Scenario

The learners are working as junior artists at the PNCA (Pakistan National Council of Arts). The have
been given the task to create a unique art piece on the theme ‘Abstract’ for a local library. The
learners have been given a limited budget to work with.
Purpose of unit

This unit aims to develop learners’ understanding and skills in applying design principles. In this unit,
learners will experience the same constraints and situations designers face. They will be taught to
consider how form relates to function in their own work, and how to evaluate and consider their
choice of materials.
Task one (This provides evidence for unit P1, P2, M1)
P1 The learners will begin the task by demonstrating deep understanding of the ‘Design Development
Cycle’ by discussing the significance of each step.
P2 After gathering sufficient knowledge, learner will begin the process of applying the ‘Design
Development Cycle’ to their own project.
 Arrange a detailed meeting with your client to gather sufficient knowledge of their
requirement and expectations.
 Document all the answers given by the client.
 Create an A3 size digital research board on the given theme.
 Brainstorm and sketch ideas that satisfy the client’s requirements.
 Take at least 10 potential ideas to the next phase and develop samples to test the accuracy
and practical aspects such as durability, availability and cost of ideas.
To develop the art piece, the learners are free to use the following any of the following materials:
 Drawing material (Pencils, erasers, sharpeners, blenders charcoal etc)
 Scholar sheets, chart papers, printing papers, canvas, packing material, plastic sheets fabric
etc
 Paints (Acrylic paints, poster paints, water colors, fabric paints, spray paints etc)
 Traditional or non-traditional material
 Recycled or found material
 Techniques (dripping, blotting, collage, overlay, additive, layering etc)

Task two (This provides evidence for unit P3, P4, M2, D1)
P3 Conduct a presentation to visually communicate and discuss potential ideas with the client and
your peer group.

Evaluate the factors such as theme, budget and requirements of your client and justify the selection
of a particular project and begin the production of your final idea.
Include evidences of the development process in the form of pictures.

Arrange a unique display to aesthetically present your project for a panel of jurors and audience and
document their feedback.

P4 Take strict protective measures to avoid any accidents. Include evidences of the safety
precautions, taken to ensure safe production of the project.
