network. Explain why? So what constitutes a network?

and wide area networks (WANs), and backbone networks (BNs)?

5. What roles do SMTP, POP, and IMAP play is sending and receiving emails on the
Internet?

6. Suppose your organisation was contemplating switching from host-based

architecture to client-server architecture, discuss two possible problems would you
foresee?

7. Some experts argue that thin-client client-server architectures are really host-
based architecture in disguise and suffer from the same old problems. Do you
agree? Explain.

8. Discuss ant two trends in telecommunications today. In you discussions, explain

how the layered model of the network model has influenced this trends.

Complete the activity through to the end on page 25. On page 24, replace the website
(www.iana.org) on activity 3 with any other website that you haven’t visited before.
