Praxis Test Lesson Plan
EDU 202

Objective: To educate and inform the class about the Praxis Exam. This will include timeline,
cost, location, correct test for their intended subject of instruction, and any other questions they
might have.
Materials/Equipment: Prezi presentation, with use of the ETS website for further links to learn
about the praxis.
Instruction:
● Talk briefly about the praxis exam to see what people know about it.
● What is the praxis?
● Has anyone investigated it?
● Where are you on your journey towards getting your degree?
● State objective: educate the class about the praxis exam so that when it is time for to
take the test it is less intimidating, and daunting because they will know what to expect.

● Activity—Talk to the class and find out what their planned pedagogy subject is
going to be and helping them discover what tests they will need to prepare for in the
future and how to find them on the ETS website.

○ Slide 4—Cost of the Praxis Exam
○ Sub slide 1—Do not waste your money
● Activity—Go to ETS website and show where you can take practice tests to
prepare for the Praxis Core exam.
● Briefly go through the computer-delivered testing demonstration
● Show the class where they can buy practice tests if they wish to.
○ Sub side 2—Cost of specific tests
● Activity—Show the class the cost associated with the tests they are planning on
taking.
○ Slide 5 – Where to take the test
● Activity—show the locations of the testing facilities around las vegas
○ Slide 6 – Question time
● Answer any questions that the class might have, as a class we can figure out
how to answer any questions with the help of google.

Closure: Thank the class for their time and ask if there are any questions that we haven’t
answered already. Make sure everyone understands what the Praxis is and when they’ll be
taking it.

 Explain what the Praxis Exam is
 Talk about who needs to take the test.
 Explain how the exam is set up
 Show nationwide which states take Praxis vs their own tests.

● Explain what the Praxis Core exam is
● Tell about the three different parts of the exam
○ Reading
○ Writing
○ Mathematics
● Tell how the timing of each test works
● Inform the class about when they need to start looking into taking the Praxis Core test
● Tell the class the timeline of taking the test and what comes after it.

● Praxis subject assessment
● Tell about how many tests there are to choose from
○ Activity where we go to the ETS website and go through what
Tests are going to be needed for their intended subject.
● Tell when the pedagogy tests are taken.

● Explain the cost of each test and show the cost difference if they take them separately or
together.

○ Would you rather spend less and take them all at once? Or less
and take them on your own schedule?
● Help the class figure out the most effective and efficient way to study and do
practice tests.
● Also show the cost for each test based on their chosen subject matter.

 Where to take the test.
 Follow the link on the presentation to show where the tests are given so they
have an idea of where they will need to go.

 Ask for questions and as a class research any questions that the class might have.

Closure: Make sure everyone understands what the test is, what the separate parts of
the test are, when to take it, how much it will cost them, where to take it, and how to
prepare for each section of the test.
