Cross Country – Report by Mr Johnson
On Thursday 30 children (or 20% of the school!) travelled to Cobham Hall for the annual Cross
Country Tournament. The races were split into boys and girls teams of 5, with 3 age categories;
Years 1 and 2, Years 3 and 4 and Years 5 and 6.

In the very first race Orla came first in the Year 1 and 2 girls race, finishing well clear of 2nd place.
We joked that Orla looked like she could run the race again! It is the 2nd year running Orla has
taken a gold medal from this race! In the Year 3 and 4 boys race Ayrton came 1st (out of 40
runners) with a superb front running performance, taking home a gold medal as well. The largest
races of the day were the Year 5 and 6 races, with 70 competitors. In the girls race Bailey,
Mojoyin and Daisy placed 3rd, 4th & 5th, a great team effort. The boys race saw 3 Bronte
children in the top 10, with David from Year 6 coming 2nd.

At the results section we placed 3rd overall in Years 1 and 2, and then we WON both the Year 3
and 4 competition and the Year 5 and 6 competition …………….making Bronte School the overall
champions.
This is the largest competition of the year, with 170 children taking part and for us to emerge as
winners is an amazing result. Congratulations to every single child who participated, behaviour,
sportsmanship and of course ability was brilliant!

MacMillan Coffee Morning

It was a busy morning in the homework teas room as many parents gathered to support our cakes and coffee
morning to raise funds for MacMillan. The morning was kindly organised by Mrs Murphy and Mrs Stevens-Howe
who hosted all who attended. The children also had an opportunity to purchase cakes which made breaktime
even more anticipated than usual! We are grateful to all our parents who made, bought and sent in cakes for
this special fundraising occasion. Our thanks also to Mrs Smith (Charlie, Reception) who also ran a Coffee
Morning yesterday morning and will donate proceeds to MacMillan.

I am delighted to let you know that through your generosity, Bronte School will donate £324.65 to MacMillan.
Well done and thank you to everyone involved.

Harvest Festival
Next Friday is our Harvest Festival assembly. This is always an uplifting experience, with each class having
prepared a Harvest ‘themed’ poem, recital or song. Please come along – all are welcome.

Additionally, any donations of non-perishable items of food will be greatly received on the day. These items will
be delivered to our local foodbank to support local people who may be in crisis. Our local foodbank is housed at
the Riverside Community Centre.

NSPCC

On Monday we were joined by the NSPCC who

delivered their wonderful 'Speak Out, Stay Safe'
Programme to Years 1 to 6. Their assemblies
were engaging and offered the children ways to
seek support if they feel worried about
anything. Buddy (the cuddly green mascot) was
as popular as ever, and his speech bubble
shape helped the children to understand the
importance of speaking out to trusted adults
(be it family members or teachers in school) or
using the Childline phone number - which we
learnt was even available on Christmas Day!

We were proud to see the children respond so

sensibly to the issues raised during the Year 5
and 6 workshops too. In fact, our guests
commented upon the manners of the children.

The afternoon concluded with a Parent

Workshop about Online Safety and was again
informative in equipping us all to deal with
issues of a digital society.

Bronte Friends

The Bronte Friends AGM was held on

Tuesday at 4.00pm and we are very grateful
to those parents who came along, or sent
their apologies but have offered help at any
forthcoming events.

Over the year Bronte Friends organises a

number of fun and exciting events for both
parents and children, as well as raising
money for particular school projects.

If you were unable to attend, but would like

to find out how to be involved, please speak
to myself or Mrs Mason in the School Office.

Strange happening on a Tuesday morning. Mrs Singh explains……..

A rather strange event took place in the year 4 classroom on Tuesday morning. The children had just
started their English lesson when a loud siren began blaring and the whiteboard flashed images of
security warnings. A sudden message appeared on the screen. Someone or something was asking for
help. The children were asked to find missing letters, that had been lost around the school, to work out a
hidden message.

Well, the children found the letters and worked out the hidden message 'HELP ME I AM LOST!' They also
discovered parts of an image which they put together. The children believe that a character, from a
picture they have been focusing on, may have sent this hidden message. But Why? Well Wednesday
morning shed a little more light. When the children and adults arrived in the class, another message was
found on the English board...
