you see in front of your car, but also on what might appear in a moment. Your only
aid are the co-drivers' commands and your driving skills.

The left turn disappears behind a terrain obstacle and the co-driver is already
communicating a turn to the right - rally driving requires you to think ahead.

Controls

DiRT Rally 2.0 aspires to the simulation genre, which is why controlling the car is not
the easiest task and you need to take more complex physics into consideration, as
opposed to games such as DiRT 4 or The Crew 2. You will get the best effects by using
the steering wheel with pedals. You will have a little less control on a gamepad,
although DiRT Rally 2.0 is quite playable on the pad without major modifications to the
control settings. An extreme option is to use a keyboard. However, even though you can
set your own keys, the control over the vehicle will be extremely difficult and
competing in online matches and getting the best times almost impossible. If you still
want to use it, you should also use the in-game assists.

The list of assists is as follows:

1. Transmission - automatic, semi-automatic, manual, manual with H transmission.
2. Clutch Override - you can always use the clutch.
3. Auto Repairs - the game will automatically repair cars.
4. Anti-Lock Braking System - prevents the wheels from blocking during braking.
5. Off-Throttle Braking - taking feet off the gas pedal turns on the brake.
6. Automatic Windscreen Wipers - the windscreen is automatically cleaned.
7. Exterior Cameras - turning it off forces the view from the cockpit.
8. Launch Control - prevents excessive wheel spin when starting off.
9. Stability Control - helps you keep control over the car in all situations.
10. Traction Control - has a particular importance in cars with rear-wheel drive.
11. Time Control Braking - slows down the car after crossing the finish line, prevent
it from taking damage after the race ends.

While using the steering wheel, you should turn off most of the assists immediately.
Assists such as the automatic transmission, ABS, Traction or Stability Control slightly
slow down the vehicle, preventing you from having the full control over it - which, in
turn, the steering wheel with pedals provide. It is worth learning to play without
assists from the very beginning to prevent yourself from getting bad habits. If you
are unsuccessful, try with a little help of ABS and Traction Control.

While playing with the gamepad, you should also start with the least amount of
assists, as you will still have proper control over the vehicle by using the analog axes.
You should, however, keep in mind that changing gears will be a little bit more
problematic with the gamepad, especially due to the fact that you will be doing it
constantly. You can try the semi-automatic mode, in which you have access to the
automatic transmission, but you can still change gears manually, allowing you, for
instance, to quickly decrease gears. If steering without assists is too difficult for you,
turn on the slightest values of ABS, Traction Control and Stability Control. It is worth
noting that in DiRT Rally 2.0, unlike other titles, playing with a gamepad does not
require any additional corrections in the controller settings.
Steering using the keyboard has nothing to do with realism or simulation, which is why
you should have no qualms to use the assists. This is because the keyboard offers only
"binary" control - you either have gas pressed to the metal or zero power. The
same applies to brakes and turning - the tires are either directed straight ahead or
fully to the left or right. One way to get rid of this effect is to quickly press the gas
or brake keys, allowing you to have bigger control over the vehicle, but this
requires a lot of practice. You can do the opposite - start with the full ABS,
Traction Control and Stability Control assists and then gradually lower them until
you feel that you have no control over the car.

In all cases, regardless of the controller, you should never have the "Off-Throttle
Braking" option turned on - it simulates uniaxial pedals and unnaturally combines
gas with the brake.

NOTE

In the current, post-release version of the game, the Force Feedback on the steering

Techniques of rally driving

It takes a lot of driving skills to quickly complete a track, which is why at the beginning
you should not be thinking about completing races on the first place, but rather focusing
on preventing your car from getting damaged. Driving on gravel or mud requires a
completely different style than races taking place on asphalt. You will achieve much
better results by balancing with the entire mass of the vehicle, instead of just
turning the wheels, but that requires proper gas and brake handling. Additionally, a lot
depends on the type of drive of the car - a car with a rear-wheel drive behaves
differently than one with front-wheel or 4x4 drive. Learning the proper usage of the
handbrake is also beneficial, as it will be used in some of the more advanced tricks,
such as the Scandinavian flick.

While driving on gravel, be prepared for very smooth operation of gas and brake
pedals, and, above all else, the full use of their ranges. Very rarely you will have the
opportunity to push either of those to the metal. Usually you will be operating in the
middle of their range, which is why driving on a keyboard is so difficult. In the rally
races, the "feathering the throttle" technique - focusing on smooth addition and
reduction of gas - allows you to maintain better grip. You will also use the brake in the
same manner.

You will be watching the route from this position frequently.

Be prepared for constant counters with the steering wheel. Often the wheels will be
directed in the opposite direction than the turn. In real-wheel drive cars you can use the
gas pedal to turn the car properly towards a better exit from a corner. This, combined
with proper maneuvering of the steering wheel will allow you to perform the
Scandinavian Flick - a maneuver in which you first set the car opposite to the direction
of the turn and then quickly return towards the direction, in a position allowing a much
faster exit from a tight turn.

You start it on the inner side before the turn and then turn rapidly in the opposite
direction. Immediately after that, you release the gas, press the brake and turn back into
the direction of the turn. You now release both the gas and the brake at the same time.
The back of the car should turn in such a way as to allow you to get out of the turn
quickly, increasing speed at the same time. The maneuver is very difficult and it
requires practice to master. Remember that you can use it on loose or slippery surfaces
and only on turnarounds, 90-degree turns and some of the "1-s" in the game.
The Scandinavian Flick.

You should, however, change the above habits when on asphalt routes. There, as in
the races, the greatest grip is what matters the most - the less slips and counters, the
faster and gentler it is for the tires.

General tips

1. Turn off the co-driver's commands - they distract you from the course of the
track on which every stone counts. It is better to just listen to the co-driver and
focus your sight on the track.
2. Start with a very slow ride in the free play mode. Learn how turns with different
markings look like and what surprises await you along the path. Try to gradually
overcome them faster and faster.
3. Use the handbrake only on turnarounds, 90-degree turns (Square) and in tight
turns with the "1" mark. Activate it just before entering the turn.
4. It is better to slow down too much and lose 2 seconds on a turn than to risk
driving "on the edge" and losing more time on dragging the car out of the ditch
and later on repairs.
5. Start learning how to drive with the front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel
drive (AWD) cars and then move on to the rear-wheel drive (RWD) ones.
6. If the track is short (up to a few kilometers) - use soft tires with better grip.
7. It is better to brake too early than too late. What is important is how you exit the
turn, not how you enter it.
8. Start turning earlier - even before you enter the turn. Use the gas pedal to
balance the car and counter it with the steering wheel.

The small Mini will be the easiest to control. Its slow speed will allow you to learn all
about the types of turns and traps awaiting you on the track, but the front-wheel drive
will not allow you to master all of the driving techniques. Volkswagen Golf GTI 16V or
Peugeot 208 R2 are good choices for cheaper models. Then you should choose one of
the classics with the AWD - Subaru WRX STI or Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X. More on
cars can be found in the Best cars for the beginning chapter.
How to change the difficulty level in the
career mode?
You cannot change the difficulty level of the career mode in DiRT Rally 2.0. You
always start from the easiest "open". If you end up on the top three position at the end of
the race, you will advance to the higher level. If you perform poorly there, you will drop
to the lower level. More on the career mode can be found in the Career and Rally cross
mode chapter.
