I hate to say it, but the number one way to beprepared for any software interview is to
interview... *a lot*. There’s acertain level of mystery and intimidation around software
interviews that canonly be overcome by feeling as though you’ve seen it all. The more
that you putyourself out there, in the various ways in which developers are likely to
findjob openings (and eventually jobs), the more prepared you’ll feel when you
findthat job you really, really want. If you’re interested in how to go aboutfinding
openings, this answer does a good job and works for non-start-up as well asnon-NYC-
based jobs, IMO.

That said, if you’re already interviewing forthat company you love, here’s a few ways I
prepare for every interview:

Do you research

The first thing I do is research thecompany I’m interviewing with the hopes of finding
some informationonline about the style of their interviews. GeeksforGeeks | A
computer science portal for geeks is a great sitefor interview prep in general, but
I’m particularly fond of using it to searchfor interview experiences by company. If you
can find the company you’reinterviewing with, having an idea of their interview style
(i.e. – do they asCS type questions or do they ask puzzles? Is their style whiteboarding
or pairprogramming?) can help you study more effectively.

If you can’t find any interview-specificinformation online, you can usually get a
decent idea of what type of interviewyou’ll be walking into by considering what the
company does and the engineersthat are already employed there. Are you
