INTRODUCTION In the name of the Father, and of the (+) Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Consideration of and care for those in need (especially those “at our gate,”
visible to us, of whom we are aware) is an essential component of good GATHERING SONG: Gather Us In (ELW 532)
stewardship. It is in the sharing of wealth that we avoid the snare of wealth.
It is the one whom death could not hold—who comes to us risen from the GREETING
dead—who can free us from the death grip of greed.

PRAYER UPON ENTERING THE PEW

O God, give us grace to set a good example to all among whom we live, to
be just and true in all our dealings, to be strict and conscientious in the
discharge of every duty; pure and temperate in all enjoyment, gracious and
generous and courteous toward all; so that the mind of Jesus Christ may be
formed in us and all may know that we are his disciples; in whose name we
pray.

took the sealed deed of purchase, containing the terms and conditions, and
the open copy; 12and I gave the deed of purchase to Baruch son of Neriah
son of Mahseiah, in the presence of my cousin Hanamel, in the presence of
the witnesses who signed the deed of purchase, and in the presence of all
the Judeans who were sitting in the court of the guard. 13In their presence I
charged Baruch, saying, 14Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel:
Take these deeds, both this sealed deed of purchase and this open deed, and
put them in an earthenware jar, in order that they may last for a long time.

vineyards shall again be bought in this land.

O God, rich in mercy, you look with compassion on this troubled world. Thanks be to God.
Feed us with your grace, and grant us the treasure that comes only from

SECOND READING: 1 TIMOTHY 6:6-19

Timothy is reminded of the confession he made at his baptism and of its
implications for daily life. His priorities will be different from those of
people who merely want to be rich.

Of course, there is great gain in godliness combined with contentment; 7for
we brought nothing into the world, so that we can take nothing out of it;

but if we have food and clothing, we will be content with these. 9But those
who want to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many senseless
and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10For the
love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and in their eagerness to be rich VERSE:
some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with
many pains. You know the generous act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was

tongue; for I am in agony in these flames.’ 25But Abraham said, ‘Child,
remember that during your lifetime you received your good things, and
Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you
are in agony. 26Besides all this, between you and us a great chasm has been
fixed, so that those who might want to pass from here to you cannot do so,
and no one can cross from there to us.’ 27He said, ‘Then, father, I beg you
to send him to my father’s house—28for I have five brothers—that he may
warn them, so that they will not also come into this place of torment.’

Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; they should listen
to them.’ 30He said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if someone goes to them from
the dead, they will repent.’ 31He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses
and the prophets, neither will they be convinced even if someone rises from

APOSTLES’ CREED
As they recite the creed, worshippers are invited to bow beginning with the
words “born of the virgin Mary,” until the words “he descended to the
dead.”
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived
by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.

Sustained and nurtured by our generous God, we gather as one to pray for

CONFESSION OF SIN AND PROCLAMATION OF FORGIVENESS
If we have died with Christ, we will also live with Christ.
Let us confess our sin to the one who is faithful.

“The order for healing is an expression in worship of the church’s ministry
of healing. Each person may come to receive a word of blessing and prayer
for healing and forgiveness, along with laying on of hands and an
anointing. These signs, first given in baptism, tell us again that we are
sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked forever with the cross of Christ, who
is health and salvation for the world.

In its ministry of healing, the church does not replace the gifts of God that
come through the scientific community nor does it promise a cure. Rather
the church offers and celebrates gifts such as these: God’s presence with
strength and comfort in time of suffering, God’s promise of wholeness and
peace and God’s love embodied in the community of faith.”

Brothers and sisters, James writes: “Is any one of you sick? Let him call the
elders of the church to prayer over him and anoint him with oil in the name
of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person
well; the Lord will raise him up.”

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

Holy God,
our Bread of life, our Table, and our Food,
you created a world in which all might be satisfied by your
abundance.
You dined with Abraham and Sarah, promising them life,
and fed your people Israel with manna from heaven.
You sent your Son to eat with sinners
and to become food for the world.
In the night in which he was betrayed,
our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
PREFACE broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks,

Risen Lord, remember us in your kingdom, and teach us to pray:
