A Dark Brown Dog

Characters: There are two main characters in this story. The child, who is a dynamic character
that starts out very cruelly and later turns nice. And the dog who is a static character that is very
trusting and understanding.
Setting: Along the sidewalk
Conflict: Man vs. Nature because the child
Plot: The plot line for this story starts off with an introduction of how the dog and the child met.
Then it explains the relationship between the child and the dog. Then it has a sad ending.
Theme: You will always find a person in your life that will join you through your ups and
downs.

The Necklace

Characters:
Madame Loisel- She is a poor yet a very beautiful woman, who wants more than she can have.
The fact that she can't have jewels and riches makes her feel extreme sadness. Madame Loisel is
a round and dynamic character. She is dynamic character because at first she was selfish, and
towards the end, she works hard and accept life.
Monsieul Loisel - He is a poor man who is satisfied with his life as it is. All he wants is for his
wife to be happy. Monsieul is a flat and static character.
Madame Forisier
Setting: The story takes place in 1880, France.
Conflict: Madame Loisel had lost her necklace
Plot: Madame Loisel tells Madame Forestier she had lost her necklace ten years ago and how
she went into debt because of Madame Forestier. Forestier is shocked because of what Madame
Loisel told her. Madame Forestier then reveals that she only paid 500 Francs for the necklace
and the necklace that was lost was just a replica and the one that Madame Loisel replaced is the
original.
Theme: You should always be happy with what you have. Material things only give temporary
happiness.
The Gift of the Magi
By: O. Henry
Characters:
Jim Dillingham-The husband of Della Dillingham. He is a hard working and reliable person who
is also good to his wife Della. He is a round and dynamic character.
Della Dillingham- A loving wife who’d do anything to please her husband Jim. She is a round
and dynamic character.
Jim and Della are the protagonist.
Madame Sofronie- She is the owner of hair shop that buys and sells wigs. She is a flat and static
character.
Setting: New York, 1906, December 24th.
Conflict: Della wanted to get Jim a gift for Christmas but she had no money to buy him a gift.
So she cut her hair to get the money to buy him a chain for his watch. And when Jim arrived
home and was met with the usual hug by his loving wife Della who had cut her hair to buy Jim a
chain for his watch. But Jim had sold his watch to buy Della expensive combs she had seen in a
Broadway store and wanted badly. When he recovered from the surprise that Della had cut her
hair he explained she had him going for a bit and that he had gotten her the combs she wanted for
her hair. Though they both had bought gifts for each other that were useless because they had
sold their valued possessions to buy the gifts for each other but now could not use them they still
loved each other.

Plot: The plot of the story, "The Gift of the Magi" is a couples search to buy each other the
perfect Christmas present. Neither one has money to spend on an expensive gift and they don't
know how they are going to barter with anyone or get extra money to buy the present with such
little time left. They realize that they both possess things that they cherish but, they are
also worth a great deal of money to someone else. They could sell them, the pocket watch and
hair, and have the money they need for the gifts. They have a solution to their problem.

Theme: To love is to sacrifice. You cannot love without sacrifice and you cannot sacrifice
without love.
