1. ABC order- Write your words in
alphabetical order. (A to Z)
2. Reversed words - Write your words in
ABC order-backwards! (Z to A)
3. Rainbow Words – Write your words with
vowels in one color and consonants in another
color.
4. Backwards Words- Write your words
forwards, then backwards. Ex.: mild - dlim
5. Picture words - Draw and color a picture
dictionary of all your list words.
6. Different Font Styles - write your word
list. Each word must be in a different
font/writing style.
7. Triangle or Stair Words - Write your
words adding one letter at a time. The result
will be triangle or stair shaped words. E.g.
c and your words neat.

8. Choo Choo Words - Write your words in
cursive connecting all the words together.
Write each word in a different color.
Must do 2 from this column
9. Silly sentences- Write sentences using words
beginning with the letters from your words.
Example for spelling word trains: Tommy really ate
insects naturally slowly.
10. Ransom words - Write your words by tracing
around 3D letters from the word work station. Set
out neatly and straight in your book. Use the lines
in your book to words straight.
11. Speech Marks - Write your words in sentences
using speech marks. If you word was train e.g.
Tony said, “wow that train was travelling fast!”
12. Syllable Spelling - Write your words by
separating them according to the syllables. You
may use a dictionary. E.g.: Con-tract
13. Ambidextrous Words – Write your words with
your right hand AND again with your left hand.
14. Word Search - Make and complete a word in
your book. Use a ruler and keep your lines straight

15. Dictionary Meanings – Using a dictionary,
locate your list words and record the word and the
meaning.
16. Story words - Write a short story using all of
your words. Underline the spelling words in the
story. Must have a title.
17. Secret Agent Words –Create a code for each
letter of the alphabet. Then, write each word in
code. E.g. A=1; B=2, etc. mild= 13-9-12-4
18. Telephone Words – Write your words in
cursive or print, and then translate your words
into numbers from a telephone keypad. (See
keypad on 2nd page of spelling menu.)
19. Vowel Fraction Spelling – Write each
spelling word and then find the fraction of
vowels. (Example: fraction 3/8)
20. Consonant Fraction Spelling - Write
each spelling word and then find the fraction
of consonants. (Example: fraction 5/8)
21. 3D words - Use refrigerator alphabet
magnets, modeling clay, or Play-Doh to make
your words.

~ Sidewalk Spelling - Using a wet paintbrush write your words outside.

~ Back Rub Spelling - Have someone call out the spelling words to you, and spell them on their back.

~ Scrabble Spelling – Play a game of Scrabble, using your spelling words

~ Cheer your words - Pretend you are a cheerleader and call out the spelling of each of your words!

~ Practice Test - Take a practice test at home. Write any missed word 3x each.

~ Sound Words - Record your words and their spelling. Then listen to it, checking to see that you spelled the words correctly (Friday’s
only)

~ Look-Say-Cover-Write - Copy your word list with paper, look at each word, cover it by folding the paper in half, and write it.
