Summary:
This report details a summer internship at National Center Of Physics (NCP) in Islamabad.
I studied about 5MV Pelletron Tandem Accelerator Machine, in which I studied about the
vacuum system inside the machine then beam line components after that I studied about
how to form beam and then the techniques used in accelerator i.e. PIXE (Practical Induced
X-Ray Emission), RBS (Rutherford Backscattering), EBS (Non-Rutherford), PIGE, IBIL (Ion
Beam Induced Luminescence).

Introduction:
My internship was based on the study about a machine named as Pelletron Tandem
Accelerator Machine. I learnt a lot about how to use accelerator for Ion Beam Analysis. We
maintain a working environment where levels of ionizing radiation pose minimal
acceptance risk. I learn two types radiations based on their nature and energy they carry.
NON IONIZING Radiation and IONIZING Radiation.
“The radiation which do not produce any chemical or physical change in substances when
pass through it”. They are less harmful biologically”.
Examples:
Visible light ,Radio Waves ,Microwaves ,Sound waves ,LASER ,Ultraviolet Light
“The radiation which produces any chemical or physical change in substances when passes
through it”. These are harmful biologically.
Examples:
Alpha Particles ,Beta Particles ,Gamma Rays ,Neutrons ,X-Rays

“From June to July in worked in National Center of Physics (NCP) as an intern along
with 5 students.” Our supervisor was very cooperative he tried his best to convey the
lecture.
