COUNTABLES AND UNCOUNTABLES NOUNS:

COUNTABLE NOUNS HAVE PLURAL AND SINGULAR FORMS:

 I lost track of time and we stayed up very late.  We eat apples for breakfast.

HOW MUCH / HOW MANY

When we want to know the quantity or amount of something, we ask questions starting with: How much
and How many.

HOW MUCH...? + (Quantity)


How much is used with uncountable nouns.

HOW MUCH + UNCOUNTABLE NOUN?

Examples:

● How much time do we have to finish the test?


● How much money do you have?
● How much paper do you need?
● How much milk is in the fridge?

HOW MUCH...? (Price $)


How much can also be used when we want to know the PRICE of something.

HOW MUCH + COUNTABLE NOUN

In this case, we can use HOW MUCH ($) with countable nouns (both singular and plural nouns).

● How much is that painting? $


● How much are those shoes? $
● How much is the dress on display in the window? $
● How much does it cost? $

HOW MANY...? - (Quantity)


How many is used when we want to know the QUANTITY of something.

It is only used with plural countable nouns.

INDICATIONS AND LOCATIONS

THERE IS / THERE ARE

We use there is and there are to say that something exists.

Positive Sentences:
We also use THERE IS with uncountable nouns:
We use THERE IS for singular and THERE ARE for
plural. ● There is milk in the fridge.
● There is some sugar on the table.
Examples: ● There is ice cream on your shirt.
● There is one table in the classroom.
● There are three chairs in the classroom.
● There is a spider in the bath.
● There are many people at the bus stop.

Contractions: Negative Form:

The contraction of there is = there's. The negative is formed by adding “NOT” after IS
or ARE:
● There's a good song on the radio.
● There's only one chocolate left in the box. ● There is not a horse in the field.
● There are not eight products in storage.
You cannot contract there are. ● There is not a tree in the garden.
● There are not two elephants in the zoo.
● There are nine cats on the roof.
● There are only five weeks until my birthday.
There's not = There isn't
There are not = There aren't

When we want to indicate that a zero quantity we use THERE AREN'T ANY.

● There aren't any people at the party.


● There aren't any trees in my street.

We also use this structure with uncountable nouns:

● There isn't any water in the swimming pool.


● There isn't any sugar in my coffee.

Questions:

To form a question, we place is/are in front of there.


Again, we use any with plural questions or those which use uncountable nouns.

We also use there is / are in short answers.


● Is there a coffee machine? - No, there isn't.
● Is there a security guard in the shop? - Yes, there is.
● Are there any polar bears in Antarctica? - No, there aren't.
● Is there any ice-cream in the freezer? - Yes, there is.

Why do more businesses choose Dubai?

LOCATION
Dubai is at the centre of the Middle East and the city is the perfect
place for the markets of Europe, Asia and Africa. That is why there
are over 65 airlines to 100 destinations worldwide from our
international airport.

BUSINESS
Dubai is the perfect location for a regional office and has
conference and exhibitions centres. There are some excellent
services (banks, law firms, advertisement agencies etc.) and hotels
at very good price.

TRANSPORT
Unlike many cosmopolitan cities, there isn´t a problem with
transport in Dubai you can take a taxi or use public transport. There
is a bus every 20 minutes to any place in the city.

PREPOSITIONS OF TIME AND PLACE

1. DESCRIBING TIME:

At, in and on are used to describe different points in time.

AT IN ON
Describes a specific time. Describes a period of time. Describes days and specific
dates.
Let’s meet at 12:15. Let’s meet in four hours. Let’s meet on Thursday

These examples should help demonstrate the differences:
