s many as 24 Pakistani Air Force aircraft took off from three airfields in Pakistan-
occupied Kashmir and flew south towards Sindh, according to new details that have
emerged about the sequence of events on February 26.

On February 26, Pakistani aircraft crossed into the Indian airspace and Wing Commander
Abhinandan Varthaman was subsequently captured by Islamabad.

Information accessed by India Today TV shows that Pakistan had indeed sent F-16s across
the border contrary to what the neighbouring nation has been claiming.

Here is what happened:

1. According to sources, 24 Pakistani Air Force aircraft took off from three airfields in
Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and flew south towards Sindh.

2. They flew south for 30 minutes to deceive the Indian Air Force, before turning back
north.

3. As the 24 jets reached near the LoC, three Pakistani F-16s aircrafts flew towards India,
while the rest went back to their respective airfields.

4. India retaliated by scrambling two MiG-21 aircraft to intercept the Pakistani F-16s.
Accompanying the MiGs were six aircraft that provided cover as well as flank protection --
two more MiG 21s, two Su-30s and two Mirage 2000s.

5. The lead F-16 jet fired an AMRAAM missile after Wind Commander Abhinandan
Varthaman's MiG 21 fired a R-73 missile.

6. Both jets were hit in the process.

7. The F-16 plunged down with two ejections.

8. Wing Commander Abhinandan tried to manouvere his jet towards India but due to
damage to the wing of the aircraft, he had to glide deeper into PoK before ejecting.

9. Abhinandan landed in PoK.

10. His wingman witnessed Abhinandan ejecting but had to turn away after dodging a
radar lock from one of the other F-16s.

Air Vice-Marshal Ravi Kapoor showed parts of the AMRAAM missile that was brought down
in the exchange of fire on Tuesday in the media briefing.

At the joint media address, Air Vice-Marshal Ravi Kapoor said, "One Pakistani F-16 was shot
down by an IAF MiG 21 Bison Aircraft in east of Rajouri. Parts of F-16 have been recovered
inside Indian territory."

India had on Tuesday confirmed that it shot down a F-16 warplane of Pakistan while it lost
a MiG 21 during the fierce engagement between the air forces of the two countries along
the Line of Control (LoC).
