as Motivation in Science 5
Charlene M. Ypil
With the desire to motivate the grade five pupils in learning Science , this study looked
into the effect of using video presentation as motivation in the learning process. The
“Students Perspectives Sheet” and Interview are used to gather students’ perceptions
about how the video presentation motivated them and how much learning was retained.
Before the intervention was done, the pupils were asks on how they are motivated in the
science subject. At the start of the intervention, the pupils were then exposed to varied
video presentation before the discussion of the concept. Results revealed that the pupils
were eager to attend the Science subject and increased the interaction among students.
The findings suggest that video presentation is effective as it can help increase the
performance of the grade five pupils in Science 5.

This study is geared towards the welfare of the students and teachers through video
presentations because with motivation, there is attention. Thus, the researcher believed
that the video presentation can help increase the performance of the grade five pupils in

Methodology
This is a qualitative study which aims to develop the motivational aspect of the grade
5 pupils in learning Science for the 4 th grading period. The action research is conducted
at Pagsabungan Elementary School, Pagsabungan Mandaue City. The school is a regular
learning institution where kindergarten until grade six pupils are sheltered.
The research respondents are 42 Grade 5 Verity pupils under the Science class of Ms.
Charlene M. Ypil.
Before the intervention was done, the 50% of grade 5 pupils were asks on how they
are motivated in the science subject using the Students Perspective Sheet structured by
the teacher. At the start of the intervention, the pupils were then exposed to varied video
presentation before the discussion of the concept. The used of technology like the video
presentations is the treatment given.
After the intervention, the teacher asks the 50% of the pupils’ perception using the
“Students Perspective Sheet”. It contains three statements to be filled in with information
which seeks to give the students perception on the activity and whether they liked the
video presentation.
The results were tabulated, analyzed and discussed.
Results and Discussion:
This action research is focused only on the perception of the motivational aspect of the
grade five pupils in attending Science class before and after the intervention was done.
Table 1 reflects the perception of the grade pupils before and after the intervention was done.
