The Problem and Its Background

Introduction

Most of the existing business joints in the area of Boac, Marinduque are those established
by affiliated locals. According to Griffin and Ebert (1996), business is an organization that
provides goods or services in order to earn profit. In an online article, it is one of the major
source for economic growth. To further develop the economic status of the province, it should
provide variety and be open for residency of commercial businesses in the field of endeavour.

Boac, specifically the Municipality of Boac, is a first class municipality and capital of the
province of Marinduque, Philippines. It is primarily home to most of the province’s commercial
businesses for it is an area that is highly populated and visited by the residents. There are lots of
schools that are situated in the locale where the research is to be conducted. In line to this, there
are many students and consumers who need school supplies and books for future and academic
purposes. Therefore, the researchers decided to conduct a study to administer a justifiable
certification whether province of Marinduque could or could not manage and/or is qualified in
constituting a National Bookstore in Boac, Marinduque. All the needed information such as the
calculated stock, allocation of expenses and other findings would be specified.

The present research will be a basis in distributing supplementary information that will be
needed in plotting the said business in the research locale. The results from this study will serve
as the investor’s/owner’s guideline in establishing the commercial business.
General Statement of the Problem

The researchers conducted this feasibility study to determine whether it is manageable

and possible to put up a National Bookstore in Boac, Marinduque. This study have identified the
necessary information and determined the willingness of the consumers and if the consumers can
provide the income in a relatively long period of time.

Sub-questions

In line to the general statement of the problem, this feasibility study sought to answer the
following questions:

 Will it be feasible to establish a book store in Boac, Marinduque?

 What is the demographic profile of the consumers?
 Will the consumers patronize or show interest in the business based on their individual
preferences?
 What are the possible strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the business?
 What are the factors that the consumers consider in buying supplies?
 Would the business gain profit after investing in the business? If so, how long would it
take?
 What would the business be after 5 years?

Significance of the Study

This research study focuses on ascertaining if assembling the said business can be made
possible. The result of the study would benefit the following constituents:

Municipality of Boac, to give opportunity in accumulating income that will lead to the
continuous growth of the area’s economic development. This will also be a step in opening to
other local businesses in the province of Marinduque.
 Investors, who will serve as provider of capital needed, to provide valid and objective
information such as statistics, before fully committing to the business.

Owner, who is responsible for opening the business, to gain profit and be able to
compete with other stores which corresponds and is parallel to the said business.

Consumers, who are the most essential participants in this research study, to appease the
necessity for good quality of school and office supplies needed in academic communities. This is
also to lessen their expenses, time, and effort in buying that is allotted for their travel
expenditures.

Future researchers, to supply background details by obtaining data from the conducted
research study. Having this as their guide would help the researchers in dealing with the
problems that may arise in their study.

Scope and Delimitation

This research study dealt on the feasibility of operating a National Bookstore in Boac,
Marinduque. The researchers only covered the possible results of the study such as the
willingness of the consumers, the possible strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
allocation of expenditures, and the factors that consumers consider in buying supplies. The
researchers weren’t able to calculate the given factors due to the insufficient time and doing so
would distance the researchers from the stated general objectives.

The researchers solely based their conclusion directly to the findings. The study may be
delimited only if the respondents declined to be part of the study to be conducted. The feasibility
study was conducted from November 2018 to March 2019.
