Abstract

Title: Ethnobotanical Uses of Serpentina (Andrographis paniculata)

The purpose of this study is to determine the ethnobotanical uses of Serpentina

(Andrographis paniculata). The researchers formulated their own guide questionnaire for

the interview. Maximum of 10 informants were purposively chosen for more precise

information. Semi-structured interview was conducted to evidently determine the

traditional methods of utilizing the herbal plant and their source of knowledge, as well as,

the illnesses being cured by Serpentina (Andrographis paniculata). A photo

documentation of the various processes is also presented in this study as demonstrations

of the various traditional preparations that were gathered in the study. Serpentina

(Andrographis paniculata) exhibits active phytoconstituents such as diterpenoids,

flavonoids, and proteins as the reactors to the certain illnesses. The herbal plant is said to

be a notable treatment as anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic, anti-infection and

antifungal, antibacterial and antimicrobial, antihypertensive, antiproliferative,

antihyperlipidemic, analgesic, antidiabetic, hepato-renal protective, sex hormone and

function modulator, and as an immunostimulant. Serpentina (Andrographis paniculata)

should only be taken in a proper way and right dosage of intake. By using the herbal plant

as a birth terminator are strictly not advised by the informants. In general, the herbaceous

plant Serpentina (Andrographis paniculata) plays a big role as an alternative for the

pharmaceutical medications by traditional utilization of the plant.
