BACKGROUNDER

Royal University Hospital (RUH) Services Moving to JPCH


Saskatchewan Health Authority will have additional leadership and volunteers on site to support and direct
patients and families during this important move.

Emergency Services
 As of 6 a.m., Sunday, September 29, children’s emergency and RUH adult emergency will open at
Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital. Emergency at Royal University Hospital is moving to JPCH.
 The new walk-in emergency entrance is located about 100 meters from the current entrance. There
is a drop-off zone outside the new entrance, and parking is available in the parkade.
 Emergency at City Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital is also available. Saskatoon City Hospital hours:
9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and St. Paul’s Hospital is open 24 hours.
Maternal Inpatient Units (Labour and Delivery, Postpartum, Antepartum)
Pregnant Women
 Women who go into labour or require urgent pregnancy-related care should continue to access maternal
care through the 1955 entrance at Royal University Hospital until 6:00 a.m. on September 29.
 After 6:00 a.m. September 29, women should come to Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital and go to the third
floor to the Maternal Care Centre. You can enter the new hospital from the 5th floor of the parkade.
 Please follow the signs on site, and be sure your support person knows this important date.
 If you have a scheduled caesarean section or ultrasound appointment, you will come to the 3rd floor
of JPCH as of Monday, September 30.
Maternal Patients admitted prior to September 29 (Postpartum, Antepartum)
 Each patient’s care team will decide when a woman and her baby will be moved.
 Patients will begin moving starting 7:00 a.m. September 29 and will continue into the afternoon.
 To help ensure patient safety, visitor access will be limited during the move period.
 Consider having only 1-2 support persons present. If on site, additional persons may wait in the RUH
cafeteria or mall area.
Maternal Outpatient Clinic and Maternal Fetal Unit
 As of Monday, September 30, the Maternal Outpatient Clinic and Maternal Fetal (ultrasound) Unit
will no longer be in Royal University Hospital. These will be located on the 3rd floor of Jim Pattison
Children’s Hospital.
 Please pay close attention to the location of your next appointment. Clinic phone numbers will not
change.
Acute Care Pediatrics, Pediatric High Acuity Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU) and Neonatal
Intensive Care (NICU)
 Patients will begin moving starting 7:00 a.m. September 29 and will continue into the afternoon.
 Each patient’s care team will decide when a patient will be moved.
 To help ensure patient safety, visitor access will be limited during the move period.
 Consider having only 1-2 support persons present. If on site, additional persons may wait in the RUH
cafeteria or mall area.

Pediatric Outpatient Clinic
 As of Monday, September 30, most pediatric outpatient clinics will no longer be in Royal University
Hospital, and will be located on the main floor of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.
 Patient letters will indicate the location of your appointment.
 Please pay close attention to the location of your next appointment. Clinic phone numbers will not
change.
Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Patients – Saskatoon Cancer Centre
 Patients who currently receive care at the Pediatric Oncology clinic at the Saskatoon Cancer Centre will
now receive this care at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.
 This clinic will move and be open at JPCH as of Monday, September 30.
 The new clinic location is at the Pediatric Day Medicine and Oncology Department on the main floor of the
new hospital, adjacent to the Pediatric Outpatient Clinic
 JPCH is located next to the Saskatoon Cancer Centre. You can enter the new hospital from the 5th floor
of the parkade.
Pediatric Surgery
 Emergency and scheduled pediatric surgeries will begin at JPCH as of Monday, September 30.
 If there is an emergency pediatric surgery on September 29, that will occur at the Royal University Hospital
Operating Room. Patients will then be admitted after surgery and moved to the new pediatric unit at
JPCH.
 Surgical patients will register in the Pediatric Surgery Department which is located on the ground floor of
JPCH. The entire operative journey will take place in the department for all stages of their care.
 All pediatric surgery at Royal University Hospital and pediatric eye surgery at Saskatoon City Hospital,
along with the majority of pediatric surgery at St. Paul’s Hospital, will now occur within JPCH.
 If patients have questions, they can refer to the information they received from their surgeon’s office or
contact the office directly.
