February 26, 2019 was our first observation in the classroom of First Year section Jose
Rizal. The students were very behave and very hospitable when we came. They offer us seats to
sit with and are very conscious of our presence. Ma’am Fariolen was not around because it was
her Student Teacher teaching that time. She was our friend in our course BSED - English and her
name was Angelica Mica Aligway. Her topic was about the base and s form of the verb. In my
opinion, the topic was a very much up-to-date knowledge in our English the SV agreement 1st
rule. She said that when the subject plural the verb takes normal form of the verb or so. And if
the subject was singular she said, the verb takes the ‘s form’ not plural. That shocked all of us
that observe there. Very unusual to hear considering what we already know.

To sum it up, the experience was great. It was nostalgic thinking how long has it been
since we done this or will this be our last FS cause it’s like we’ve done this many times already.
Hopefully it is, cause in my lousy-ass opinion, doing Field Study is as boring as sitting in a
classroom sitting and listening to things that you already know. It bores you to death. Though
that was not the essence why we were there, still I can’t help but to pay attention to those stuff
but well, it couldn’t be help wouldn’t it? That’s all for today’s Narrative Report. Ciao.

Day 2 of our observation, everything still goes the same. For me who graduated in this
school, I can’t get of the feeling that everything’s changed. The buildings are new and I have
that feeling that I am already old seeing the small students who look like me back in my days.
While we were sitting at the back, we were answering our Episode 1 of our manual. We didn’t
really listen to the topic discussion, but we know it was all about differentiate fantasy from
reality in the materials viewed. The students took piss easy on it at the same time they no
longer pay serious attention as they should be. They make funny examples like one time, on the
fanasy part, a student exampled ‘kanang nagkadayon ang mag uyab ma’am. Fantasy na siya’
(The couples that ended up together together ma’am. That is a Fantasy). There were a lot of
interaction that had happened in which we can no longer remember. We have our own world
at the back, though not totally we delude ourselves in our manual, from time to time, we listen
also.

Overall, what happened was the teacher discussed about fantasy and reality through
giving read text. The fantasies that are in them are so obvious that even grade 1 I’m sure can
live up with the expectations. We on the other hand have our own small world at the back. We
were worried if we can still achieve the exact number of ours in our FS despite the fact that
class in MNCHS ends in second week of March or third.

Day 3 of our observation, this time was particularly new. When we were observing, a
group of teachers too were observing. They are Ma’am Lumandong and one particular teacher
whom we don’t know the name. The other one was from other department not from English
Department in which we are assigned of. They were there to rate Ma’am Fariolen. Ma’am
Fariolen was particularly effortful in her discussion that time. She made use of Powerpoint
presentation and Audio device to enhance the sound of her video presentation. The students
also were very behaving. They were oriented well we guessed. But even though the situation
calls for seriousness, some were still ‘we don’t care’ kind of ass attitude. Particularly those who
seat on the rear that are boys. It was good that Ma’am Fariolene’s classroom management was
at best. Her using of the microphone enhances it. The topic was all about imperatives
sentences. Imperative sentences are sentences that command someone or everyone about
something that they should do. It could be in a kind manner or unkind manner spoken. Though I
did infer that the boys at the rear were not listening, majority of the class was into the lesson.
You can see it in their faces, especially when the video was played, all eyes were locked on the
screen.

Overall I can say today was very very unusual than the common days. We can’t really
focus on doing our manual at the back for the fear that our ruckus will reach to the two
teachers that are just beside us. Also our classmates Dan and Jhanen shared chairs with us in
observing. They said their critic was not around so they stick with us for the moment so that we
all go home together. We learned how a teacher teaches when she is about to be critiqued by a
panel.

Few days left before the class of MNCHS ends, and here we are, barely hanging on a
thread. This is the 4th day of our day of our duty in our FS 4. In the whole MNCHS, it is very
evident how everyone is very busy. Even our critic teacher, she said she hasten her lesson from
time to time because the school year is about to end. Today’s lesson is very easy. It’s about
formulating the 5W and H questions (Who, What, Where, Why, When, How). The topic was very
easy and the student’s took the class discussion easily. The teachers lesson was very
sophisticated in the sense that more often she talks about real life scenarios while at the same
time she doesn’t forgot that she is in a middle of classroom discussion. The Who, What, Where,
Why, When questions are applicable to all question circumstances depending on the
information that you need, said by the teacher. At the back where we are sitting, we are
discussing as to how to appeal to those people whom we need to interview. As it is, they seem
to be avoiding us, not in the sense that they are rejecting us but because they are anxious as to
the terms of our questions which is very much foreign to them. The curriculum, curricularist,
traditional curriculum, progressivism point of view, for them they have forgotten such things.
Though I understand on their part because they want to spare themselves with the
embarrassment of being wrong to young student teachers, still, we were the ones suffering in
their evading of things.

Overall, this day was more hassle than the usual. The pressure on the part of the
interviews of our manual is right down below our noses. We work harder each day in
completing our manual.

Today is the 5th day of our duty and we are already getting accustomed with the
environment we are walking. Students having their own little world, we our own also. We
model ourselves in formal so that we earn that respect that we are visitors, not just someone
who came from another school just to be your friend. Ma’am Fariolen was far from coming and
the students are not yet in order and some of the boys are still playing. I was impressed as how
Sigm Llyamada did the talking on classroom management telling the students that Ma’am
Fariolen is near in coming and they should arrange their chairs so and behave. The students
listened and the girls rebuked the boys. As usual, we listened, we watched and we observed.
Today’s lesson was all about composing a Biography from someone who you know best. It
could be your father, mother, sister, brother, friends, relative, uncle, aunt or anyone you know
best. But first the teacher discussed what is biography, what are the information it should have,
what is a coherence and all thing as such. When the discussion was done, it was a long hour of
writing. Everyone was into his own paper and only few students are talking. And us at the back,
are also hooked into how we should continue or manual. What else are needed to be
answered, who else are needed to be interviewed. We already interviewed few and we are
thankful that these professionals are cooperative to our needs. Especially the teachers working
on the guidance office. They were very nice and sociable people.

Overall, today was a nice and pleasant day. The sun is up and the air is hot, good thing
everyone’s head is cool and their heart is warm. We want to finish our manual and duty hours
as soon as possible.

Today is the 6th day of our duty and everyone is up to the task of hastening their manual
as Mr.Salida is already demanding for it. Ma’am Fariolen is absent due to some obligations she
has to do. Be she left the student with some task texting the classroom secretary of the class
about it. The task was to write an autobiography or a biography of their lives written by
themselves. Also we asked the secretary whom he texted if ma’am could sign our duty hors
despite the fact that she is not around and ma’am Fariolen deemed that she will. At the back
we were fighting over our manual and how to divide the task that requires cooperation among
ourselves, particularly the documentation.

To sum up all that happened on that day, we were at the back doing our own stuffs and
the student of Jose Rizal doing theirs. We didn’t bother to implement strict classroom
management since we can see that their talking is related to the activity they are having. The
class ended with minimal noise. The secretary collected the paper and was given the
responsibility to submit it to ma’am the next time she is around.
