IN ENGLISH II
I- OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. define adjectives;
b. identify the three degrees of comparison of adjectives;
c. use the positive, comparative and superlative degrees of comparison of
regular and irregular adjectives;
d. recognize the three degrees of comparison;
e. give the rules in comparing something.
II- SUBJECT MATTER:
4. MOTIVATION
a. The teacher will ask two students from the class to come in front;
one from the boys and one also from the girls and let the boy to first
describe the girl and after that, let the girl describe the boy also.
Then, request other student to write on the board using the
sentence/s given or uttered by the two students. Let another student
from the class to underline the word/s that describe/s the boy and
the girl.
b. The teacher shows different size of pencils and let them describe the
figure shown in the presentation.
Examples
1. The first pencil is tall.
2. The second pencil is taller than the first one.
3. The third pencil is the tallest among the three.
The teacher will write on the board with the sentences given by the students
and let the class underline the word/s that describe in the sentence.
c. After that, ask them what do you call the words use to describe? And
what you have observed from the sentences?

1. PRESENTATION
1) The teacher will discuss about the words being underlined in the given
sentences and present to them the lesson adjectives.
An adjective is a word used to describe a noun or pronoun or to give it
a more specific meaning.
EXAMPLE:
She is a pretty girl.
Regular Forms
Modifiers of One and Two Syllables. The first of two rules applies
to modifiers of one or two syllables.
Use –er or more to form the comparative degree and –est or
most to form the superlative degree of most one- and two-
syllable modifiers.
Use more or less and most or least to form the comparative
and superlative degrees of all modifiers with three or more
syllables.
EXAMPLES:

5. The teacher asks more examples from the class of positive, comparative
and superlative using the given words shown on the board.
6. The teacher will conduct games. She will group them according to their
favorite fruit. Then she will inform and instruct them about their game which
is called “Battle Ship” game. The group who will win the game will be
rewarded.
GENERALIZATION:
Adjectives with one syllable form their comparative degree by adding –er, for
the superlative degree -est is added.
For adjectives of two or more syllables, use more or less most or least to
make comparison.
IV- EVALUATION
A. Let the students get ½ cross wise, then fill in the blanks with
the correct degree of comparison of adjective.
1. The bag I bought is the (cheap) __________of them all.
2. Snow is (heavy) _________than usual after a rainfall.
3. Rob is (courageous) _________among the boys.
4. Randy is the (old) _______of the three boys.
5. Kate’s hat is (expensive) _____ than Sandra’s hat.
V- ASSIGNMENT
Let the students review the adjectives in their home.
Day 2
I- STRATEGIES/PROCEDURE:
A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES

3. Conduct spelling test for 5 times
Class, I have here several words which I would like you to spell correctly. Kindly get ½
sheet of paper and please listen so you will be able to spell them correctly.
1) Efficient
2) Camaraderie
3) Debut
4) Expensive
5) Obscure
Okay, ball pen’s up! Who got perfect? Okay, to find it out let’s check your paper. Pass your
paper by row.
B. Motivation
The teacher will let them sing an action song.
C. Lesson Proper
1. The teacher decided to vary her activities just to meet the needs of her
students. She will group them according to their interests and to their learning
styles. The teacher will then give an activity for the auditory learners, for
visual, for global and for kinesthetic learners.
2. For the auditory learners they will listen to a certain song and they are going
to fill the missing adjectives of the lyrics.
3. For the visual learners they will have a Match Maker activity. The teacher will
let the students list of adjectives which describe her single classmate. The
adjectives should describe appearance and personality (both good and bad),
and students should also list likes and dislikes for their classmates. Then,
students go around the room asking questions about their classmates’ single
friends. The matchmaker’s goal is to find someone who is similar to her friend
and who thinks would be a good match. When the students think they have
found a match, they will show it to the teacher the two profiles if they really
match.
4. For the kinesthetic learners. The teacher will give them a manila paper and
some old magazine. Students will cut pictures out of the magazine and paste
it to the Manila paper. Then they will try to call out different adjectives that can
best describe to their pictures. The group that has many adjectives will be the
winner.
5. For global learners they will have story writing or a composition (the title of
their composition is given by the teacher). The teacher will give them a blank
paper and let the member write at least five sentences before they will pass it
to the other member. After this they are going to read it aloud in front of their
classmates.
V- Evaluation
Illustrate whether it is positive, comparative or superlative degree.
1. This chair is more comfortable than that one.--comparative degree
2. Andrew wore his good suit to the celebration.--positive degree
3. His was the most concerned voice she had heard.--superlative degree
4. Julian is an obedient boy.--Positive degree
5. Please let me try on the smallest size.--superlative degree
Fill in the blanks with the correct degree of comparison of adjectives. Use the
given adjectives in parenthesis.
VI- SSIGNMENT
Let the students construct sentences using the positive, comparative and
superlative degree of adjectives with the following adjectives:
1. Strange
2. Dull
3. Handsome
4. Shy
5. Blue
