249 / 2) “ وﺣﺳﱠﻧﻪ اﻷﻟﺑﺎﻧﻲ ﻓﻲ ”اﻟﺘﻌﻠﻴق اﻟﺮﻏﻴب، (3533 رﻗم، 5/544) )أﺧﺮﺟﻪ اﻟﺘﺮﻣذى
Anas narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﺻﻠﻰ ﷲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ و ﺳﻠمpassed by a tree whose
lea$es were dry% &e hit the tree with his s'(k and the lea$es of the tree s(a)ered% &e
(then) said: “Al &amdulillahi wa Subhaan Allaah wa La ilaha ilallaahu wa-Allaahu
Akbar - (this statement) remo$es sins from the sla$e of Allaah like the (falling) lea$es
of this tree%”
1% The Prophet ﺻﻠﻰ ﷲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ و ﺳﻠمused the most perfe(t example to illustrate a point,
whi(h was simple, (lear and easy to remember% This is the kind of example we should
employ when trying to (ommuni(ate points e5e('$ely%
2% Dhikr is the lifeline of a Muslim that leads to sal$a'on% Allaah ﺳﺑﺣﺎﻧﻪ و ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰsays:
"…and the men and the women who remember Allaah mu(h with their hearts and
tongues% Allaah has prepared for them forgi$eness and a great reward%" [transla'on
of al-Ahzab:35]
3% The Prophet ﺻﻠﻰ ﷲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ و ﺳﻠمsaid: “The example of the one who remembers his
Lord in (omparison with the one who does not remember his Lord is that of the li$ing
and the dead%” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
4% Allaah ﺳﺑﺣﺎﻧﻪ و ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰhas pro$ided in:nite ways and means to a)ain &is Mer(y and
;orgi$eness - through spee(h and a('on% An example amongst (ountless others:
- The Prophet ﺻﻠﻰ ﷲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ و ﺳﻠمsaid, “Whoe$er says ﺳﺑ َْﺣﺎنَ اﻟﻠّ ِﻪ وَ ِﺑ َﺣﻣْ ِد ِه
ُ (Subhan Allaahi
wa bi-&amdihi) one hundred 'mes a day, will be forgi$en all his sins e$en if they are
like the foam of the sea%" [Saheeh Bukhari, 8/414]

Dhikr - Lifeline of a Muslim
- The Prophet ﺻﻠﻰ ﷲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ و ﺳﻠمis reported to ha$e said, "Verily, when the
worshipper stands to pray, all of his sins are pla(ed on his head and shoulders, so
whene$er he bows or prostrates his sins fall o5 from him%" [Saheeh al-Jaami, no%
1671]
As Muslims, we must learn and seek the ways that lead to in(rease of good deeds
and remo$al of sins - thus leading to Allaah's Pleasure% And from amongst the easiest
and most pra('(al ways are through dhikr; memorising some adhkar and keeping out
tongues moist with them% What follows are some beau'ful and rewarding (olle('ons
of dhikr that ha$e been taken from the Sunnah of the Messenger
Whoe$er says (the abo$e) at morning and e$ening 'me, one hundred 'mes, none
shall (ome on the Day of Desurre('on with anything be)er ex(ept someone who has
said the same or more%[1]
Whoe$er says (the abo$e) a hundred 'mes during the day, his sins are wiped away,
e$en if they are like the foam of the sea%[2]
Abu Dharr reported that the Prophet ﺻﻠﻰ ﷲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ و ﺳﻠمsaid, "Shall I tell you the
words that Allah lo$es the most?" I said: "Yes, tell me, O Messenger of Allah%" &e
said: "The words dearest to Allah are: subhanAllah wa bihamdihi%[3]
A palm tree is planted for the re(iter [of the abo$e] in Paradise%[4]

َظ ِﻴم ْ ّ
ِ ﺳﺑ َْﺣﺎنَ اﻟﻠ ِﻪ اﻟﻌ ّ
ُ ، ﺳﺑ َْﺣﺎنَ اﻟﻠ ِﻪ وَ ِﺑ َﺣﻣْ ِد ِه
ُ - SubhanAllahi wa bi&amdihi, Subhan-Allahi
'l-`adheem (Glory be to Allah, and Praise, Glory be to Allah, the Supreme)
The Prophet ﺻﻠﻰ ﷲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ و ﺳﻠمsaid: "Two words are light on the tongue, weigh
hea$ily in the balan(e, they are lo$ed by the Most Mer(iful One%"[5]
Whoe$er re(ites [the abo$e] one &undred 'mes, a thousand good deeds are
re(orded for him or a thousand bad deeds are wiped away%[6]
ﻻ َﺣوْ َل وَ ﻻ ُﻗوﱠ َة ِا ﱠﻻ ِﺑﺎﻟﻠّ ِﻪ- La &awla wa la Juwa)a illa Billah (There is no Might or Power
ex(ept with Allah)
ُ وَ اﻟﻠّ ُﻪ َا ْﻛﺑَﺮ، وَ ﻻ ِاﻟ َﻪ ِا ﱠﻻ اﻟﻠّ ُﻪ، وا ْﻟ َﺣﻣْ دُﻟﻠّ ِﻪ، ﺳﺑ َْﺣﺎنَ اﻟﻠّ ِﻪ
ُ - SubhanAllah, wal&amdulilah, wa La
illaha ilAllahu, waAllahu Akbar (Glory be to Allah, All Praise is for Allah, There is No
God but Allah, Allah is the Greatest)
The abo$e are men'oned as the four most belo$ed words to Allah% It does not ma)er
with whi(h one of them is begun%[8]
Abu Sa`id reported that the Prophet ﺻﻠﻰ ﷲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ و ﺳﻠمsaid, "Perform the enduring
goods deeds (al-baaqiyaat al-Sali&aat) more frequently%" They asked, "What are
these enduring good deeds?" The Prophet replied: Takbir [Allahu Akbar], Tahlil [la
ilaha illallah], Tasbih [Subhan'Allah], alhamdulillah, and la hawla wa la quwwata illa
billah%[9]
ُ وَ اﻟﻠّ ُﻪ َا ْﻛﺑَﺮ، وَ ﻻ ِاﻟ َﻪ ِا ﱠﻻ اﻟﻠّ ُﻪ، وا ْﻟ َﺣﻣْ دُﻟﻠّ ِﻪ، ﺳﺑ َْﺣﺎنَ اﻟﻠّ ِﻪ
ُ - SubhanAllah, wal&amdulilah, wa La
illaha ilAllahu, waAllahu Akbar (Glory be to Allah, All Praise is for Allah, There is No
God but Allah, Allah is the Greatest)
The Prophet ﺻﻠﻰ ﷲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ و ﺳﻠمsaid: “;or me to say (the abo$e) is dearer to me and all

that the sun rises upon (ie the whole world)%”[10]
وَ ﻻ َﺣوْ َل وَ ﻻ ُﻗوﱠ َة ِا ﱠﻻ ِﺑﺎﻟﻠّ ِﻪ، ُ وَ اﻟﻠّ ُﻪ َا ْﻛﺑَﺮ، وَ ﻻ ِاﻟ َﻪ ِا ﱠﻻ اﻟﻠّ ُﻪ، وا ْﻟ َﺣﻣْ دُﻟﻠّ ِﻪ، ﺳﺑ َْﺣﺎنَ اﻟﻠّ ِﻪ
ُ - SubhanAllah,
wal&amdulilah, wa La illaha ilAllahu, waAllahu Akbar, wa la &awla wa la quwwata illa
billah (Glory be to Allah, All Praise is for Allah, There is No God but Allah, Allah is the
Greatest, There is no might or any power Ex(ept with Allah)

Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud reported that the Prophet ﺻﻠﻰ ﷲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ و ﺳﻠمsaid: "During the
Night Journey I met Ibrahim (alayhis salam) who said to me: ‘O Muhammad, (on$ey
my gree'ngs to your Pommunity, and tell them that the Paradise is of pure land, its
water is sweet, and its expanse is $ast, spa(ious and e$en% And its seedlings are
SubhanAllah, walhamdulilah, wa la ilaha ilAllah, waAllahu Akbar (the abo$e)%’”[11]
ا ْﻟ َﺣﻣْ دُﻟﻠّ ِﻪ- Alhamdulilah (All Praise is for Allah) - Verily the best suppli(a'on is
(abo$e)%[12]
Abu &uraira reported that the Prophet ﺻﻠﻰ ﷲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ و ﺳﻠمsaid: "When a ser$ant of
Allah u)ers the words la ilaha illallah (there is no God ex(ept Allah) sin(erely, the
doors of hea$en open up for these words un'l they rea(h the Throne of Allah, so
long as its u)erer keeps away from the maRor sins%”[14]

Abu &uraira reported that the Prophet ﺻﻠﻰ ﷲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ و ﺳﻠمsaid, "Denew your faith%"
"&ow (an we renew our faith?" they asked% The Prophet replied: "Say always: la ilaha
illallah%"[15]
ٌﺷﻲْ ٍء َﻗدِﻳﺮ
َ َﻟ ُﻪ ا ْﻟ ُﻣ ْﻠكُ وَ َﻟ ُﻪ ا ْﻟ َﺣﻣْ ُد وَ ُھوَ ﻋَ َﻠﻰ ُﻛ ِ ّل، ﺷ ِﺮﻳكَ َﻟ ُﻪ
َ ﻻ ِاﻟ َﻪ ِا ﱠﻻ اﻟﻠّ ُﻪ وَ ْﺣ َد ُه ﻻ- La illaha ilAllahu,
wa&dahu la shareeka lahu, lahul Mulku, wa lahul &amd, wa &uwa ala kulli shaiy'in
Jadeer (There is No God But Allah Alone, who has no partner% &is is the dominion
and &is is the raise, and &e is Able to do all things)
Whoe$er says the abo$e ten 'mes, will ha$e the reward for freeing four sla$es from
the Phildren of Isma'il %[16]
ٌﺷﻲْ ٍء َﻗدِﻳﺮ
َ َﻟ ُﻪ ا ْﻟ ُﻣ ْﻠكُ وَ َﻟ ُﻪ ا ْﻟ َﺣﻣْ ُد وَ ُھوَ ﻋَ َﻠﻰ ُﻛ ِ ّل، ﺷ ِﺮﻳكَ َﻟ ُﻪ
َ ﻻ ِاﻟ َﻪ ِا ﱠﻻ اﻟﻠّ ُﻪ وَ ْﺣ َد ُه ﻻ- La illaha ilAllahu,
wa&dahu la shareeka lahu, lahul Mulku, wa lahul &amd, wa &uwa ala kulli shaiy'in
Jadeer (There is No God But Allah Alone, who has no partner% &is is the dominion
and &is is the raise, and &e is Able to do all things)
Whoe$er says the abo$e one &undred 'mes, has the reward of freeing ten sla$es, a
hundred good deeds are re(orded for him and a hundred bad deeds are wiped away
and he has gained refuge from the de$il that day un'l e$ening and none shall (ome
with anything be)er ex(ept someone who has done more%[17]
Whoe$er says the words abo$e ten 'mes, then 40,000 (forty thousand) good deeds
will be re(orded for him%[18]
Whoe$er says the abo$e words, Allah will forgi$e him e$en if he deserted the army's
ranks%[19]
ﺷ ِﺮ ﻣَﺎ َ ْ أﻋُو ُذ ِﺑكَ ِﻣن، ُﺳ َﺘطَﻌْت ْ ﺧَ َﻠ ْﻘ َﺘ ِﻧﻰ وَ أ َﻧﺎ ﻋَ ْﺑدُكَ وَ أ َﻧﺎ ﻋَ َﻠﻰ ﻋَ ْﮫ ِدكَ ﻣﺎ ا، ت َ ﻻ َأ ْﻧ
َ ﻻ ِإﻟ َﻪ ِإ َ اﻟﻠﱠ ُﮫ ﱠم َأ ْﻧ
َ ت رَ ِﺑّﻰ
تَ ﻓﺈﻧﱠ ُﻪ ﻻَ َﻳ ْﻐﻔِﺮُ اﻟ ﱡذﻧُوبَ ِإ ﱠﻻ َأ ْﻧ َأﺑُو ُء َﻟكَ ِﺑ ِﻧ ْﻌ َﻣﺘِكَ ﻋَ َﻠ ﱠ، ﺻَ َﻧﻌْت- Allahumma anta
ْ ﻰ وَ أﺑُو ُء ِﺑ َذ ْﻧﺑﻰ َﻓ
ِ ﺎﻏ ِﻔﺮْ ِﻟﻰ
Dabbi la ilaha illa anta, Anta Khalaqtani wa ana abduka, wa ana 'ala ahdika wa
wa'dika mastata'tu, A'udhu bika min Sharri ma sana'tu, abu'u Laka bini'ma'ka
'alaiya, wa Abu Laka bidhanbi fagh:rli innahu la yagh:ru adhdhunuba illa anta (O
Allah! You are my Lord! None has the right to be worshipped but You% You (reated me
and I am Your sla$e, and I am faithful to my (o$enant and my promise as mu(h as I
(an% I seek refuge with You from all the e$il I ha$e done% I a(knowledge before You all
the blessings You ha$e bestowed upon me, and I (onfess to You all my sins% So I
entreat You to forgi$e my sins, for nobody (an forgi$e sins ex(ept You%)
The abo$e du'a is known as the Sayyid al-Is'ghfar and is the most superior way of
asking for forgi$eness from Allah% Whoe$er says it during the day with :rm faith in it,
and dies on the same day before the e$ening, he will be from the people of Paradise;
and if somebody re(ites it at night with :rm faith in it, and dies before the morning,
he will be from the people of Paradise%[20]
If someone implements ten $erses of the Jur'an, &e/She will not be (onsiderate
amongst the negligent on the Day of Judgment%[21]
If someone implements one hundred $erses of the Jur'an, &e/She will be (onsidered
among the obedient on the Day of Judgment%[22]
If someone implements one thousand $erses of the Jur'an, &e/She will be amongst
the extremely ri(h on the Day of Judgement%[23]
