Vision for Opera Installation Guide

Before You Begin


Step 1: Before Installing Vision

1. Read this Vision Installation Guide.

2. Check for any recent Installation Updates.

3. Obtain a copy of the tnsnames.ora file containing the correct connection


information for your site.

4. Download a copy of the following to a temp directory on your local drive;


- latest version of Vision Software (6.2.4 as at October 2005)
- latest C39 serduct zip file (Version 03 001 Beta 3 as at October 2005)

5. Make sure all other windows programs are shut down


Installation Steps

Step 2: Run Vision Setup


1. Access the temp directory on you local drive which contains the latest version of Vision.
(or access from CD is applicable)

Click on Setup.exe to start installing Vision.

Install Vision
1. Select the installation language and click OK.

The installation language is independent of the language Vision operates in.


The Vision InstallShield Wizard is displayed.

2. Screen will say Preparing Vision Setup and then “Welcome to the InstallShield for
Vision”.
Click Next.
3. Select ‘Custom’ installation and then Next

4. Click the Browse button if you wish to modify Vision’s destination folder.
To accept the default location, Click Next

5. Change the Vision Application Options to match the example below then click Next.

6. Click Next.

7. Vision Software will be installed.

8. When complete, the system will ask you to select the directory to install the serduct

Click OK

Click CANCEL on Browse for folder as the serduct will be installed manually.
Click CANCEL on Update Serducts.

Click FINISH on the Connection Wizard

Click CANCEL on the Client Setup

Click Finish
Step 3: Connection to Databases

All new clients will need to create a connection between;


• The Vision software and the Vision centralized database
• The Vision software and the MICROS-Opera Product database

Vision Software -> Vision Database Connection


The following procedure points the Vision software to the Vision database.
1. Select Start -> Programs -> Vision -> Maintenance

2. Enter the Maintenance password (if applicable) and click on OK.

3. Click on Client Setup


4. Check the Vision product then select Database = ORACLE

5. For Oracle databases create a non-DSN connection.

In the Data Source Field box type the server name that holds the Vision database.
Precede the name with an asterisk ( * ).
This is the name as defined in your tnsnames.ora

e.g. based on the tnsnames example below you would enter *vision in the Data
Source Name

6. Type in the Vision database User ID and Password.
e.g. vision / vision (this represents the schema name you are accessing)
The user requires read and write access permissions to Vision database tables.

7. Click the Test Connection button.


Vision checks whether it can access the data source.
If successful the ‘ODBC connection test passed’ message is displayed and the
indicator
turns green.

If the test fails, the indicator turns red with a white cross.
Vision Software -> MICROS-Opera Product Database
Connection

Prior to creating the connection, you need to copy the C39 serduct to your local
machine.

To do this;
1. Copy the zipped C39 file to a temporary directory

2. Unzip the C39 file to c:\program files\vision\settings\

The unzipped files end up in the c:\Program Files\Vision\Settings\LsAlchemy\C39 as


shown below

The following procedure points the Vision software to the MICROS-Opera Product
database.
As with the Vision database, create a non-DSN connection to the Opera database.
1. Select the MICROS Opera Product
2. Select Database Type = Oracle
3. In the Data Source Field box type the server name that holds the Opera
database, as defined in you tnsnames.ora
Precede the name with an asterisk ( * ). E.g. *OPERA

4. Type in the Product database User ID and Password.

5. Click the Test Connection button.


Vision checks whether it can access the data source.
If successful the ‘ODBC connection test passed’ message is displayed and the
indicator
turns green.

If the test fails, the indicator turns red with a white cross.

6. Click the SAVE button then EXIT to leave Client Setup.


Custom Server Install Application
NOTE: DO NOT COMPLETE THIS STEP UNLESS A NON-INVASIVE INSTALLATION HAS
BEEN ESTABLISHED WITH YOUR OPERA DATABASE AND YOU ARE ALSO UPDATING THE
OPERA SERDUCT

If the Install button is displayed execute the Custom Install Application.


The Install button is displayed if the selected Product is provided with a Custom
Install
Application. A Custom Install Application is designed specifically for the Product and
its
Serduct. It may assist in applying appropriate security settings, table configuration or
connection details. Please review the Installation Addendum documentation for your
Serduct for information about the Custom Install Application.

Click the Install button to activate the Serduct's Custom Install Application.

Testing Vision
The final step is to test whether Vision can extract data from the Product data source.
1. Start Microsoft Excel.
2. On the Vision menu, click Logon.
1. If the Vision menu does not appear, the Vision XL add-in needs to be loaded
manually
2. Enter the User ID of an allocated user. Leave password field blank.
3. Click OK. Vision XL logs on.
4. Open a sample Vision report
Extract a report definition.
5. If a report is generated, Vision has been successfully installed.
Please refer to the Vision online help on how to configure Vision users, profiles and
assign
passwords.
Chinese Characters
In order to input Chinese characters into Vision the correct Microsoft Windows locale
environment should be set. Microsoft Windows locale settings are made in the
Regional and
Language Options utility in Control Panel.
To input:
• Simplified Chinese characters: set the default locale to Chinese (PRC) or
Chinese
(Singapore) using Simplified Chinese Vision.
• Traditional Chinese characters: set the default locale to Chinese (Taiwan),
Chinese
(HKSAR) or Chinese (Macau SAR) using English or Traditional Chinese Vision.
