proceed to our next lesson” “None sir.”

3. Motivati on

(Post a Question on the board) Which came first the egg or

the chicken?

Today class we shall have an activity. I will divide you into two
groups and each group shall take sides , one for the EGG and the
second is for the HEN. There will be three person from each
group to represent their group. I’ll give you 3minutes to
collaborate.

Ok let us begin….
(Student groups and collaborate and post the objects)

Which came first ?

Egg (grp.1) Hen (grp.2)
Times up now lets hear it from Group 1

Now lets hear it from Group 1(egg first)

(Group 1 students explains)

Which came first ?

Egg (grp.1) Hen (grp.2)

Now lets hear it from Group 2(hen first)

(Group 2 students explains)

Which came first ?

Egg (grp.1) Hen (grp.2)

Ok class good work,

It seems everybody has their own views regarding which came
first. Some of you have answered egg and some are hens. Just
remember that it is a cycle which means that if there is no hen
there will be no egg and vice versa.

Now we go to lesson proper…

C. Lesson Proper

1. Input

What does figure 1 describes?(call a student)

Figure 1.

(a student answers)

The diagram shows the life cycle of chicken from mating of

hen and rooster to laying egg and as it hatches into achick then
as it grows into a hen or a rooster then begin the cycle again.
Very good!

What does figure 2 describes?(call a student) (a student answers)

Figure 2. A hen does not need a rooster to lay eggs. However, a hen does
need a rooster to fertilize its eggs, otherwise the eggs will not
hatch. If the egg is fertilized, the mother hen or a broody hen
will care for the egg by keeping it warm until it hatches. While
developing, the unhatched chick will eat the yolk in the egg to
get the nutrition it needs to grow and develop.

Very good!

2. Modelling/ Guided practice

(a student answers…)
Can anyone describe the figure below?

breeding laying

rearing incubating

brooding hatching

3. Checking for understanding

What will happen if fertilization of egg does not

happen? If fertilization does not happen, the life cycle of chicken ends
in laying infertile eggs so the cycle stops.
What will happen if incubation of egg does not
happen? If incubation does not happen the cycle also stops because the
egg needs heat to hatch .
What will happen if a mother hen does not brood her
newly hatched chicks? Newly hatch chicks needed heat since chicks need warm
temperature to avoid chilling.
4. Independent practice

WHAT COMES NEXT????? WHAT COMES NEXT?????

Arrange the following pictures by proper sequence. Arrange the following pictures by proper sequence.
breeding laying

rearing incubating

brooding hatching

Very good!

To recap what are the different periods in life cycle of

chicken?(call a student) Sir the different periods in chicken life cycle starts with
breeding-laying-incubation-brooding-growing and the cycle
starts again with breeding.

Very good!

IV. Evaluation

A. Draw and label a chicken life cycle

B. Describe the life cycle of a chicken
