EXP 1: Description of Lab Equipment
Objectives:
• To understand the course of lab.
• To familiarize with the equipment of lab.
• Understand the working and use of different measuring
meters.
Lab Equipment:
• 3-Phase variable power supply.
• 3-Phase fixed power supply.
• 3-Phase circuit breaker.
• 1-Phase Power meter.
• 3-Phase Transmission line.
• 1-Phase power factor meter.
• 3-Phase RLC load.
3-Phase variable power supply:
This is a variable 3-Phase AC power supply. It’s range is 0-380V. to
use it we first mark its knob at minimum level in anticlockwise, then on
the breaker of the supply and also the motor’s breaker which is for the
protection of motor. Then push the start button and gradually increase
the voltages. The display of power supply is not in working condition.
Three lines are for three phase one is potential earth and one is neutral.

3-Phase fixed power supply:
This supply gives fixed voltage. It has two circuit breakers one for
supply protection and second is for motor protection. It has five knobs
three for three phase live voltages, one for neutral and one potential
earth. There are another three live wires which is for external power
source like wind source.

3-Phase circuit breaker:

This circuit breaker surely use in protection system. Its current rating
is 3A and it has three modes of operation. It use as Relay, as PLC and as
Manual mode.

1-Phase power meter:
This meter is used to measure different parameters like current,
voltages and power. It has function button use to see the values of
different parameters. For power we have knob which give active and
reactive power on its position. It also tells that if current exceed 1A than
it started beep to indicate that current exceed from its range. It has pins I
is for output, O for input and U for neutral and PE is potential earth.

3-Phase Transmission Line:

This line is used to transmit power and electricity from one point to
consumer point. It has scaling that 380KV scale as 380V and 1KA scale
as 1A use normally for 360Km length. In this the transmission line have
resistor and inductor in series and join with each other with the help of
capacitor of 0.5uF, on both starting and ending side.

1-Phase power factor meter:
This device has the same features and description as 1-Phase power
meter but the only difference is that it tells voltage, current and power
factor. It does not tell us the power. It connects on the output side of the
transmission line.

3-Phase Load:
The is of three types: Resistive, Inductive and Capacitive. In star
connection these three loads in RLC circuit are connected in parallel
condition. Now by decreasing the resistive and inductive load and
increasing capacitive load the current is increased. There are three knobs
for three phases in each load case and three regulators which decrease
the value of resistance, inductance and capacitance by moving it in
clockwise direction.
Resistive:

Inductive:

Capacitive:

Whole wired circuit:

Conclusion: To conclude the whole discussion we say the power

system’s equipment is fully earthed and familiarized with the whole
equipment that use in this lab.
