increasingly coherent Christian worldview that enables them to apply
biblical principles to questions of ethics, compassion, and all other life
situations.
3. Develop the skills and understanding necessary for personal Bible
study, prayer, and devotional life which can sustain and empower
one’s personal life and ministry to others.
4. Demonstrate a basic level of knowledge of the pastor’s role in
encouraging, supporting, and ministering to members of local church
congregations.
The distance learning courses offered in this catalog are offered by Barclay
College through an agreement with Global University of Springfield, Missouri.
Program of Study
The course of study for the Certificate in Bible and Ministry / Certificado en
Biblia y Ministerio is normally undertaken by a cohort of at least five
students. The courses comprising the 15 hour certificate program are
accredited Barclay Home College distance learning courses, now web-
enhanced, and are facilitated by well-qualified full-time or adjunct Barclay
College faculty. The program’s six courses are offered successively in a
cycle, and students may begin the cycle at the start of any course in it.
These courses can satisfy some of the requirements of Barclay College’s on-
campus degree programs, and may transfer to other institutions.
The courses utilize the Home College distance learning printed materials for
content, which are available in the student’s choice of English or Spanish.
Students are required to interact with one another and faculty online in
threaded discussion forums or chat rooms; assignments are submitted online;
examinations are taken online. Online participation is a component in the
calculation of the final course grades.
Note that the language of the web site is English. Students may post in
either English or Spanish, and examinations will be offered in both English
and Spanish.
The time needed for completion of the program course work is approximately
fifteen months (66 weeks); holidays and breaks will extend this timeline. A
cohort of students will take approximately 9 weeks to complete each two
hour course; each three hour course will take approximately 13 weeks. Like
an individual student in a distance learning course, the cohort can determine
its own pace. With the consent of the faculty facilitator, an ambitious cohort,
whose members are mutually and unanimously committed to working
diligently, could shorten these times.
Technical Requirements
2
Students in this certificate program must have access to a computer with
internet capability. A dial-up connection at 56 Kbps will be adequate; high
speed internet is recommended. Course-specific requirements such as
assignment submission format are determined by the faculty facilitator.
Enrollment
Barclay College does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color,
national or ethnic origin, age or physical disability in the administration of
any of its programs or policies.
All prospective students for the Certificate in Bible and Ministry / Certificado
en Biblia y Ministerio program are required to have a high school diploma,
G.E.D., or equivalent. For prospective students educated outside the U.S.,
this requirement is met with the comparable education completion document
awarded in the country in which they attended school. An official transcript
must be requested from the student’s high school and sent directly to Barclay
College. In the event that a transcript is not readily available (e.g. from a
school outside the U.S.), contact the Home College Office regarding alternate
acceptable documentation. The student’s initial enrollment is not complete
until proof of high school completion is on file.
Costs
Course fees are $150.00 per credit hour for each course, which includes
tuition, textbooks, and materials. Thus the cost of a two-hour course is
$300.00, a three-hour course is $450.00, and the total cost of the fifteen-hour
certificate program is $2250.00. There is a diploma fee of $8.00 for the
certificate.
Course fees are due and payable when enrollment forms are submitted.
Course materials will not be ordered or forwarded to the student unless
payment is received.
3
Assignment deadlines and test schedules are specific to each course and the
student is expected to adhere strictly to them. Exceptions or extensions due
to significant extenuating circumstances (e.g., serious illness or death in the
family) may be granted by the Registrar in consultation with the faculty
facilitator upon written petition by the student.
A student withdrawing from any course during the first two weeks will have
no record of the course on his or her transcript. If the student withdraws
after the second week but before the midpoint of the course, the grade of W
(“Withdrew”) is recorded. A withdrawal after the midpoint will be recorded as
WP (“Withdrew—Passing”) or WF (“Withdrew—Failing”).
A student withdrawing from any course during the first two weeks will receive
a refund of 50% of only the tuition portion of the course fees. The costs of
textbooks and materials included in the course fees vary from course to
course and are not refundable. After the second week, no refund is given.

MIN1052 The Work of the Pastor (2 credits)
The Work of the Pastor is a study that focuses on the pastor’s call to and preparation
for Christian ministry. The author examines the relationships that are vital to
successful ministry and reviews the pastor’s primary responsibilities. Based on the
books of 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus, this course enables the students to recognize
and apply biblical principles to different situations they face in a local congregation.
Specific principles treated relate to the selection of church leadership, the discipline
of church members, and guidelines for church worship. Since the study focuses on
the pastor’s call and spiritual life, as well as pastoral duties, it emphasizes both being
and doing. Materials required: The Work of the Pastor by Eleazer E. Javier and a New
International Version of the Bible.
