Column Erection

PURPOSE
To minimize hazards and associated risks while carrying out Column
Erection at site.

SCOPE
Applicable to Column Erection activity carried out any where under
execution function.

RESPONSIBILTY:
Site in-charge / Site engineer / Safety officer / Vendor Supervisor /
Workmen

PROCEDURE:

1. Weight details of each column & beam shall be checked from available
BOM.
2. Preferably crane lifting shall be considered for safe working.

Following points shall be ensured before lifting of column with

crane:
Check for :
1. Certificate from authorized agency registered under factory act for
the crane
2. Crane capacity suitable to lifting item
3. Safe boom length
4. Crane chart
5. Working radius
6. Ladders should be provided on column before erecting it.
7. Tools and tackles shall be good condition and valid test certificate.
8. Check the lifting lug position, if provided.
9. 100 % visual checking of all lifting and shifting equipment
10. Tie a tagline to the equipment to guide the equipment to its
location.
11. Only experienced signal / foreman can direction to the crane
operator
12. After column/portal erection, connect it with other column if
erected or with the guy rope with a anchored supports.
13. Life lines as required to be used by workmen while erection,
alignment & welding.
