NUTRITION MONTH (NARRATIVE REPORT)

I. Introduction

Health is wealth. Health involves not only physical but mental, emotional and
social health. Human body can’t function properly without proper diet and literally can’t
be productive in all aspects of life. Healthy students are more engaged, alert, and
better, able to concentrate and learn; setting students up for success in the classroom
and beyond.

July was set to celebrate Nutrition Month in our country. It is done yearly by
third or fourth week of the said month. Pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 491 or the
Nutrition Act of the Philippines in celebration of the 2019 Nutrition Month Celebration
with the theme “Kumain ng Wasto at Maging Aktibo…Push Natin To!” which aims to
practice healthy diet, eat right foods such as grow, glow, go and engage in regular
physical activity, highlighting the importance of healthy diet and regular physical
exercise to achieve good health, reduce, to reduce overweight, obesity and non-
communicable diseases.

In line with the foregoing, all teachers, students, parents and guardians
participated the activities for the whole month. During the whole month celebration, we
had the following activities. By first day of the month during flag ceremony we
conducted a kick-off or launching. We posted a tarpaulin, so as to inform the students
about the year’s theme and further announced some activities. By July 12, we
conducted the Poster Making Contest divided into three categories. Category A was
solely for kindergarten level, category B was Grade 2 to Grade 3, and then lastly
Category C is for Grades 4- 6. The chairman for the said activities were Sir Isagani
Cagaanan and maam Gracelda G. Untal, members are Maribel Lambojo, Tita
Agravante, Jean Polison, Rechell Manalili and Reviresa Dulay. The students gave
their best and truly they had crafted creative posters. Furthermore every Fridays, every
classroom had cooking activity. We conducted cooking nutrition foods in every classes
this is to promote a well-balance diet and healthy body for students. Health involves
not only physical but mental, emotional and social health. Eating the right food
produces Healthy students that are more engaged, alert, and better able to
concentrate and learn.

Zumba dance for a Cause was also conducted every Wednesdays and in two
sessions, 7AM-8AM for morning shift and 3PM- 4PM for afternoon shift. This is
intended for the whole month of July. This activity promotes healthy active lifestyle to
learners since proper exercise and healthy diet that produces active learners. The
chairman of this event are Maam Maribel Lambojo and Maam Charmae Gales.

Moreover, last July 26, 2019 we also had “Nutri Quiz Bee Contest”. Through
this activity, the cognitive domain of students were nurtured and developed, they learned
several nutrients/vitamins and minerals needed in the body. This will surely help them on
what food to intake and to have a healthy and well sound body. Furthermore, each
classroom has one representative and is divided into two categories. Category A is
from Grade 1 to Grade 3, wherein the leading chairman is Maam Theresa Cagaanan.
The members are the following teachers: Maam Jennifer Bual, Lorena Agcang,
Rowena Panaligan,Tita Agravante and Maam Mirasol Maasin.

During the culmination day, that was last July 31, 2019, Wednesday, we had
separate activities for morning and afternoon. In the morning we started the program with
a national anthem conducted by Maam Madelene Estolas and followed by a prayed led
by Maam Shela Diaz. The masters of ceremonies on that day were Maam Kristine Paulete
Rosaroso and Maam Julie Annie Camasure who nailed a substantial introduction
anchored to the Nutrition Month’s theme. Then, an opening remarks from Maam Maria
Lucille O. Mejias, where she reminded the kids to have regular exercise and eat right
foods. Pupils were very active and participative during that day. Ever students wore their
best nutria-hat/visor where in you would be fascinated by their different creative designs.
Then, we had a great opening salvo from the kindergartens’ nutri-fashion. Everyone was
surprised to see beautiful and dashing kids wearing their authentic and resourceful gowns
inspired by our nutrition’s theme. The panel of judge were the academic teachers namely
Maam Rowena Panaligan, Maam Josephine Basuga and Sir Isagani Cagaanan.The
champion for nutria-fashion pupil under the advisory of Maam Julie Annie Roperos.

Then, we had a fruit and vegetable display per grade level and simultaneously we
had food bazaar. Every teachers were giving their best to produce organize and enticing

table displays. By 10 o’clock the table displays were judge and results showed that the
winner for the said event was the grade four level. Second was the grade 1 team and 3rd
place was the grade two level. It was a tight competition indeed since all grade levels had
great entries for this contest.

Nutrition Month Culmination held at Los Amigos Elementary School last July 31, 2019.
