Events for the 8thJEEP Culmination

October 3 & 4, 2019


General Mechanics
1. All entries must be bona fide students of DMMA College of Southern Philippines who are currently
enrolled in the JEEP Start 1 Program School Year 2019-2020.
2. Each participating class must submit the COMPLETE LIST OF PARTICIPANTS OF ALL THE
CRAFTS (MONOCRAFT AND GROUP CRAFT) to their Instructors A WEEK BEFORE THE
COMPETITION. Otherwise, 15 points will be deducted to the OVER-ALL score of the team.
3. Entries shall be at the waiting area 5 minutes after they have been requested to do so. Otherwise, they
will be declared disqualified/defaulted.
4. All complaints must be directed to the powerhouse 5 minutes before the announcement of winners.
5. The decision of the board of judges is final and irrevocable unless subject to deduction of points.
6. Violations that are subject to deduction are as follows:
 A minute under or over the time pressure (1-point deduction per minute)
 Number of participants: lack or excess of participants (1 point per participant)
 Other violations: 1-point deduction per violation as referred to the individual mechanics of
every event
7. Proclamation of winners will be based on the ranking of the competition.
8. Final results must be presented to the members of the Board of Judges.
9. In the case of a tie, the decision will be given to the Chairman of the Board of Judges.
10. Mono crafters are not allowed to join more than one mono craft namely:
 Essay Writing
 Slogan Making and Presentation
 Spoken Poetry
 Craft Storytelling
 Craft 1.4.6
 Impromptu Speaking

11. However, the MONOCRAFTER CAN JOIN MORE THAN 1 GROUP if he/she wishes to.
12. A member of a group craft can join more than one group craft namely:
 Reader’s Theater
 Jazz Chant
 Speech Choir
 Speech Theater

Grading Mechanics
14. In terms of the MONO CRAFTS,
a. 20% (Participation) will be taken from attendance during rehearsal. 25%
(Activities and Quizzes) will be taken from attendance on the two-day
event. Per missed log-out or log-in will be 3 points deduction in the 100%.
25% (Requirement) will be taken from the team’s over-all ranking.
b. The grade for the exam of the crafter, who decides not to join any group
craft, will be based on the individual ranking.

75 -5th runner up
15. Those who are tasked to be part of a committee will be under the Instructor’s discretion but the grade
will not be more than 85%.
16. In terms of the group crafts and special events, the following will be imposed with regards to the
grading system for finals (40% of the GWA):

a. The examination grade (30%) would be as follows:
 1st place: 100
 2nd place: 95
 3rd place: 90
 4th place: 85
 5th place: 80
 6th place: 75
 7th place: 70
 8th place: 65
 9th place-so on: 60

b. If a certain group will decide to merge with other classes, the group will have
to use the section of the class that dominates the group. Note: The Instructor
must be informed as soon as possible.
c. Everyone is required to attend the two-day event on October 3 and 4, 2019.
d. 20% (Participation) will be taken from attendance during practice/meet
ups. 25% (Activities and Quizzes) will be taken from attendance on the
two-day event. Per missed log-out or log-in will be 3 points deduction in the
100 %. 25% (Requirement) will be taken from the team’s over-all ranking.
e. However, if some of members of the class join a mono craft and other group
craft, the grades will be under the Instructor’s discretion.

18. Those, who did not participate and join any event, will automatically receive a 0 GRADE in their
PARTICIPATION, REQUIREMENT and EXAM.

SPECIAL EVENTS
Logo Making and Presentation
1. The participants must be bona fide members of the institution and the team they represent.
2. They may use any kind of medium (watercolor, paint, etc.).
3. The work will be drawn/painted on a piece of chipboard which will be provided by the team.
4. Size: Length and Width is 2 ft.

6. On the first day of the culminating, 1 participant from the team will have to explain their
banner for 2 minutes before the audience.
7. A bell will ring once as the contestant has already consumed 1 minute of the allotted time,
this means that he/she has 1 minute remaining to finish the presentation. At the end of 2
minutes, the bell will ring twice. Under time/Overtime of 1 minute is subject to 1-point
deduction.
8. By entering the competition, the participants declare that the logo submitted is their original
work, have not been submitted to any other competition, and does not infringe on any third
party’s existing copyrights.
9. Any complaints that may arise due to similarities, likeness or comparison of the design would
be the accountability of the participant as he/she would be responsible to prove its authenticity.

Song Translation (1 Group per Team)
1. The entry must be an original translation of the bona fide contestants. There may be a lot of
composers, but they must all agree to participate in the competition.
2. Each team shall have one entry with 10-15 members.
3. The translated song must not be commercially released (e.g. YouTube, pre-recorded and
commercially distributed).
4. The translated song must not infringe the copyright of others or any party.
5. The entry will be null and void if the translated song has been proven a form of infringement.
6. The contestants are allowed to use light musical instruments like guitar, tambourine,
harmonica, beat box and the like, electrical equipment is not suggested.
7. Each team may incorporate dance and drama in their presentation.
8. The group shall prepare and provide three copies of their translated song before the
competition begins. Deadline for the submission of the copies is on (September 23, 2019).
Failure to do so will be subject to 1-point deduction.
9. Each entry will be given 4-5 minutes to perform.
10. A deduction of 1 point will be imposed for under time and overtime. Also, 1-point deduction for
under and over number of participants.

 Standard of musical composition and its components: Intro, verse, chorus, etc.

 A good flow (arrangement of words per line of music)

MONO CRAFTS

Essay Writing (1 Representative per Team)
1. The topic of the essay shall be declared by the committee on the day of the competition.
2. The essay shall be written in English in not less than 500 words but not more than 1000 words.
3. The contestants are only given one hour to create their composition (The competition will start at
9:00 am up to 10:00 am on the first day of the culminating activity).
4. The contestants shall be provided with a paper and their corresponding number.
5. No gadgets and reading materials shall be brought inside the contest venue.
6. Only the committee members and the contestants are allowed inside the contest area.
7. The decision of the Board of Judges will be final.
8. All participants must wear their group shirt or any shirt with the same shade of color of the group they
are representing.

Slogan Making and Slogan Presentation (1 Representative per Team)
1. Each participant must be a bona fide member of the institution and the team he/she represents.
2. The participants may use any kind of medium (pastel, oil pastel, crayons, colored pens, charcoal,
watercolor, ball pen). Each contestant must provide his/her own medium.
3. The work will be drawn/painted in an Illustration Board (1/2 size) which will be provided by the
committee before the start of the contest.
4. The participants will start at 9:00 a.m. and must finish their slogans before 12:00 nn.
5. No gadgets shall be brought inside the contest venue.
6. On the same day, each participant will have to explain his/her work for 2-3 minutes before the
audience.
7. A bell will ring once as the contestant has already consumed 2 minutes of the allotted time, this means
that he/she has 1 minute remaining to finish the presentation. At the end of 3 minutes, the bell will
ring twice. Under time/Overtime of 1 minute is subject to 1-point deduction.

Spoken Poetry (1 Representative per Team)
1. The contestant must compose a free-verse or rhyme poem about an interesting topic based on the
theme for this year’s culminating activity: “Creativity Amidst Diversity: An Exposition of
Teamwork for Excellence.”
2. All pieces must be written in English and will not exceed 500 words and this must be memorized by
the participant.
3. Entry is given the freedom to choose what genre he/she will be using as long as it is still relevant to
the theme. However, the spoken poetry shall not, in whole or in part, express or impliedly, subvert the
principles of Democracy nor offend any religion, sect or creed, nor violate neither the standards of
decency nor the laws on libel and oral defamation
4. Delivery is dramatically casual or with sound technology.
5. The narrator is allowed to move around the stage.
6. The representative shall prepare and provide three copies of his/her piece a day before the
competition. Deadline for the submission of the copies is on (September 23, 2019). Failure to
do so will be subject to 1-point deduction.
7. Attire: Casual or Semi-Formal
8. Pressure: 4 minutes
9. A bell will ring once as the contestant has already consumed 3 minutes of the allotted time, this means
that he/she has 1 minute remaining to finish the piece. At the end of 4 minutes, the bell will ring twice.
10. Under time/Overtime of 1 minute is subject to 2 points deduction.
11. Only 1 coach is allowed.

Craft 1.4.6 (1 Representative per Team)


1. Entry is a discourse of four (4) crafts in six (6) minutes.
2. The utilization of technology is allowed.
3. The stream:
-Hosting in one (1) minute
-News casting in thirty (30) seconds, sports call in thirty (30) seconds for a total of one (1)
minute, seated.
-Gospel reflecting in one (1) minute (standing before a microphone).
-Sermonette on a conduct or duty in two (2) minutes (standing before a microphone at the other
side of the stage).
Note: The Bible verse for Gospel Reflecting and Sermonette will be given during Craft
Storytelling event.
4. Shifting pressure is within twenty (20) seconds.
Criteria:
The discourse’s arrived – 50%
Versatility’s impact – 20 %
The discourse’s wares in such communication assignments – 30%

Impromptu Speech (1 Representative per Team)


1. The first participant will then choose his/her topic.
2. The participant will talk about his/her topic right after he/she has read it.
3. A bell will ring once as the contestants have already consumed 2 minutes of the allotted time, this
means that they have 1 minute remaining to finish the speech. At the end of 3 minutes, the bell will
ring twice.
4. 1-point deduction if the speech is shorter than 2 minutes. 1 point will also be deducted for every 30-
second overtime from the maximum of 3-minute timeframe.
5. Participants must speak in English. The participants will be graded in terms of:

GROUP CRAFTS

Reader’s Theater (1 Entry per Team)
1. Entry is composed of 20-40 members.
2. Piece periphrastically (mostly with indirect quotation), delivery is dramatically casual, or with sound
technology.
3. Each team will be given the freedom to choose their piece.
4. Sound effects are allowed.
5. The group shall prepare and provide three copies of their Reader’s Theater piece a day before the
competition. Deadline for the submission of the copies is on (September 23, 2019). Failure to
do so will be subject to 1-point deduction.
6. Pressure: 5-7 minutes
7. A bell will ring once as the contestant has already consumed 6 minutes of the allotted time, this means
that he/she has 1 minute remaining to finish the piece. At the end of 7 minutes, the bell will ring twice.
8. Under time/Overtime of 1 minute is subject to 2 points deduction. Also, 1-point deduction for under
and over number of participants.

Phrasing, Intonation, Pronunciation of Words – 30%
Skills in Portraying the Characters – 30%
Skills in Eliciting Emotions and Expressions – 40%

Jazz Chant (Minimum of 1 Entry and Maximum of 4 Entries per Team)
1. An entry is composed of 20-40 members, including the instrumentalists.
2. Pressure: 3-5 minutes
3. Overtime/under time is subject to deduction of 1 point per 1 minute. Also, 1-point deduction for under
and over number of participants.
4. The group shall prepare and provide three copies of their Jazz Chant piece a day before the
competition. Deadline for the submission of the copies is on (September 23, 2019). Failure to
do so will be subject to 1-point deduction.
5. Sound effects played via cassette tapes, recorded music, etc are not allowed; however, drums,
xylophones, trumpet, clarinet are allowed.
6. Props are allowed. However, the use of flammable, hazardous, and sharp objects are prohibited.

Speech Choir (Minimum of 1 Entry and Maximum of 4 Entries per team)
1. An entry is composed of 20 - 40 members.
2. Pressure: 5-7 minutes
3. Overtime/under time is subject to deduction of 1 point per 1 minute. Also, 1-point deduction for under
and over number of participants.
4. The group shall prepare and provide three copies of their Speech Choir piece a day before the
competition. Deadline for the submission of the copies is on (September 23, 2019). Failure to
do so will be subject to 1-point deduction.
5. Recorded music and sound effects are allowed as long as it is NOT IN SYNC with the delivery of the
piece. For example, gun shots, intro music or exit music.
6. Props are allowed. However, the use of flammable, hazardous, and sharp objects are prohibited.

Speech Theater (1 Entry per Team)
This is a group presentation that incorporates singing, acting and dancing. The presentation allows students to
express themselves creatively in interpreting the piece provided.
1. The participants must be bona fide students of Davao Merchant Marine Academy College of Southern
Philippines.
2. There will be one group per team composed of 20 to 40 members including actors,
musicians/instrumentalists and props men.
3. The piece for speech theatre will be uniform.
4. The presentation must incorporate song and dance.
5. All the participants must be in the venue before the contest proper begins.
6. The presentation shall last for a minimum of 5 minutes to a maximum of 7 minutes. First buzz will
indicate the commencement of the presentation. Second buzz will indicate that the minimum time (5
minutes) has been reached. Third buzz will indicate that the maximum time (7 minutes) has been
reached.
7. A deduction of 1 point will be imposed for under time and overtime. Also, 1-point deduction for under
and over number of participants. Another point shall be deducted if the presentation lacks the
elements: singing, acting and dancing.
8. The participants are allowed to modify the piece given as long as the piece will retain its truest sense.
9. The participants must be in their proper costumes. Indecent attires are not allowed such as flimsy
clothing.
10. The participants are allowed to use props. However, the use of flammable, hazardous, and sharp
objects are prohibited.
11. The participants are allowed to use recorded music and live music. However, lip-syncing is
prohibited.
12. The decision of the judges is final and irrevocable.

Voice quality (Musicality) and choreography - 30%
Creativity (Costumes and Appropriateness) - 20 %

Piece for the Speech Theater: MY FATHER GOES TO COURT BY CARLOS BULOSAN

In the Island of Luzon, there was a Happy family who always enjoying the day every day. The
children were always playing outside with a smile, bathing in a cold river from mountains, full of enjoyment.
Until one day, there was a Sad family who came home in their house. They always locked the windows tightly
that no sunlight enters.

The children were curious on that house because they looked up in the window, pale and thin children
looking to their place. The children were always watching the other children, playing outside with the sun
shines. The rich man always locked the windows and closed all curtains. The rich man’s servants were
cooking special foods that the happy children smelt the aroma. They always stay in the window to smell the
spirit of the food. They sing, play, swim. Sometimes, they laugh out loud then the other neighbor joins them
and laugh at them.

Until the day came that the rich man filed a case to the Father that he always stealing the spirits of his
food and wealth. Though, they end up in the court, with their family. They wait for the jury to judge them. The
father had no attorney but the rich man had. The father always agrees to all question that they always smell the
aroma of their food, but not wealth. Father told the rich man to see his children, and they came, pale and thin.

After that, the father stood up and get some coins to his children and wife and put them in his straw
hat. Then, he walked to the rich man and sounded the coins and then he said to him if he heard the spirit of the
sound, then the rich man agrees and he fell down. The Jury stopped the case and congratulated the father and
he want to hear his children laugh. They laugh out loud but the jury laughed harder.
