* Negatives like never and not are adverbs. In this sentence, n’t is a contraction of the
word not.

Negatives are usually in the middle of verb phrases just like in this sentence.

Don’t be fooled! They aren’t part of the verb. They are adverbs. It’s a little strange, but
think of them as answering the adverb question To what extent?
