Nodal analysis

Systems analysis has been used for many years to analyze the performance of systems
composed of multiple interacting components.

The objective of systems analysis is to combine the various components of the production
system for an individual well to estimate production rates and optimize the components of
the production system.

Systems analysis may be used for many purposes in analyzing and designing producing oil
and gas wells. The approach is suited for evaluating both flowing wells and artificial lift

Applications
The technique provides powerful insight in the design of an initial completion. Even with
limited data, various completion scenarios can be evaluated to yield a qualitative estimate
of expected well behavior. This process is very useful in analyzing current producing wells
by identifying flow restrictions or opportunities to enhance performance.

Typical applications include:

 Estimation of flow rates

 Selection of tubing size

 Selection of flowline size

 Selection of wellhead pressures and surface choke sizing

 Estimation of the effects of reservoir pressure depletion

 Identification of flow restrictions

 Sizing subsurface safety valves

 Evaluating perforation density

 Gravel pack design

 Artificial lift design

 Optimizing injection gas-liquid ratio for gas lift

 Evaluating the effects of lower wellhead pressures or installation of compression

 Evaluating well stimulation treatments

PROCEDURE:

1. Create new file

2. Enter system summary including reservoir model type & fluid description.
3. After entering description click on done you will get other windows activated.
4. Now click on PVT window and fill the required data as given above.
5. Once data entered click on table option in PVT window.
6. As you click on table a new window of table will be opened here you put standard
temperature (60 F) and click on generate button, as you click on generate button you will
get a new window requiring data of temperature & pressure.
7. In this table minimum number of steps in regard of temp: & pressure is 5 & 10
respectively.
8. Put reservoir temperature = 200 F & pressure =3200 psig.
9. After giving value you click on generate option you will get different properties of gas at
different pressure variations. Moreover click on plot button as you can get graph to
understand the changes.
10. In IPR window put all required data.
11. In IPR window click on validate option.
12. After validations of data click on calculate you will get AOF.
13. Now you plot all results you will get IPR curve.
14. After 3rd window you will move to 4th window here you have to enable the equipments
option, secondly provide valid data of casing and tubing in down hole equipments.
Moreover enter the geo thermal gradient data & deviation survey also.
15. After entering data you can get summary of your 4th window .in addition click on 5th
window on VLP option here you have to provide the data of top node pressure depending
on your field data. However this windows options varies with respect to the version of
prosper. moreover click on calculate option you will get your result and plot the occurred
result that will provide you the summary along with your graphs of your well
performance .
16. Graph interpretation will help you that on what pressure where both VLP & IPR curve
meet well will be in optimum flowing condition.
