Seige of Baler
Fought from July 1 1898 to June 2, 1899, the
battle is one of the longest sieges in Philippine
History and pitted hundreds of Filipino troops
against a vastly outnumbered 50-man Spanish
detachment. This photo shows the survivors of
the garrison of Baler on their arrival in Barcelona
from under the red and gold.

EDSA (Epifanio de los Santos Avenue) People


Power Revolution
Happened om February 25. 1986. This part of
the Philippine history marks a significant success
from recovering the Filipinos’ freedom from
President Ferdinand Marcos’ hands. These
people who assembles in EDSA ended the
oppressive Marcos regime and restored the
democracy in the country.

The Eruption of Mt. Pinastubo


This happened on June 15, 1991. This photo was
taken by Alberto Garcia and won as the “Greatest
Images of the 20th Century”

Mt. Pinatubo incident was the largest land


volcano eruption that is located along the
boundaries of Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales.

Luzon Earthquake (July 16, 1990)


One of the strongest earthquakes
to ever strike the country occurred
in several areas of Central Luzon
and Cordillera Region.

This 7.8-magnitude tremor resulted


in a total of 1,621 deaths and
serious damage in properties.

Bocaue, Bulacan Pagoda Tragedy 1993


Fatal accident that occurred on July 2
during the Bocaue River Festival. It
involved sinking of the floating pagoda,
the centerpiece of festivities that
drowned more than 200 devotees
Lydia de Vega
Was known as the Asia’s Sprint Queen during the 1980s. It was one of the
important events of the Gintong Alay program in Track and Field. She is
currently working as a trainer and coach in Singapore.

A Filipino Chess player who became the first Asian to qualify for the title
Grandmaster by winning the silver medal in Chess Olympiad field in France.

Also known as “Smokin’ Joe” who was an American professional boxer.
