The Healing Practice of Pagtatawas among Pangasinense Traditional

Healers
Introduction
Filipino Traditional Healers, also known as the albularyo and
magtatawas, became a prominent figure in most rural areas in the
Philippines, specifically the Pangasinan province that was considered as
the birthplace of spiritual healing. From knowing the spiritual wisdom
behind the healing practices, they ensure that sick folks receive the
health care they need that is useful for healing the mind, body and spirit.
In fact, its function has existed regardless of their social status. The
traditional ritual has continuously been practiced at the present time, in
spite the brutal repression under the Spanish colonizers and the
introduction of foreign medical system. (Labastida, 2016; Tan, 2008).
Furthermore, it reflects the Filipinos’ spiritual beliefs or folklore religion,
and its physical outcome that plays a role in the adaptation of their
cultural background. Thus, the study aims to explore further how
traditional healing influences common folks in the Pangasinan province
upon its function at the present time. In this way, other people would
gain more understanding about the Pangasinense traditional healing.
