Maglaqui ABM – 113

• Hanan is the goddess of the morning or dawn. She

is one of the three demigod daughters of Bathalang
Maycapal to a mortal woman. She is the sister of
Mayari (Goddess of the moon), and Tala (Goddess
of stars).

• When the roosters clucks at dawn, it means Hanan

has gone down to earth to bless the start of the
day. The first prayers by the Tagalogs will be
offered to Hanan, her father, and Apolaki, the god
of sun.

• She is especially important during the entrance of a

new age or a new phase in a person’s life. People
offer her bountiful harvests and prayers during the
birth of a child, entering adulthood, death, entrance
of the planting season, beginning of the harvest
season, and the start of a new annual cycle. These
prayers are only conducted at the break of dawn. In
Tagalog animism, the rooster and the dawning sun
was Hanan’s emblem.

“What did you learn from the creation myth Tungkung Langit and Alunsina?“

What I learned from the story is to have trust, because trust is one of the most important thing to
sustain and strengthen relationships. Without trust, relationships will not work well. We can’t
keep on loving someone if we can’t learn how to trust them and if we keep on doubting them,
because if we really love someone, we can trust and support them of what they’re doing.
Jealousy will just cause misunderstandings, arguments or maybe even worse that might destroy
a relationship or cause a break up. Another lesson I learned is that we have to control our
temper or our ourselves sometimes before we regret the decisions we make. It is more important
to stay calm than to let anger take over us. We have to be careful with our words and actions
because we can’t take back time and change what is done or something that we did.
