This guide provides the information and procedures you need for installing
FactoryTalk® Material Manager.
What’s new in this release? New system requirements and new installation instructions for these system
requirements have been added to the FactoryTalk Batch products, including
FactoryTalk eProcedure and FactoryTalk Batch Material Manager.
New system requirements Following are new system requirements for version 12.01:
The Batch Server (Batch, eProcedure, and Material Manager) can now be
placed on any supported operating system.
If you are using a 32-bit computer, use Windows Server 2008 Service
Pack 2 or Windows Server 2012
If you are using a 64-bit computer, use Windows Server 2008 R2 Service
Pack 1 or Windows Server 2012 R2
FactoryTalk Batch product FactoryTalk Batch includes these new features for version 12.01:
enhancements The Batch Server (Batch, eProcedure, and Material Manager) can now
be placed on any supported operating system.
Compatibility of the Batch Suite of products with Internet Explorer 11
when using Windows 8.1 or Windows 2012 operating systems.
Windows 8.1 compatibility with the Batch Suite of products, including
the Batch Server.
System requirements
System Requirements The following are the minimum and recommended system requirements to
successfully install, configure, and run FactoryTalk Batch components. These
requirements assume that no other applications is running on the computer,
unless it is an application that is listed in the Tested third-party software section.
Systems that do not meet the minimum requirements for the version of
software being used are not covered under warranty.
Important: FactoryTalk Batch components version 12.01 are supported in U.S. English only. You must
install the English language version of Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2012, SQL
Server (if used), Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 to ensure proper operation of FactoryTalk
Batch, FactoryTalk eProcedure, or FactoryTalk Batch Material Manager. For more
information about supported operating systems and other Rockwell Software product
version support, refer to the Product Compatibility and Download Center (PCDC) at:
http://www.rockwellautomation.com/global/support/pcdc.page.
Important: The domain name and server name must contain only the alphanumeric characters a
through z, 0 through 9 and the dash (-) and period (.). If the server name contains other
characters, such as an underscore (_), Internet Explorer blocks cookies from a server. If a
server or domain name does contain unsupported characters, the eProcedure Client does
not retain the logged on user's name.
Important: FactoryTalk Batch version 12.01 components do not support touch screen technology.
Hardware and software The following is a list of the hardware and software required to install and use
FactoryTalk Batch. The requirements listed are the minimum tested (and
requirements
therefore supported) requirements.

Other Software FactoryTalk Batch, FactoryTalk Batch Material Manager, and FactoryTalk eProcedure are not
warranted to run with any other third-party software installed on the same PC, unless otherwise
stated in writing by Rockwell Automation. (See Tested third-party software for more
information.)
Configuration requirements The English version of FactoryTalk Batch for version 12.01 can be installed on
any supported operating system and any supported SQL Server for use with the
for Windows Server for Material Manager. SQL Server can reside on the same computer as the Batch
Material Manager Server Server, but this is neither required nor recommended.
All supported operating systems are tested for version 12.01, and therefore
warrantied, by Rockwell Automation.
Install the operating system using the default selections.
For the server operating system, add the Application Server role. For
instructions on how to add the Application Server role, see the Configure
the operating system section.
Add Microsoft Message Queuing Service.
Important: It is highly recommended that you use the default installation directories for all components. The application, test
suite, and associated documentation assume default directories are used. Extensive unit and system testing by
Rockwell Automation ensures that all components function as one solution after the application is configured.
Tested third-party software The following new software has been tested with the current version of
FactoryTalk Batch components.
Microsoft

FactoryTalk Batch FactoryTalk Batch components are completely open, configurable products that
help you define, manage, monitor and control manufacturing at local or remote
component integration sites. A typical FactoryTalk Batch architecture consists of one or more computers
on a single network. The following diagram gives an example of a possible
FactoryTalk Batch network:

Install the FactoryTalk Batch Material Server on a computer with SQL
Server. Do not install the Material Server on the same computer as the
FactoryTalk Batch Server.
Up to ten FactoryTalk Batch Servers can exist in a FactoryTalk Batch
network.
There are setup procedures that must be completed before and after you install the
Material Server. To define the Material Server installation process, the installation
is divided into the following three categories:
Pre-Installation Procedures
Installation

you must add TCP Port 1433 as an exception in the Windows Firewall. (See Configure the
Windows Firewall for more information.)
Set up security There are five preset domain user groups and one domain user account that must
be created prior to installation. These domain accounts are then added to the
appropriate COM+ roles during the installation. (For more information about
security settings, see the section on Security settings in the Material Manager
Administrator’s Guide.)
Identify Material Server When you install the Material Server component, the setup program prompts you
