1 Blow Room:
Blow room is one of the most important part of textile spinning sector. It is consists of a number
of machines which are sued in succession to open and clean the cotton fibre according to the
required amount of degree. In blow room section, normally 40-70% trash is removed.

In processing the material, different types of machines are necessary, namely those suitable for opening,
those for cleaning and those for blending. Different intensities of processing are also required, because the
tufts continually become smaller as they pass from stage to stage. Accordingly, while a coarsely clothed
cleaning assembly is ideal after the bale opener, for example, it is inappropriate at the end of the line.
Therefore, there are no universal machines, and a blow room line is a sequence of different machines
arranged in series and connected by transport ducts. In its own position in the line, each machine gives
optimum performance – at any other position it gives less than its optimum. Also there may be advantages in
different modes of transport, feeding, processing, cleaning and so on from one machine to another along the
line. Finally, the assembly of a blowroom line depends among other things on:

 the type of raw material;

 the characteristics of the raw material;
 waste content;
 dirt content;
 material throughput;
 the number of different origins of the material in a given blend.

2 Blow Room Section:

It is that kinds of section where the supplied compressed bales are opened, cleaned and mixing or
blending for making uniform lap of definite length. The range of blow room cleaning efficiency
is 60-65%. It should be noted here that, blow room is the first section of spinning line for
producing cotton yarn.

3 Basic Operation in Blow Room:

The below operation has don main blow room section of a spinning line:
o Opening,
o Cleaning,
o Mixing or blending,
o Lap forming.

4 Functions of Blow Room

4.1 Opening
 Opening is the first operation within the blow room in which the goal is always a high
degree of openness of material with gentle treatment and a fiber loss as less as possible.
 Opening is the first operation it means, tearing apart the compressed and matted cotton
until it is very much loosened and separated into small tufts with a gentle treatment, and a
fiber loss as small as possible.
 Opening is also related to cleaning as where is opening there is also cleaning.

4.2 Cleaning
 Cotton contains up to 18% trash in most cases. To clean the material it is unavoidable to
remove as much fiber as much waste.
 Therefore it is necessary to measure the amount of the waste removed and its
composition. As it is of high importance also called cleaning efficiency.
 The cleaning efficiency always has to be optimized and not maximized, since the fiber
quality (short fibers, neps) as well as fiber loss is always negatively affected by maximum
trash removal.
