NARRATIVE REPORT ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF REMEDIAL INSTRUCTION IN


IDENTIFYING LETTER SOUND FOR KINDERGARTEN

I. Introduction

Kindergarten entering-class level of elementary school or the last year of


preschool. Kindergarten programs emphasize creative play, social interaction, and
natural expression. They also teach social skills and provide children with an academic
foundation for first grade.

Kindergarten students are typically four or five years of age. In class, they
are introduced to the alphabet, after introducing the alphabet the letter sound will be
follow. Knowing the letter sound they can easily know how to read.

Objective:

 Identify the letter sound

There are 23 boys and 29 girls in kindergarten class. As of July 2015, 30


pupils can identify the letters sound alphabet. And the 22 pupils can’t identify the
letters, so that we had a remedial instruction for those students have difficulties for
identifying the letter sound. The beneficiaries are those students have difficulty in
identifying letter sounds.

I conducted a remedial instruction after class’s hour. And I’m using


instructional materials such as pictures, letter cards and charts, for making pupils can
easily identify.

II. Improvement of the Remediation:

After a month, I conducted a reading inventory (sound recognition) I’ve


notice there is an improvement for doing remedial instruction that we had after class
hour with the instructional materials used, but some are still can’t identify the letter
sound. And it should have an effort for those students have difficulties in identifying
letters with the help of the parents.

Base in the table presented, it shows that remediation can help and diminish students
who have difficulties in identifying letters sound.
