Introduction
Extracurricular activities used to describe extra activities that can be done by the
students in a school but that are not part of the regular schedule of classes. Engaging
yourself in new activities with new people is a fun way to challenge yourself. You get to
explore your physical, creative, social, political and career interests with like-minded
people.
In school, not only academics is important you might as well involve yourself in
extracurricular activities that will help in building self-esteem and team work. Does
sometimes we put too much attention on something and just focus on that thing. This is
why for some student extracurricular activities is a distraction. Remember, it’s important
to keep a balance between schoolwork and extracurricular activities. As they said, “Too
much of everything is not good.” Balancing this both will not only help you in school
students. On others they tend to balance their time in academics and extracurricular
activities while others consider this a distraction. They tend to focus on one thing. Based

on their experience we get to know their perspective that will help in shaping the key of
how can they manage their academics and extracurricular activities together.

An extracurricular activity is not always a sport it can also include clubs and
organizations as well as cheerleading, dance, band and the arts. Even though remaining
active is beneficial for a child overall growth and development too much of it is not good

on the topic. Therefore, the final analysis whether extracurricular activities have an effect

survey or questionnaire but also whether the extracurricular activity is a school or non-
school based activity, the amount of time spent on the activity, the age of the children and
the socio-economical level of the students. Therefore, there are different variables that
Extracurricular activities are activities that students participate in that do not fall into the
realm of normal curriculum of schools. They are found in all levels of our schools. There
are many forms of extracurricular activities such as sports, clubs, governance, student
newspaper, music, art, and drama. Extracurricular activities are totally voluntary so
students that do not want to participate in them do not have to. Lunen burg states in his
article that “Extracurricular activities serve the same goals and functions as the required
and elective courses in the curriculum. However, they provide experiences that are not
included in formal courses of study. They allow students to apply the knowledge that
they have learned in other classes and acquire concepts of democratic life.”(2010, 2)
Extracurricular activities have many positive effects on education. The positive effects
that extracurricular activities have on students are behavior, better grades, school
Researchers found the activity a child participates in does not matter as long as the
child gets involved and stays involved. While it’s been shown that children in the
performance arts and music area have higher levels of school involvement, Dr. Hughes
added, “if you’re looking at children’s change in school involvement and achievement, it
is kids who are in athletics and sports that are most likely to benefit in terms of their
being engaged in or part of a peer group that will support their academic achievement.”

RESEARCH DESIGN
Method of Research
The descriptive survey method of research was used in this study wherein the

The method of research which concerns itself with the present phenomena
termed as “descriptive survey study”. According to Dr. Y.P. Aggarwal (2008) descriptive
situations for the purpose of description and interpretation. This type of research method
is not simply amassing and tabulating facts but includes proper analyses, interpretation,
Sources of Data
For the study purpose both primary and secondary data are used in order to come
up with accurate and objective findings. The primary data is collected from the grade 7
students. The secondary data is collected from books and articles from computer. The
primary and secondary data have been collected to cover every aspect of the study.

Primary data is a term for data collected at source. This type of information is
obtained directly from first hand resources by means of surveys, observations and

This study was conducted at Clarice Angels School located at Salay, Mangaldan,
Pangasinan. It was founded in 2001 by Dr. Florentina A. Manongdo and Dr. Edna N.
Peralta.
The respondents of this study were the thirty selected grade 7 students for the S.Y.
Grade 7 students the researcher used the method of survey by handing out questionnaires
to the respondents and that way information can be extracted for the research.
The reliability and validity of the research instrument was measured by having it
pre-tested to the grade 10 students of Clarice Angels School. Five (5) students were asked

The researcher first sought the approbation of the high school principal of Clarice
