EGG BABY EXPERIENCE

– Parent Letter -
Dear Parents,

Congratulations!!!! Your child _______________________________________ is about to become a parent of a

bouncing baby egg! As a part of our Childcare Unit in the College & Career Awareness Class, I am
conducting a lesson designed to demonstrate some of the responsibilities and complexities
involved with child care. (Please note that this curriculum is designed to move the students into a deeper understanding of the
complexities involved with caring for children, as well as having a consideration of the delicate nature that comes along with caring for children.)
I hope that you will be able to support your child in this project, and talk with them at home about these
responsibilities, and emphasize to them what they can learn from this project!

Please recognize that I will need your assistance in order to enforce the following simple
guidelines that I have laid out to your child:

 Students must keep the ‘egg baby’ safely with them for four days around the clock.
 The ‘egg baby’ must come to school every day throughout the project.
 The responsibility of the ‘egg baby’ is that of the teen, not you the grandparent.
 The student must make arrangements for babysitting if there are activities or events that prohibit him/her from
taking their “egg baby” with them.
 The student will be responsible for paying for any and all babysitting done by others at 10¢ per hour and may
not exceed $1.00 during the assigned period.
 The “egg baby” must accompany them to school each day of the project, and the student must check-in to get a
Health Stamp.
 If the ‘egg baby’ is dropped and broken the student is responsible for cleaning up the mess from the
‘accidental death’ and the closest adult is asked to sign the journal as proof that the student has totally
cleaned up the mess and provided a ‘proper burial’ of the remains. If the “egg baby” suffers a death or
kidnapping, additional childcare training will be required for the student to receive full points for the project.
 At the conclusion of the ‘egg baby’ experience, the student will be required to write an essay explaining the
difficulties and joys involved in the childcare experience and the demands placed on the student.
 The Grading Rubric will be used to achieve a final grade with the ‘egg baby’. Most of the points will be
determined from the Essay, so encourage them to complete the essay, even if the ‘egg baby’ has suffered an
accidental death.
 Obviously this will not be 100% realistic to the experience of having a real child, but will give students a chance
to get a taste for taking care of something delicate for an extended period, and keeping it safe. Thank you for
supporting your child.
