Database Why this is recommended


1. ABI/Inform This database focuses on industries and business sustainability. Compared to
Business Source Premier, ABI/Inform has wide coverage of industries. It contains
company profiles mostly North American companies.
2. BMI Research BMI Research provides daily views, reports and strategic content, data and
forecasts on various industries. Also includes a small collection of in-house
statistical data (BMI Databases).
3. Business Source This database provides journal articles, magazine articles and case studies. It also
Premier Has industry reports, country reports and risk reports of various countries.
Company profiles also available, although coverage outside of USA is not
comprehensive.
4. Factiva Search for newspaper articles from Straits Times, Business Times, New York Times,
Wall Street Journal, etc. to find the latest news on companies and industries. News
reports also show directions governments are taking in various current issues. Also
has Singapore Government News.
5. Frost and Sullivan This market research database has market research on various technical and
technological industries. Also provides market drivers and restraints, as well as
possible market opportunities. Content primarily are either PDF reports or
presentation slides.
6. Gartner This database is unique in that it gives the Hype Cycle of a technology or subject.
For e.g. The Hype Cycle for Solar Energy shows DC-DC converters at the peak of
inflated expectations whereas photovoltaic generation has reached the slope of
enlightenment.
7. Passport Passport is a market research database which provides statistics, analysis, reports,
surveys and breaking news on consumer product industries, some services, F&B
packaging and ingredients. It also contains data and analysis on consumer
lifestyles, population trends, and socioeconomic analysis for every country.
8. Patsnap Provides global patent data, legal status, litigation and licensing data. It also
provides the overall picture of the industry. You can also create Patent Landscape
using Patsnap.

1. Business Source Premier Contains Company Profiles by Marketline and also SWOT analyses for
major companies globally. Coverage is USA-centric, though.
2. D&B Business Browser Global coverage of company financial data for private and public
companies. Executive information for Asia-Pacific region. Corporate
family tree (subsidiary and parent company statuses)
3. Frost & Sullivan Gives market shares of major players in the industries it covers within
Frost Perspectives reports and Industry Analysis reports. Highlights
major developments by companies.
4. Gartner No company reports, but contains ratings and lists of “cool” vendors in
the IT and tech industries. Also contain analyses of developments by
major players in these industries.
5. Orbis In-depth financial data for private and public companies worldwide,
including annual reports (in the Global Reports module) and 30+ years of
data for listed companies (in Osiris ‘child’ database).
6. Passport Statistics on major brand and company shares in consumer markets.
Analyses of major companies in consumer products.
