strict standard of professional ethics amongst its members and to advance the interest of the Engineering profession in Nigeria.

b. To promote, protect, encourage and maintain a high standard of Engineering study and practice and to encourage greater efficiency therein.

c. To represent to the Government in Nigeria the views of the Society on any subject of concern or interest to Engineers in Nigeria and if on
sidered advisable to join with any other bodies in submitting such representation.

5
d. To represent to any other individual or bodies or organization the views of the society on any subject of concern or interest to Engineers in
Nigeria or any appropriate subject on which the views of the society may be invited.

e. To provide a body to which the Government or other official authorityor organization in Nigeria can have recourse for advice, assistance or the
expression of views on any subject of concern or interest to Engineers in Nigeria.

f. To facilitate the development and acquisition of technology by conducting visits to places of Engineering interest, reading technical papers,
olding meetings, conferences, publishing books, journals and periodicals on Engineering matters.

g. To subscribe to or guarantee or otherwise use monies of the society for charitable or benevolent objects or scholarships or bursaries or for any
exhibitions for any public, general or useful objects.

h. To provide for the training and examination of students in Engineering as well as the continuing professional update and development of its
members.
i. To promote and pursue research in Engineering science and practice with particular reference to local conditions.

GENERAL GUIDELINE FOR B1, B2, & B3 PROFESSIONAL INTERVIEW AND EXAMINATION INCLUDING C1 ROUTE
• Regular NSE Professional Examinations and Interviews, including C1 route refer to section of the existing membership guide,
which is held twice in a calendar year, that is, April and September.

• Candidates are expected to have acquired at least four (4) years of professional Engineering practice following graduation
before the date of professional interview/examination. In this connection, it is expected that the overall recorded experience
should be such that at least one year in Engineering design and at least another year in the field (construction or production)
as may be appropriate in the area of speciality, e.g. Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Mining, Agricultural, etc. The candidate should
also show some proficiency in cost engineering in the presentation of Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation (BEME)

• The Candidates are expected to produce two (2) Volumes (I & II) of Technical Report, each not exceeding 100 pages;
otherwise candidates can increase the number of volume to three.

• The volume should comprise of postgraduate Experience Report, while Volume II should comprise Detailed Project Report and
BEME, as may be applicable to the candidates` field of Engineering.

• The Report should follow the general format for Technical Report writing and should not be a mere catalogue of position held
and work done. It should be a discussion of problem encountered in the practice of Engineering and steps taken to surmount
them. This should be clear evidence that the candidate has acquired worthwhile experience.

• The Postgraduate Experience Report must contain minimum of three (3)projects the candidate has carried out or
participated within four or more year of pupillage.

7
• The Report should follow the general format for Technical Report writing; and must include any special problem (s)
encountered and how they were solved and the lessons learnt.

• The Detailed Project Report must be one of the projects enumerated in Postgraduate Experience Reportand should contain
actual report of design/fabrication/installation carried out by the candidate.

• All drawings generated fromdesigns (in respect to the work executed by the candidate within the pupillage period) must be
prepared/drawn with AutoCAD or any other software, in minimum drawing size of A3 sheet.

• Reports must be endorsed by a Registered Engineer who supervised the candidate and should be in the same discipline with
the candidate. Also, the Registered Engineer will state clearly in what capacity the candidate prepared the drawings and
whether or not the project was executed.

• Candidates are to submit three (3) spiral bound sets of the Report and any other contribution to his/her field such as
publications, patent etc where applicable; to his/her Chief Examiner on or before the stipulated date.

• In addition to the Technical Report, candidates would be tested on National & Technical Essays, Computer Proficiency as well
as objective questions in basic engineering.

• National Essay is focused on the General knowledge of Engineering (Engineers in Society), while Technical Essay is focussed on
the candidates` Technical Report submission.

• The Computer proficiency test accesses the candidates` ability on the use of Excel, Words Processing and AutoCAD and
relevant engineering software.

• Objectives are 20 Nos general question drawn from common courses in the first two years of basic Engineering education.

8
• Its recommended that the candidates for C1 Interview should attend the CoPEEE and present evidence of attendance to the
Panel of Examiners.

• Assessment of any candidate will be based purely on the extent and quality of his Engineering experience and ability to express
himself clearly. Other factors for assessment will be derived from the Candidates` Essay in terms of legibility, grammar (English
substance), logic and presentations, etc.

professional experience); database management, e.g. use of MS Access to retrieve all cost and items in BEME
produced above

Candidates need to know the use of web browsers and sending/receiving data over the internet e.g. attaching your
prepared BEME and sending to the email of your chief examiner for assessment.

D National Essay
Demonstrate writing skills in addressing national issues on the role of Engineers in nation building, e.g. Rice for All by
2015 Myth or Reality?
Note that emphasis is laid on the use of tenses, punctuation marks, structure and understanding of the essay topic

18
NOTE:
There is a need to ensure that standards are inculcated in the minds of Candidates.

As such, it is suggested that Candidates must show and explain the standards that they have been using/implementing/enforcing during the course of their
practice. They should be able to share the challenges that they have encountered in their engineering practice and how they overcome same

GRADING CRITERIA
• A fail in Professional experience means outright repeat of the entire interview/examination
• Every Candidate is expected to score 50% as pass mark for each of the modules of NSE Professional examination/interview
• If a Candidate fails not more than 2 modules, he/she is expected to repeat the failed modules only
• Any Candidate who score less than 50% in the entire interview/examination is expected to repeat the entire
