Abstract
The Roads bring about all-round development in the region. A good
road network helps in the success of all development activities. It is in the sphere of
movement of people and goods, agriculture, commerce, education, health, and social welfare,
or even maintenance of law and order and security. Training period contains the development
process of the Highway Project. This project simplifies the movement of the vehicles during
the Guru Purnima mela 2019 at Ambaji (Gujarat). Palanpur to ambaji four lane Road
(“Project Road”) situated in northen part of gujarat, having total length of 71.00 Km
including 01Major Bridge, 03 Minor Bridges, 02 ROBs, 30 Pipe Culverts & 11 Box Culverts.
Maruti & apex tarmac pvt. Ltd. Ambaji has been awarded the project through Road &
building Development Corporation. The production of a good piece of technical writing for a
project traning report is as much a part of the project as doing the experimental work.
However excellent and original a piece of work the project may be, unless the results can be
communicated to other people it may as well not have been done.

This report contains the following information:

 Flexible pavements construction.

 GSB , WMM , earthwork, BC and other layers information.

1.4 Detail of transportation activity including equipment used:-

 Measure tape :-
It’s used for measurements.

 Thedolite(total station):-
they are mainly used by land surveyors and civil engineers,
either to record features as in topographic surveying

 Milling Machines:-
A top layer is milled off the existing pavement to provide a relatively
smooth surface on which to pave.

12
 Grader:-
A grader is an earthmoving machine either self propelled or towed by a
tractor used for light and medium excavation work.

 Crusher:-
The type of machine used for crushing the stones or ballast is known as
crusher.

 Dump truck:-
Dumper is a lorry which can be emptied by raising the front of the
carrier to allow the contents to slide out from the back.

 Paver machine:-

13
 Bulldoger:-
commonly used machine of highway construction industry used for
leveling & clearing land . It is a heavy tractor with vertical blade at the front used for
various operations:

 Shovel:-
Shovel is the most powerful and giant excavating machinery includes power shovels.
It is one of the most versatile equipment used in the construction of highways
especially for earth work.

 Roller:-
A roller provided with a no. of tyres is termed as rubber tyred roller. A
simple rubber tyred roller consists of a small truck having two or more axles with a
no. of attached rubber tyred wheels.

14
 Bitumen boiler:-
The machine used for supply hot bitumen at the required temprature in a continuous
system is known as bitumen boiler.

 Bitumen sprayer:-
The machine which is used to spray or sprinkle bitumen on the surface in desired
quantity is known as bitumen sprayer.

1.6 Material used in particular activities :-

 Sub-grade:-

The sub-grade material should be clean and free from organic matter and should be able to be
compacted by roller. Material like natural soil

 Sub-base Course:-
It is layer of granular material provided above sub-grade generally natural gravel. It is usually
not provided on sub-grade of good quality.
The materials used may be either unbound granular. (Unbound granular materials like stone,
crushed slag or concrete, or slate.)

17
 Base Course:
it is the layer immediately under the wearing surface (Applied whether the wearing surface is
bituminous or cement concrete and whether its a thick or thin bituminous layer).
LA Abrasion test

 Surface Course:-
The top layers of pavement which is in direct contact with the wheel of the vehicle. Usually
constructed of material in which bitumen is used as binder materials.
Bituminous Pavement: (Flexible Pavement)

18
(TAR) :- 2

2.1 Construction of Pavement Layers

 Pavement layers construction is classified into three

1) Sub base layer

2) Base course layer

3) Bitumen layer

 Sub base layer

 The construction of sub base layer follows the following procedure.

 Proportioning of natural soil testing

 Proctor compaction, CBR and gradation tests are taken on the mixed sub base
material to check whether the proportion satisfies sub base materials are transported to
the site.

 The surveyor using five pegs per station.

 The two materials are showered by the water truck and mixed based on the laboratory
proportion by the grader.

 The optimum moisture content is checked by the foreman.

 Field density test is taken after compaction to know degree of compaction with
respect to the maximum dry density.

 Base course layer

 The construction of base course layer follows the following procedure.

 After sub base construction is completed, base course material is transported from the
nearest source to the site.

 The surveyor using five pegs per station.

 The material is laid by the grader above the sub base layer by the grader and it is
showered by the water track.

19
 The material is compacted by the steel roller until the required degree of compaction
is obtained.

 The thickness of the layer is checked by the surveyor.

 All test checked like CBR

 Field density test is taken after compaction to know whether the base course layer
attains the required degree of compaction or not.

 After all requirements are fulfilled, the base course construction is approved.

 Prime coat
 It’s will be start and intership time will be end.

20
2.2 Longitudinal section:-

 When driving down an interstate, spotting longitudinal joints can either be quite
difficult or fairly easy.
 They are typically masked by pavement markings or clearly visible by a distinctive
crack right down the middle of two lanes. A longitudinal joint is the contact point
where two asphalt lanes meet.
 It is the most important portion of the paving process due to its nature and role in the
structure. In order to achieve an efficient joint proper density must be achieved.
 “Density is the compaction percentage of the material”Neglecting proper joint
construction practices can cause major issues on a project, leading to poor
performance and unhappy motorists.
 There are many techniques used in the industry to maintain a high level of quality
along longitudinal joints.

21
2.3 Cross sections & geometric designs :-

 The physical features of road are known as road geometrics. Soo many topic are
included.
1) Cross section of highway eiements
2) Speed of road vehicles
3) Sight distances
4) Curves
5) Super elevation
This phase of highway design which deal with the different highway is called “geometrical
design of highway” Cross section of highway eiements
 Carriageway:-
A carriageway is one side of a road on which traffic travelling in opposite directions is
separated by a barrier.
 Shoulder designs:-
the region of the body of nonhuman vertebrates that corresponds to the shoulder but is less
projecting

 camber:-
A camber is a gradual downward slope from the centre of a road to each side of it.
 Gradient:-
change in the value of a quantity (such as temperature, pressure, or concentration) with
change in a given variable and especially per unit distance in a specified direction.
 Speed of road vehicles:-
The maximum safe speed of vehicle assumed for geometric design of highway is speed of
road vehicles.
 Sight distance:-
The length of the road clearly visible to the driver on either horizontal or curves is known as
sight distance.
 Curves:-
At the change in alignment or gradient of a road geometrically arcs are provided. That
geometrical arc is called curves
 Super elevation:-The rise given to the outer edge of a road above the inner edge
on curves is known super elevation.

22
2.4 Material used in particular activities :-

 Sub-grade:-
The sub-grade material should be clean and free from organic matter and should be
able to be compacted by roller. Material like natural soil

 Sub-base Course:-
It is layer of granular material provided above sub-grade generally natural gravel. It is
usually not provided on sub-grade of good quality.
The materials used may be either unbound granular. (Unbound granular materials
like stone, crushed slag or concrete, or slate.)

23
 Base Course:
it is the layer immediately under the wearing surface (Applied whether the wearing
surface is bituminous or cement concrete and whether its a thick or thin bituminous
layer).
LA Abrasion test

 Surface Course:-
The top layers of pavement which is in direct contact with the wheel of the vehicle.
Usually constructed of material in which bitumen is used as binder
materials.Bituminous Pavement: (Flexible Pavement)
